No, Lucas only ever made that distinction between his works and the licensed material. Lucas named a bunch of stuff that happened to not be mentioned in the movies. Slave I is an example, but there are others like Ewoks, Mon Calamari, Felucia, etc. And he used those names when required (see The Clone Wars for example).

Besides, since when are George Lucas standards relevant to Disney?

You're the one pretending that this is just about a toy box. It's not. They are already changing the official site. And Slave I is just the latest example, it didn't begin with it and it won't stop there.

And why is it important to Disney not to market Slave I to kids? What changed after 40 years? Is the word "Slave" now forbidden? Is the word "Wars" going to be next? Where do they draw the line? What's the rationale?

I find it funny that some people refuse to acknowledge the obvious, but don't hesitate in making up ridiculous excuses and justifications for it.

The pandering took the form of censorship. Who was pandered? Whoever suddenly felt offended by the name of the outfit (which was justified by the movie), and went through the trouble of erasing it forever.

Trivia that's not in or directly referenced in the movies is subject to change. That's how it was with George and how it is without George. Why should it be any other way?

It's just a website. It's not the constitution.

Yeah. They'll end up deleting all references to the ship's name in the movies from Attack Of The Clones onwards and even in Mandalorian.

I was a kid when the films came out. I know the name, but I don't recall any particular reason for the name ever given.

I'm not really torn apart by the name change. It never offended me, but then again my great grandparents weren't slaves. But it's also not an integral part of the Star Wars lore and doesn't significantly change anything if the name is changed. I was far more offended by the changes George Lucas did to the OT than this name change.

And it's pretty good. Despecialized Empire was really good also.
4k77 and 4K83 are spectacular. Hopefully 4K80 is on par.

It has been 10 years since this release. Simpler times. I remember really anticipating this release... and getting incredibly disappointed after my purchase.

Same here. Except I bought it about two years ago, and I'm pleased with it. Other than that, our experiences are exactly the same.

I have the 2013 set of the original trilogy still sealed and it’s likely gonna stay that way. In fact the only reason I own it is cause I won it in a raffle.

It was important for Disney to not market a kids toy as the Slave I. I don't see what's so difficult for people to understand and accept about that.

No I'm pointing out that Disney's supposedly sinister motives are being questioned, rather than the propriety/suitability of the name being championed (Maybe if it was important to the movies then that's what people would lead with. But, guess what? )

It's only a specific type of pre-packed argument that's being aimed at this toy packaging scandal.
Just to be clear.

Darth Vader - a sadistic cruel genocidal monster that betrayed and murdered most of the jedi that he grew up with; took part in the deaths and suffering of trillions of men and women and children; helped blow up a planet; destroyed all life on multiple planets; took part in and ordered the enslavement of entire species; hunted down and trained others to hunt down all force users and torture them until they turned sadistic and evil or died; helped install a tyrannical government regime; caused pain and suffering to increase his evil powers; caused himself pain and suffering to increase his evil powers; he physically assaulted his wife who was carrying his unborn children then over the next 20 years tried to murder both of his children repeatedly. And let's just assume he'll do a lot more evil shit as the canon expands over the next decades.

Darth Sidious - everything above and more plus he's pretty much the devil in the star wars universe and made it his life goal to destroy the Jedi Knights who are the servants of the Light Side of the Force.

Disney is ok marketing those two massive pieces of shit to children and selling toys of them, but a ship called Slave 1 is crossing some line?

Boba Fett is a mercenary for hire; a bounty hunter who kidnaps and kills and sells people to the highest bidder; a murderer from the time he was a child; a man who has worked for and helped Darth Vader and the Empire; a man that has worked with the worst scum and criminals in the galaxy. But him having a ship called Slave 1 is too much?

Also, slavery is in the main films, the animated shows, books, comics, and games. All of which are marketed to children. Prostitution, drug use, and a bunch of other non kid friendly things are in series as well.

Slave I was picked simply because it sounded cool (like R2-D2) and it has nothing to do with Boba Fett's character (despite what some fans now claim with some sort of retroactively applied meaning about Mandalore decades before the events of Star Wars ) . It was gratuitous. And Lucasfilm/Disney have chosen not to perpetuate it.

I was extremely disappointed with the bonus features, but that was about it. The bonus features would have literally been better had they just ported all of them from the dvds and not made any changes. But I was expecting brand new documentaries in addition to that. I was expecting the prequel version of "Empire of Dreams". The Matrix dvd box set in my opinion is the best box set of all time when it comes to bonus features. It had all kinds of interesting docs about A.I. and phylosophy and how it ties into the Matrix films. It had philosophers doing an audio commentary. I wanted the Star Wars blue ray bonus features to be like that. Docs exploring history, politics, mythology and how they relate to Star Wars.

I thought the presentation of the films themselves was fine at the time, although the new 4K transfers for the OT make the 2011 OT blu rays look awful. When I first saw the new 2020 OT blu rays, my first thought was: "Why didnt they do this for the 2011 blu ray release?"

Is Slave 1 ever technically even named in the films?

A lot of names are not mentioned in the films, yet the names exist and have been given. Doesn't justify changing them, specially for pathetic and hypocritical reasons.
