It's fan service. It's one of my biggest issues with alot of these franchise revivals. A good portion of them are now about fan-nostalgia (which can be fine if done right).

I don't mind eastereggs and callbacks but they've gotten outta hand and can take away from the story ala Brackett line. If he said that to Laurie *in context* it would of been fine but it's just another "10 things you didn't know about Halloween Kills" moment that alot of films are guilty of.

I think one issue with is that many people watch movies today as a critic. They want to find details to nitpick at so they can do some kind of review . instead of just watching it just to watch a movie, they watch it to deconstruct it and that doesnt let the movie engross you. IMO.

Also, probably doesnt apply to anyone here, but many people and by their own admission watch these movies on a phone or ipad and there is no way you can really appreciate any movie in that way.
Thats true, espeshally on specialized forums such as this. For me, Halloween Kills had a Spider-Man 3 moment, where I went in with a clean slate (wasnt the biggest fan of 2018). The more I thought about it the more I didnt like kills (it actually have me more of an appreciation for 2018).

I think you can appreciate a film on a ipad (phones, I feel, are better off on rewatches when youre too lazy to get somthing bigger). Heck, many of us enjoyed films cropped, zoomed and fuzzy on CRTs and VHS for decades and missed out on proper framing or hidden details that didnt come back until DVD or even Bluray (Back to the fututre franchise comes to mind). Kills, to me, isnt a particulary deep movie. It's a Horror popcorn flick but it's far from the worst in the franchise.
