It's a possible reason, but I don't that's the main reason the deal didn't work out.

Like a lot of others, my dream is that the deal would be with Warners, but I would never take that bet. Unfortunately, I have little confidence that ATT will keep the Warner Archive going if their new streaming channel proves successful. I don’t believe the DVD end of the Archive has had any new to disc titles released since last September and that doesn’t inspire a lot of optimism with regards to ATT and physical media. In addition, the Warner Archive’s Blu department is a bit of a carnival game as to what gets chosen for release, so I’ve more or less given up on a lot of my favorites ever coming out.

A nice ripe Warner’s licensing deal with KINO would sure allay most of my fears, but it doesn’t seem likely. In any case, ANY KINO deal with ANY studio always a windfall!

I imagine that Kino, not being a major studio label, gets a better licensing deal on music clearances. I recall back in the day that Disney wouldn't release the TV show Moonlighting on DVD because the cost of the music clearances was prohibitive. But some years later, they licensed the show to Lionsgate, who was able to put out all five seasons with no music substitutions.

The same was true more recently with China Beach. Music clearances would've cost Warner Home Video a mint, but Time-Life was able to do it, with minimal substitutions.

(Also, Kino is probably in the right in mentioning that Savile is in the film since it would probably be even more awkward to not even mention it. No reason to get angry as he's dead and burning in hell anyways)
On the other hand, it might help keep some people from getting pissed off about not knowing before they bought it.

Warner, would be great, but that's a tough nut to crack. Only Scream and Criterion have been the only ones to deal with them.

I truly hope WAC doesn't go anywhere as there are so many titles that need Blu-rays from Warner. Either way, yes, it would be amazing if Kino were to somehow get a deal with them.

Also, still curious as to what the second deal will be. Most think it's MGM, but I'm hoping it could be Sony and maybe we can finally get Bugsy and Crazy Joe on Blu-ray.
I'm pretty certain the small deal is with MGM, for a couple of reasons (the Insider didn't suggest a Sony deal was imminent when people were inquiring about the deal, and I think Sony are more likely to put out potential 4K UHD titles themselves).

However, I do have a sense that a Sony deal might be on the table. For one thing, the Insider has been fairly hopeful whenever the question has come up. Also, a couple of recent comments perhaps lend weight to the idea. When I recently asked if there would be more noir sets, the Insider said this:

I found that part interesting, because if you narrow it down, I don't see too many options other than Sony:

- Obviously it isn't Universal
- It's highly unlikely to be WB
- Disney don't fit the bill
- Fox do, but then it sounds like any potential deal with Disney would be some time away
- I'm quite sure StudioCanal don't offer much, and even then they would be of the British variety
- There might be some United Artists ones, but if we're presuming this small 25-ish title deal is with MGM, it probably suggests Kino aren't all that interested in their noir titles
- There could be some Paramount ones (even if most of their 40s noir is with Universal), but then it doesn't look like a Paramount deal is close

But there are still quite a few Columbia titles, even after those recent sets. They'd likely have HD masters ready to go too.

Also - I'm probably looking into this one too much - when people were asking about Delon and Belmondo titles, the Insider said there 'may be one or two Belmondo titles next year' (being 2021). While it's quite possible these are StudioCanal (or even Gaumont) titles, it's worth noting that Sony have The Burglars and Fear Over the City. You might expect the Insider to offer the same kind of hope about Delon if the proposed deal is with StudioCanal.

As I said, all rather baseless speculation but for my sins I'm an eternal optimist...

As an avid KINO aficionado, I think I already have everything I want that’s currently on the WHILE SUPPLIES LAST sale list. Yet...I’m thinking that DRUM looks ridiculously magnificent. I was a teenager when I saw MANDINGO during its first run theatrical release and deemed it the worst movie I had ever seen. I gave it a second chance some 30 years later and this time thought it was brilliant. I know DRUM is a poor relation, but I think I could have a lot of fun with it. Thoughts?

Hopefully none of those staff work in the burns unit, or that post would backfire spectacularly.

Any chance for more Carolco Pictures titles? Besides Iron Eagle III & Narrow Margin.

These currently need a Blu-Ray release:

Extreme Prejudice (1987)
Iron Eagle II (1988)
L.A. Story (1991)
Light Sleeper (1991/92)

I loved Mandingo but disliked Drum. And I'm a big Warren Oates fan.

I actually enjoyed "Drum" quite a bit, although it's definitely inferior to "Mandingo". I thought John Colicos, in particular, is just unbelievably sleazy and hilarious in it. Oates also has some lines that have to be heard to be believed.

Good looking features for Spaced Invaders. Now the waiting continues for My Science Project.

I bought it a while back. It's a good but not great film. I enjoyed it more than Zardoz which I desperately wanted to like. Boorman's made some great films like Excalibur, Hell In The Pacific, The Emerald Forest and Deliverance but the less I say about Zardoz, the better. I did think about using the following Sean Connery picture as my avatar though.

and that's another way of commenting on ZARDOZ.

Connery is my favorite actor and I've seen ZARDOZ many times. Depending on my mood the best I can say is that it's an interesting misfire.
