After seeing the preview for 'Terminator 4' I have to go with that.
It looked VERY average.

We shall see.

Wolverine - modest hit, enough for them to move ahead on the next X-men spin-off
Star Trek - great success
Harry Potter - at least more then the last movie, I think this book has a bigger following
Transformers 2 - ridiculously big success and good movie =)
Terminator 4 - as good as the early movies and megabucks
G.I. Joe - could make money... I mean Jumper did
Angels and Demons - modest hit

I'd bet Pixar's UP will be a letdown. Just speculation of course.

Inevitably, there will be some that will let us down.

Which one/ones do you think it will be?

I think the greatest 09 summer movie that has the potential to plow into the ground like a plane with no engines is. . . Wolverine.

From the reshoots, to Fox's messing around - I think this has a good chance of being on par with X-Men 3. (Sorry for any fans of that movie - I thought it was travesty).

Every trailer seems like the movie "wants" to be epic, but won't come close.

The thing that scares me most is that they are showcases some big effects scenes and they mostly look horrible. The part with some guy swinging on the ceiling looks like bad CG. Even the part with him hanging onto the helicopter looks pretty bad.

Hope I'm wrong - but I don't have a good feeling.

So, anyone else have a bad feeling about a movie this summer, even as they have high hopes?

Which one is going to be the let down?
  • Wolverine
  • Star Trek
  • Harry Potter
  • Transformers 2
  • Terminator 4
  • G.I. Joe
  • Angels and Demons

Feel free to list others coming out this summer that I didn't put on the list.
I'd say Harry Potter, Terminator 4 (if it's PG-13), and Angels and Demons

Maybe. I feel Pixar is becoming pretentious these days. We've seen so little about Up though... all we know is it has ridiculously good colour.

Wolverine - will only please fans and mindless movie-goers..also the film is only 1 hour and 30 mins..there will be some major panning of this film.

T4 - Looked pretty good from the trailers..it looks like they know what they are doing and working hard...(i think we all know how dedicated Bale is..lol)

Transformers 2 - will satisfy normal movie-goers..Its a pop corn flick..I find it ridiculous how people want transforms to be something of high art. Just look at the source material...Its cars that become big ass giant robots and fight.. It doesn't have to be high art..its high entertainment. People who are not a fan, like my self will find it fun for a summer flick. It wont be a flop.

Public Enemies - Looks decent..But people will see it anyway just because of Bale and Depp.

G.I.Joe - looks terrible, its like the studio doesnt even care about the movie. They have no faith. And it looks BEYOND cheesy.

Dragonball : It will never work as a live acion film. It will suck

The thread is more about which one you feel will personally be a let down (not live up to expectations) - not sales projections.

In general, I think they'll all do just fine financially, although Wolverine needs really good word of mouth after the initial opening.

I am still pissed about X3 - but mostly sad.

Hey, remember how awesome Angel was in that movie. . . . yeah, me neither.

Ok fine, maybe that's not fair. At least the Sentinel's were awesome. . .

I could go on for quite a long time.

Anyway, I think Wolverine is going for epic - but won't make it. The effects look really lazy. Some big explosions sure - but that guy swinging from the ceiling looks like horrid CG (really bad for a tentpole summer movie), and Wolvie hanging on the helicopter looks pretty bad.

And, I expect Wolverine fighting Sabertoothe will get a bit boring after a while. The fight between Wolverine and Lady Death Strike in X2 was just the right length and intensity - I expect this movie's major fight to be two people throwing each other through walls for 10 minutes.

I hope to be proven completely wrong. I really do.

G.I Joe has the biggest chance of being a bomb. The tv spot looked terrible (CG was pretty rough) and the cast just has me worried.

Wolverine looks good in the trailer but re-shoots rarely mean anything good so I'm kinda on the fence about it. I think it will be okay but nothing huge.

Other than those two movies, I think it will be a very successful summer season. I know myself, I will be seeing a lot of movies over the course of May till August.

Yeah you have a point. Some were doing projections though so... anyways this is how I feel about the movies.

Definitely good - Transformers 2, Terminator 4, Harry Potter 6
Optimistic about - Wolverine, Star Trek
50/50 - G.I. Joe, Angels & Demons

Honestly, I'm so wrapped up in current and old stuff that if they suck I won't be devastated.

OOh, quite difficult. Especially as I aaproach this question from a slightly different angle.

For example, based on past experience I tend to have lower expectations. Transformers is a film I am not expecting too much of, except that it will have some good special effects.

Star Trek is a real unknown for me as I have always enjoyed past films, but this could be good or bad, will not know until the final credits roll and I turn to my mate for the post film de-brief.

I guess what I am saying is to be a let down, means you have high expectations. Here is my let down Terminator 4 - I suspect I may be saying, why the hell did they not just stop with the last one !!
