Also are we saying that a possible contract as regards WB may or may not happen (Rumour type thingy?). Pray its a AVC usage deal.

He got the info from some other site yet I don't see his post edited.
The OP also prefaced his remark/quote with "Ok...more info gathered from AVS..... " which made all the difference in the world.

People are a bit edgy/wary here.

Anyone knows the story about member cjplay over at AVS ? It must be a while ago cause I saw reference to him no longer at AVS due to his employer demands or something.

Any link or explaination of what happened ? Who is he and what he posted ?

cjplay is a compressionist working on Blu-ray and HD DVD VC-1 encodes for Warner Brothers studios. He posted a lot of useful stuff as an insider over at AVS last year, but after a public snarl with Amir M. of Microsoft (also less so with one of the Blu-ray insiders, I don't remember who), word got out to his bosses at Warner and they yanked his freedom to participate on the forum to avoid any further embarassment to their company.

If I remember right, cjplay stated that one of the first things the HD-DVD side should do if they could would be to increase their bandwidth.

There's Penton-Mans explanation of what happened.

Penton-Man's memory of it matches mine (and he knows much more about it). Cjplay was fascinating because he was very honest and sort of an equal-opportunity offender, in a good way. Here is the bandwidth comment I was thinking of:

On the 'no' side we have paidgeek, PM's contact plus a third direct contact with Warner that I know of.

Could this have been a late development hand crafted to work? If so Stacey could be in on it. In general he doesn't get into the bullsh!t that his fellow colleagues are so fond - if it was anyone else I would have written it off.

Just curious.
The quote (from early August) was:

That seems to be saying it was ANNOUNCED as both having it, rather than a definitive claim that both would.

Paramount announced Blades of Glory and the Jack Ryan Collection for BD didn't they?

They could always push the bitrate down to ridiculously low levels. Hopefully they use different encodes.

That is too bad...I wasn't aware of the back story.

What's with this guy. I read numerous posts by him where he's trying to smear Paidgeeks' credibility and comparing him unfavorably to Amir and then he makes a plea for Paidgeek to follow him to another site because he misses his wisdom.
It must be excruciatingly confusing to be anti-blu and pro hd-dvd. You just can't polish a turd.

I never quite understood why Sony made this a default setting, when the market for 1080p/24Hz is so small, majority of HDTV's do not support this feature...

you can only guess how many posts over on the Playstation forums started out...

"I put in a bluray and get no picture"

They should have left it "off" by default.
Not an insider here, but point of clarification:

The PS3 does not force 24p output. It simply gives users the ability to force 24p in case their display/receiver does not correctly or consistently handle the HDMI handshaking.

This setting is turned off by default.

It's funny, because most people here don't believe the debates on AVS were open and neutral. What business does a 'writer' have being an Insider? I think the definition of insider would disallow an 'outside' writer to participate, yet AVS allows such a thing. AVS is overrun with HD DVD insiders. The rules don't apply to them. Just read markrubins latest attempt to make a rule change for insiders. Did you seem them recant a little bit later?

I'd be interested to see what happens to AVS after this format war, after Microsoft pulls their money out of the forum....

When people look back and think about what AVS let happen, are they going to trust AVS in the future?

We'll need a forum that actually focuses on science not science-fiction.

The shots in that post @ AVS comprise about 3 seconds of footage, yes, but did you really expect them to post 8 mins worth of pics at AVS?

Also if you or any other person here thinks that a DOP would frame a shot, as depicted, involving a principal actor with his head cut off in the frame while he delivers his lines is mistaken.

If these 8 mins of noted BD framing were correct it would be present in the OAR DVD version, on the cable-HD version, et al. It is not. So let me guess only the BD version has correct framing?

Of course I expect you to come in and change my post like you did the other guys, because apparently instead of trying to make the format better, by helping note anything negative, you'd rather spin. I expect to have my post edited by you, and then be banned by you.
omg get over it, 3 seconds or 8 mins, what kind of anal twat actually went through and noted all this down? Is he locked in a dark room now going through different BD's just to find fault with the format? seriously this format war is bringing out the complete tit in an awful lot of people

You know, this movie has been out for what, 3 months. How many Thousands of copies were sold, and watched 1,2,3 times and no one noticed it. Obviously it's not that big of a deal.

indeed. Its just a stick for hddvd fanatics to bash BD supporter heads with. each supposed advantage of hddvd gets thrown out so a new plus point for hddvd has to be found. Price, value, quality etc etc etc. Not much left, it will be the logo thats under scrutiny next. Pathetic. There are not hoards of bd fans screaming about having to boil combo discs, editorials are not written about the huge failure rates of combos, but the slightest thing against bd gets blown out of all proportion.
