Plus, all that footage was never lost. MGM had a nice dvd out somewhere overseas, either Korea or Hong Kong, which had the footage from a good source. Then they got the good source for the blu-ray set.
It's the Region 3 Hong Kong release that you're thinking of.

Well, JGTH doesn't have a character with a basketball stuck to their head... I don't know if that's a good thing or a bad thing.

I've only seen the Friday the 13th remake once. In 2009.

And yeah...I'm good. Lol.

I tried to rewatch the remake probably a month ago and midway through thought “Why the hell am I watching this?” and put something else on. all the characters are just so unlikeable and it feels like a chore to sit through

Man, I don't know about you guys but I do enjoy the Friday The 13th remake.

Is it good? Absolutely not. But I do enjoy it. Really love Jason in that one.

I'm pissed off that it's 2022 and I'm still sitting here pining for a snowbound Friday the 13th. I can't believe when this $hit was in its heyday that nobody thought to change things up a bit by going to Crystal Lake for some winter hijinks.

A holiday-themed Jason where some ex-counselors or a former camp-goer and friends hunker down in a cabin on Christmas break only for the hockey-masked scrooge to come calling could be a shot-in-the-arm blast.

Man, I wish I were you. Trust me, it doesn't get better.

These movies always have one or two characters to dislike, but this one doesn't have any likable characters at all. And the kills (let's be honest, the main reason to watch a F13 movie) are uninspired. The dialogue is lame. The music is unmemorable.

Easily my least favorite of the series. I'll never watch it again.

^While I haven't watched it yet, I'm familiar with it. Still, a 30-minute fan film can only whet my appetite so much before I'm clamoring for a studio-made feature.

Yeah, a studio-made F13 in the snow would be awesome, the opening to "Never Hike in the Snow" is great!

I get it. But seeing the terrible state of other 80s franchises that are still going <cough>Texas Chainsaw<cough> I'm almost happy they're leaving F13 alone. The 2009 requel was... er... well... less than inspiring. Unlike the studios who only see it as a cash-cow, the fan film guys seem to at least understand what made the original films fun, so I'll take what I can get.

The original is basically a masterclass in building atmosphere and suspense.

To echo what others have said before me, it truly is a surprisingly well-made horror flick.

And from a time (a blessed, blessed time) before every movie was edited like a 300bpm music video by an over-caffeinated chimpanzee. A director could sustain a shot for sometimes minutes at a time and no one complained about how "boring" it was. By today's standards the original Star Wars is stodgy and slow as molasses.

I showed Raiders of the Lost Ark to my young niece a few years ago and she complained about how slow and boring it was. I nearly wept.

Sadly these days most people’s attention span can’t manage to surpass the length of a Tictok video.

When Hollywood started recruiting directors out of advertising and music videos back in the 80s it was the beginning of the ADD Generation of Movies. I still laugh thinking about how critics were so down on people like Tony Scott and Russell Mulcahy back in the day because their stuff looked and was cut like the perfume commercials they cut their teeth on. The critics had ZERO idea that one day they'd have to reckon with the likes of Michael Bay and his progeny. Now everyone in Hollywood is trying to "out-Bay" Michael Bay.
