If you see Jason in Times Square, dont run, TAKE A CAB.
I agree. With the title of the movie, I was VERY disappointed. Hardly any of the film takes place in New York City.. but the scenes there were very entertaining. How about those fake slums, huh? I didn't know that only one building seperated drug addicts and homeless people from Times Square!

If more of the film had taken placein NYC, I would've liked it. Also.. is Jason a really good swimmer or what? And the way he acted in NYC - the real Jason would've been killing everyone in reaching distance.

I remember reading that the initial script had Jason in Manhattan a large percentage of the movie; however, due to Paramount's budgeting restraints, they had to confine the NYC shooting to only a small portion of the movie. It probably would have been better if Paramount had shelled out a little more money for the budget. I know Paramount has been embarassed of the series in the past, but the fact of the matter is, this series has brought them a tremdendous profit--films made on the cheap that usually deliver solid BO numbers until the later sequels hit.

Were you like the only person in the theater the night it opened? I had heard it did really well the first week (No.1) and not to bad the second week(No.6.)

I love how people tear this movie to shreds, but forget the other movies are not exactly artistic masterpieces as well.

I loved it. I thought it was fun as hell and I like Jason running better. Definately a day 1 purchase for me when its released on blu.

So, were they originally planning to remake part 8 Jason Takes Manhattan?

Trents murder was pretty "Jason style". Getting a machete in the back and then impaled on a tow truck is pretty cool. I cant wait to see it on blu.

No sale.

As much as I'd like to have another horror Bluray under my belt, I can't justify paying for this insult to the fans.

To be honest, I don't take the films TOO seriously. They're scary. They're gory. They make you root for the hulking villain/heroic virgin. I love them. I don't even mind the changes they made to Jason. I dig the hatchet-sword he was carrying. His burlap sack was a nice throwback to Part 2, and the 5 minute introduction of his mother's beheading was well done. Unfortunately, the 2009 fell off the mark in a lot of ways and some scenes made me question what the hell they were even thinking. Here's what I was thinking, watching the remake...

Here's a rundown of the mediocrity (SPOILERS, if you care to read it):

- Two overpaid Abercrombie models, a black dude, 2 blonde chicks, and an asian dude (sounds like a joke) go to a spoiled *******'s house for a weekend of smoking and drinking. Basic horror movie set-up... no problem.

- One chick immediately runs off to assist a complete stranger in finding his sister. Random, but ok.

- Despite being in close proximity to Camp Crystal Lake, this house has never been burglarized, vandalized, or ransacked by Jason. Camp Crystal Lake has also NEVER been investigated by the police, despite the numerous missing person reports filed over the years...

- Jason also has a series of underground tunnels he dug during his Civil War days as a Union soldier. REALLY random, but ok.

- Jason finds hockey mask after his sack is torn (tee hee, torn sack). Not all hope is lost...

60 MINUTES LATER (SPOILERS, AGAIN)

- We find out that one of the chicks who's seemingly killed in the first 20 minutes has been captive and healthy for weeks in Jason's Underground Railroad, the asian guy mistakes Jason for a real hockey player in a light-hearted LOL of a scene, and the black dude starts beating off to a Coldwater Creek catalog, because he's high...

SERIOUSLY.

I just wanted some good old-fashioned horror, but what I got was American Pie with a few deaths and a lame ending.

During the script review someone must've said, "You know what this movie needs... a dude jacking it to an outdoorsman catalog! It'll be a riot!"

I just wanted some good old-fashioned horror, but what I got was American Pie with a few deaths and a lame ending.
lol, your ONLY problem in that entire post was a three second scene.

I thought it was decent, but not great. The main jock a-hole was great at being just that...a major a-hole. It definitely had some fun laugh out load moments, but I wish it was a bit scarier and more inventive with it's kills. I'll probably buy it though to see the extended cut and the extras.

That was just one example... the mediocrity went beyond 3 seconds. Trust me.

I am unable to select which version to watch.
When I put the disc in, the movie auto starts so there is no menu to choose from.
The pop-up menu does not allow you to choose Theatrical or Killer cut so I am dumbfounded here on how to select to watch the different versions.

Anyone seeing this or have any hints?

THANKS !

This is way old but I admit I dig this movie.

I have 2 quick observations/questions/rants...

*I got this in the 5 for 20 BBV deal back in the summer*

1) I hate the menu, for some reason it only lets you pop it up until the movie is over. Plus it automatically plays the killer cut and as far as I know the only theatrical version is with commentary (not a problem if that's the case, I prefer the killer cut)

2) Maybe I got a defective disc, hell it was a rental copy. No scratches or anything and when I originally watched this for the first time after purchasing it, I noticed the issue but I forgot and its long past since I can return it. I wouldn't want to anyways, now, because it only happens in 1 scene. (and it was 4 bucks used) Enough of my bambling...

from 23:19 to the most visible at 23:30...on the right side of the frame, I have a faint line that looks as if for whatever reason the film on that scene on that side was uneven a bit. Like something happened in the transfer or something. Most noticable at 23:30...does anyone see it?
