I had to stop the film and play it again to get the right ABL back on the picture. It is a darker ABL film anyways, but I get that's how the director wanted it. It amazes me that Disney and LG are partner's, yet LG's ASBL issue with their TVs are ruining Disney films with darker scenes in them.
Can confirm the LG C1 does the exact same thing. Pathetic. Will my next tv be an OLED? probably. An LG? Not in a million years.

Haven't noticed ASBL/ABL on my A80J when watching movies.

However, in DV, if you engage Advanced Contrast Enhancer, it causes a subtle gamma / black fluctuation in dark scenes aka dynamically adjusting it. It's been reported in A80J and Z9J which means it's there on all 2021 Sony TVs.

I had raised a ticket with Sony about this but no action has taken so far. Need to find out if they magically fixed this in VRR software update.

Btw, don't ask me why I am engaging Advanced Contrast Enhancer in DV.

Interesting. Though this is way worse than gamma fluctuation. You literally have to "wake up" the tv from the dim state in goes into while watching this movie. Bringing up the main menu with those awful bright white boxes does the trick.

ACE has always done this on Sony TVs that have had it. It’s just not able to adjust the picture quickly enough so these distracting shifts occur. No point raising a ticket because there’s nothing to “fix”, it’s simply an artefact of an additional processing mode, as additional processing modes often have. Good job they can be turned off, eh? Oh.

Interesting as I haven't noticed this on the ZD9. Maybe I noticing more on the 77A80J due to the bigger screen size.

Surprisingly I am not noticing it since upgrading this VRR firmware. I re-ran the test scenes and no shifts noticed yet. I only engage it to boost whites and highlights when I crave for more nits.

This ASBL was worse on my LG C8. I still remember that cellar scene from Evil Dead where the already dark picture was darkened further. It was driving me crazy.

None of this BS on the Panasonic GZ and Sony OLEDs especially when watching movies.

Just turn it off. It is not a big problem

Ok but they're functionally life forms even if they say they're not. It's like zombies & vampries, they're functionally alive even if the characaters say they're dead or undead.
[Show spoiler]But ok maybe the eternal don't "count" for Thanos infinity spell. Still the celestials could easily end Thanos and they would know what he's doing. They've created life so it seems they care about it.

I think the movie makes it pretty clear they're more like machines than anything else. Arishem can make them anew and choose which memories to install in them. Also, not sure how they would have known about Thanos when it's clear they're not even talking to the Avengers at this point.

I do agree the Celestials could have done more, but we were only given a teaser on the celestials. This isn’t the last we’ve seen of them. So, the answer to why they didn’t get involved maybe explained later on.

I feel like it's possible the Celestials didn't get involved because it's just not their job. Ikaris said he thought of them like the ocean, unbiased in what they do when they take life to create more, just like nature. Nature doesn't directly stop bad things from happening to it, but there are consequences of what does occur.

On the disc the entire scene is just a murky mess, whereas in the DV version the darkness and shadows are presented a helluva lot better, and I can actually see the details. No matter what settings I tweak with the disc, I can't get it to match the clarity of the DV version at all in that scene.
I've had the disc version of this for a few days now and comparing it to the Disney+ plus stream has been interesting.

People saying it looks dank compared to the DV version... yeah... but what profile are you using, or what specific DV profile does your TV use?

Because on my CX, the Cinema user profile, arguably the more accurate one, looks... well it's dank too. It looks very much like the disc version.

The Cinema Home profile boosts the PQ, rendering it brighter, punchier and to most people, I dare say better.

I use Filmmaker mode to watch standard HDR content. If I engage Dynamic Tone Mapping, the disc version looks very similar to the steaming version via the DV Cinema Home profile.

So again, do you know exactly how your TV is handling the content it displays?

Just a quick look:
Shang-Chi : Yes, including IMAX version
Doctor Strange : Not all extras, but includes IMAX version
Captain Marvel : Yes, even more than the physical disc and includes IMAX version
Black Panther : Not all extras, but includes IMAX version

Hmmm, I'm gonna try to see if I can make an extras list of D+ vs Physical disc.

Why filmmakers make the picture so dim is out of my understanding. They just make movie less enjoyable.

Weird how The Batman is even darker but so many folks seem to like it just fine that way

I didn't say the movie is bad. Not the worst example of super heroes genre. But the picture itself is really dim and it's so unnatural. It's uncomfortable to peer into the screen..

The problem isn't with the movie, it looked just fine in theaters. I've also been able to watch it at home and it looked reasonably close to what I saw in theaters. Maybe you can adjust your setup and make it look better?

I'm not the only one who say about dim picture in this thread. So I think problem is not in my setup. You just have to compare it with some other movies to see big difference in brightness and pop.

Just checked.
The deleted scenes, gag reel and commentary are available on D+
Plus the IMAX enhanced version.

Still missing are:
"Immortalized" featurette (10:45)
"Walks of Life" featurette (5:01)

But like you said, there's a 57 minute Assembled episode about the movie.
