Current disk releases can only be decoded by current and future players internally; while external decoding is only possible with future releases.
What is the truth on this stuff?
I know I'm not an insider, but the answers are on this site. None of the current players can pass the bitstream through hdmi, they do not have the necessary hardware. The new Samsungs will allow the bitstream passed through hdmi, from any BD new or old:

In your question above, switch your usage of "disk" and "player", and you will be correct.

This seems to be one of the FUD points from HD DVD (e.g. cited as a factor in Paramounts decision) and I'm wondering what the reality is.
This is a rather long story.

You may have seen the start of a back and forth between me and Dave Vaughn over on the other site.

Just keep reading that, and I think you will probably learn all you need to know.

If I get PMed that this guy has made some overt ludicrous comment about studio business believe me, you won’t need any decoder ring.
P-Man, I can tell you now that he has made ludicrous comments about Paramount.

Yes, I know that current players can't pass bitstream.

My question is whether it is possible to pass bitstream using current BDs with future HDMI 1.3 players?
Or....
Is there something on current BD (the disks themselves) releases that prevents passing bitstream to an external decoder (receiver, pre/pro, etc.)?

I'd like the perspective of the formal "insiders" at this forum. (So Max, when are you getting insider status at AVS?)

If you believe Mr Vaughn. regarding Paramount:

the cost of producing BD50 titles was a very big factor in their decision.

I'm not an insider (duh!) but briefly, this worry about the cost of BD50s simply cannot be taken seriously for reasons outlined in #254 in this thread:

I have nothing against David Vaughn at all.
But I find it curious that a reviewer suddely has Insider status.

In my world - you are either an industry insider, or you're not.

No worries, I don't think I will be asking for any Insider status at AVS, the conditions are too stringent, i.e. I can't give any names over as work would stop me from posting anywhere.

I don't. He has been misinformed by his contacts at Paramount, the only people who know what really happened have a much higher pay-grade than his contact.

You abandon Blu-ray because of Paramount, but Seinfeld brings you back?

That seems more than reasonable IMO.

Region coding has been another club the Dark Side has used against BD.
I should add that it is also possible that region coding on new releases is permissible for split territories between BD studios.

Obviously, there is no issue for split territories and HD DVD studios. Both from an effective protection (they've refused their markets' Blu-rays) and a hypocrisy POV (HD DVD doesn't have region coding, but they'd demand studios use it on BD?).

Wow. You need to be on medication for your mood swings. Just because Paramount did what they did shouldn't drive anyone to despair. You sound like the cook in the Monty Python "dirty fork" skit. Just relax for cryin' out loud.
