Re-ordered Galaxy of Terror from Amazon for $19.99 but who knows if even that will ship. I'm way beyond the point of being sick of this nonsense.

So a 4K scan of the original camera negative is not enough of a reason? The transfer from the Umbrella release is so-so at best.

Ps.. yes i know Warner is releasing it on 4k.. but with no extras... also... I read that 4k isnt doing too well... DVD is the highest rank in sales... then bluray.. and 4k at the lowest.. I believe it's under 50 %.... most likely the reason why Samsung wont make anymore 4k players...
You seriously think WB will license one of the their top ten best selling titles ever.

This did look good, but it could use a sound upgrade since for some weird reason this blu-ray only has DVD level Dolby Digital sound when it should have been DTS-HD sound.

Speaking for myself, no, I don't think Warner Bros. will ever license out The Shining. It's way too big a title to license out for a studio that, up until a couple years ago, was known for refusing to license titles to other labels.

It's the same reason why, although I'd be all for it, I think a Deluxe box set for the Nightmare on Elm Street franchise (a la Halloween) is unlikely. The first one, in particular, is almost a given for Warner to put out themselves as a UHD.

With Scream's September announcements presumably imminent (they could get underway next Monday, though I have a feeling they might start later this week), perhaps we might play Scream bingo in terms of what they will announce (long-ish post, so bear with me):

Val Lewton

There's still 4 Lewton Warner titles remaining:

I Walked With A Zombie
The Seventh Victim
The Ghost Ship
Bedlam

Could be that Criterion have Zombie, but if not, surely Scream will release all of these.

Hammer

Given that Kino have said they have no StudioCanal Hammer titles, Scream will almost certainly have the remaining one:

Demons of the Mind

Also, there is their extensive deal with Hammer, which will probably include the following sci-fi/horror/fantasy titles (some obviously more likely than others):

The Mummy's Shroud
Rasputin, the Mad Monk
X The Unknown
The Lost Continent
Four Sided Triangle
Slave Girls (AKA Prehistoric Women)
The Viking Queen

On top of this, Scream are rumoured to have a couple of Warner Hammer titles, specifically Curse of Frankenstein and Crescendo, but could have more of the unreleased ones (remains to be seen if they'd ever consider CE double-dips for some of the previously released Warner Hammer titles):

Curse of Frankenstein
Crescendo
Hysteria
She
Moon Two Zero

Finally, there are a few titles they could have from other deals, though Mill Creek seem to have cornered the Sony Hammer market:

The Nanny (Fox)
Shadow of the Cat (Universal)
The Damned (Sony)
The Stranglers of Bombay (Sony)
The Terror of the Tongs (Sony)

Universal 50s Sci-Fi/Horror (Single Releases)

By my count there are only 5 such titles left which will likely be exempt from the ongoing Universal Classic Horror volumes (at least the two sci-fi titles should be):

Curucu, Beast of the Amazon
Curse of the Undead
The Thing That Couldn't Die
Cult of the Cobra
The Incredible Shrinking Man

The longer Incredible Shrinking Man goes unreleased, the more I suspect it's with Criterion.

Universal Horror Collection (Box Sets)

Per Kino, it appears that most of Universal's 30s/40s horror (which includes some Paramount titles) has ended up with another label. While Mill Creek might be a candidate, one expects that Scream have several more Universal Horror Collections lined up. Recently the Kino Insider revealed that the The Inner Sanctum Mysteries are with a label, so perhaps that will turn out to be Scream. Possibilities for future sets include:

[Show spoiler]Murder by the Clock
Secret of the Blue Room
The Mystery of Edwin Drood
The Missing Guest
Night Key
The Cat and the Canary
The Monster and the Girl
Night Monster
The Mystery of Marie Roget
The Climax
Flesh and Fantasy
The Inner Sanctum Mysteries
Captive Wild Woman
Jungle Woman
Jungle Captive
House of Horrors
The Cat Creeps
The Spider Woman Strikes Back
The Black Castle

Roger Corman Steelbook Double-Dips

At best, we should expect three more of these:

Death Race 2000
Battle Beyond the Stars
Starcrash

Double-Dips

It seems that Scream have Freaked and The Terminator coming, and there are rumours that another release of Big Trouble in Little China is in the works, which might turn out to be from Scream (if not a 4K release from Fox). Who knows what else during the peak months where Scream put out their heavy hitters? Certainly, there's still quite a few possibilities from Sony, Warner, Fox and Universal which I won't list here. Might also be that we see a few more double-dip steelbooks (with new restorations) of titles previously released by Scream, like Dog Soldiers.

Other

So everything that doesn't fit into the above categories (which for some will represent the most interesting prospects). We know Scream have Fear No Evil, and Kino have confirmed that Road Games is with another label, which can only really be Scream. And could we finally see that Hard to Die/Sorority House Massacre II double feature materialize? In theory, Scream have plenty of studio partners or catalogues - MGM, Universal, Warner Bros, Sony, StudioCanal, Fox, Corman, ITV - they could draw upon, so hopefully they have some exciting stuff planned (some independently-owned surprises would be great too).

I'll make a guess on the Hammer title (s) for September:

I'm thinking The Devil Rides Out, it's one of the best Hammer titles they have yet to release. And if they do two, I'll guess Dr. Jekyll and Sister Hyde, it is one of the most expensive OOP Hammer titles in Region 1 and definitely needs a re-release.

I'm guessing they will do Scars of Dracula and The Curse of Frankenstein for October if they have them, they are the two big Hammer franchise films people are waiting on. Scars will complete the Hammer Draculas on Blu-ray in the US. We'll still need Frankenstein and the Monster from Hell to complete the Frankestein series though.

When it became clear that Shout and WB had a deal in place, I figured it was inevitable that Wes Craven's "Deadly Friend" would get released as part of that. Not sure what the hold-up is, but unless I missed news in the interim (quite possible), that still seems like a no-brainer to me.

I imagine we all thought the same, which is precisely what leads me to think that it wasn't available to them. Perhaps Warner plan to release it themselves, hopefully later this year. That said, things can change, so maybe if Scream work towards a second deal (presuming the first is almost exhausted), Warner might be more willing to licence out titles that were previously off-limits to Scream, providing they were happy with how things went first time round.

Maybe Deadly Friend is still coming, but it appears Shout was mainly interested in the older titles (40's-60's) and Hammer. Maybe these were the titles Shout were after all along. I'm still holding out hope that we'll also see Alone In the Dark, He Knows You're Alone, The Hand, and an uncut edition of Killer Party.

Do you mean in general or in terms of what they want from Warner? To date the Warner deal has yielded about 35 titles, and of those, only 4 are pre-1970, and none of those are Hammer. The breakdown:

40s - 4
50s - 0
60s - 0
70s - 8
80s - 9
90s - 10
00s - 4

The numbers might change a little if they have a few more Lewton and Hammer titles, but still, it will remain heavily weighted towards the 70s onwards. I've no doubt they tried to get those titles you mentioned, and more besides. But Warner seem odd about what they choose to keep and what they licence out. Who knows what they have in store for the Archive line later in the year? And as I said before, a second deal might pave the way for some of the more desirable titles.

Definitely think 13 Ghosts (2001) will get a collectors edition in the next wave of announcements.

Would also be keen to see some surprise titles of unreleased content. Mainly Club Dread, Cry Wolf & Turistas. I'd much prefer a change of pace from the Hammer titles. Nothing against them, we've just had a lot of that recently. Big titles like Terminator don't really do much for me because my guess is we'll see a 4K releases one day. Don't need multiple copies of the same thing unless there's a real good reason for it.

I'm not expecting The Terminator in 4K simply because it's from MGM. Kino is the only boutique label that has released an MGM title in UHD (Hannibal) and they're not happy with sales. If Shout does indeed have Terminator they might want to consider releasing it on UHD since it's guaranteed to do gangbusters but the studio hasn't been clear on their plans for the format.

Great research, and great speculation, as always. If they continue to push Hammer, the old Universal sci-fi films and horror films, and Corman re-release steelbooks, I'm going to have a lot of extra money on hand this summer. Glad for those who actually want this stuff, but these films just aren't for me. I'm interested in Big Trouble in Little China just because it's a favorite, and MAYBE Road Games if it contains a superior transfer (already own the Umbrella). Hard to Die/Sorority House Massacre II seems to have dissolved, but I'd be glad to see that one pop back up. I don't know; not looking too exciting from my eyes...

You aren't kidding. I began writing up a similar response earlier but ended up scrapping it but my thoughts mirrored your own more or less with a bit of reminiscing regarding how excited the Warner deal seemed one year ago and how now things just don't look all that promising currently. Big name franchises and titles were on everyone's mind and now we've all essentially braced for pre 1970's titles and nothing more moving forward despite the evidence apparently pointing otherwise.
