Another problem IMO of the revised Emperor change is McDiarmid delivers his lines like he’s literally reading off cue cards ( judging from the angle of his face he probably was). The revised dialogue doesn’t help either. Implying Vader didn’t know Luke was his son somewhat disrupts the whole purpose of why he was looking for him.

As for the changes, I can't stand the change of sinister music ( "you will be" ) on Yoda and the loss of "Bring my shuttle" in Empire. Having grown up with the original Mono Beru, having to hear the frankly terrible, cold Stereo voice over actress is also jarring.
To my knowledge the mono mix for Star Wars was never available on video so how was this so?????

Yes I know that but he said ‘grown up’. What are the odds he grew up with a fan preservation??

Not only do you lose the fantastic delivery of the original line in favor of some unnecessary extra rubbish, but the edit completely ruins John Williams excellent score. In the original cut, the tension created during this scene is simply brilliant and the inserted dialogue, shots and music cues completely kill it.

I grew up listening to the "Story of Star Wars" record... yes, record... which contained actual dialogue and sound effects from the movie, all taken from the mono mix. So initially, some of the "stereo mix" dialogue and sound effects were jarring to me, too... but since the last time I listened to that record was probably 1983, and since I've listened to various other theatrical and hom video versions a million times since then... I'm pretty well adjusted to all the changes, lol. Just a shot-in-the-dark at justifying someone else's post.

Not far from the truth. I finally realized life is way too short and goshdarnit, I wanted to see Episodes IV - VI again. (It had been almost 15 years.) I'm glad I let it go. I feel much better now.

sorry if this has been said before... but is there a REAL reason the theatrical cuts (untouched original showings) have never been released ? i mean i have the ones included in the special editions that came on dvd (apparently ported from laserdisc ?). but what is the real reason GL won't put them out....

i know i know, he has said he wasn't happy with them as they were an unfinished vision. but i don't get why he doesn't just put them out. and now disney has their hands in the cookie jar which we all know the way GL and D get along so i'm pretty sure that ultimately seals the fate of ever seeing them released.

But you see, he's had 20 years worth of bacta thank treatments. Eyebrows can easily grow back. As unnecessary as the Hayden force ghost.

Also as mentioned the inclusion of "how can this be" and "search your feelings" additions are unnecessary. I think overall the original theatrical Emperor is best, despite its faults.

It is a common misconception that they are laserdisc ports but they are not. The masters used for those DVDs are the same masters used for the 1993 laserdiscs. But they are not LD to DVD ports.

Fair enough and for the record I wasn’t being critical of anything haha

All I can provide is a conspiracy theory I heard. Lucas is divorced. She received a portion of the money made by the OT because they were together when he made them. BUT...she doesn't get any money from them now because they have all been changed. If he releases the original versions, she'll get a cut of the profits, and he doesn't want that.

Is this accurate? Probably not, but it's a fun theory.

The rest of the hair on his head didn't grow back, so why should his eyebrows?

A lot of people don't know the difference, or they just use the terms "laserdisc transfer" and "laserdisc master" interchangeably without realizing they mean different things.

Still though, Those DVDs are just barely better than a laserdisc transfer. That video master was never really that great to begin with.

The Harmy releases have the 1993 laserdisc audio. Not mono but best way to listen to Star Wars, IMO. Modern enough to sound better, but not modern enough to where it's completely ruined.

Eyebrows grow back even for bald people who lose their hair.
