Ghost Protocol in 15/70 IMAX was something. Oblivion, Edge of Tomorrow, and the first Top Gun were also cool to see in IMAX.

Still debating going in IMAX where I would have to take public transit and showings are more likely to be crowded, vs just walking to theater closest to me for standard format showings which look almost completely empty. AMC A List will cover either.

Yeah, that stinks. Top Gun 2 was apparently originally planned for 3D awhile back, but then dropped later on with all of the pandemic delays and focus on streaming movies. Dr. Strange 2: MM 3D was still playing in 3D theaters 4 weeks later almost. That's a hopeful sign for 3D, normally they would have stopped 3D shows after the first weekend, but the 3D shows kept playing.

The 3D would've really stood out for the interior details, but also the exterior aircraft shots flying lower to the ground through the forests, canyons, etc.

Watching Top Gun right now before going out to see the sequel.

Top Gun is one of the greatest films ever made and it is the greatest film featuring fighter pilots.

RPX is basically a bigger screen and better sound but not to the high standards of Dolby Cinema or IMAX.
So, the aspect ratio does switch in the IMAX version? I've now seen one article say it's 1.9:1 for an hour, someone else said it's not 1.9:1 for only 30 minutes.... I'm thinking I'll just have to bite the bullet and check out the IMAX version (I've seen it twice in Dolby) to see what the deal is.

And it only will "fill the screen completely" on these 1.9:1 screens. At our only legacy IMAX theater in the area, the bottom of the screen would be empty, which honestly is probably for the best. That theater has an odd design where the seating starts about 1/3 of the way up the screen so for many there is a railing between them and the bottom of the screen.

Gonna be watching Dolby today, and if I really enjoy it I’ll definitely check out the IMAX version at the Citywalk. I’m strongly considering the ScreenX version which sounds like a total gimmick but still a curiosity I can’t explore at home.

Also worth noting, if you dine at Applebee’s and spend $25, you can redeem your receipt online for a $15 fandango credit to use on Top Gun.

Great deal, with one major flaw: you have to eat at Applebee's. At least it isn't Golden Corral.

Jennifer Connelly is a personal favorite of mine and she looks amazing, it was really great seeing her in the film,
[Show spoiler]and I really liked that they put a Bowie song in her first scene.

The film was great, probably the best of the year so far.

Saw it tonight and I gotta say it was one of the best experiences I’ve ever had at the cinema. Totally amazing, it was a thrill ride and very emotional. Tom and Co did a brilliant job, a very worthy sequel to a classic. Day one purchase when it’s released on 4k UHD disc.

Will be buying the cd soundtrack tomorrow when it’s released at HMV. The music to Top Gun is brilliant. It’s good that they bought some familiar music back from the original opening theme to Danger Zone. Gets off to a good start straight away. I could never understand why they never ever released the full score for the original. Lots of other films get the special edition or expanded treatment from specialist boutique labels such as La La records and Intrada but not this and that’s a travesty as Harold’s score is superb.

It says there’s 100,000 flight packs but I’m not sure how many different items are in there since it’s essentially a mystery box. Mine had around 9,000 for the total. Assuming similar numbers there’s probably at least 10 but I would wager some have a lower amount made so it could easily be higher. Considering the number of pilots in both films, 10-15 different helmets sounds about right.

Edit: Found the number, there’s 18. Hollywood is one of the commons, my friend got him too. My other friend got Bob, who has same odds (9.09%). Toughest to get are Maverick, Goose and Iceman who all have a 1.14% chance (I assume that means about 1,100 each)

I thought the score was the best part. I'm not gonna say the Gaga song is amazing or anything, but the riff of the chorus they use as the main them of Maverick really worked for me. Two days later, I can't get it out of my head.

I mean, I didn't love the film, but it still was very good.

I think I'd like to see it again before I wrote my Letterbox'd review. My hype got out of control this last week.

The scene with Iceman was pretty much with heartbreaking, not for what's on screen happening, but to see what cancer has done to a great actor.

My audience gave it a huge, Marvel style applause at the end.

Just got back from imax screening. Absolutely loved it and must see in imax if available.

Even though you have seen it 1000 times I would recommend rewatching the original beforehand.

Absolutely brilliant film!! 10/10. We saw it in IMAX. Definitely the way to go. Great audience too! Easily the most engaged crowd since Endgame.

There were supposedly plans for La La Land to release the "Top Gun" score years ago and something happened. It sounded like they were waiting on approval (the assumption was from Cruise, which I'm assuming would have something to do with artwork, but am just guessing). It seemed like it was a done deal and it eventually turned into a "maybe never" situation. People still keep hoping it will just show up, but La La Land isn't stoking that fire. Since it didn't get released this month, the goal post will just keep getting pushed back to every Black Friday until it comes out...

Lol! I thought the exact same thing. Didn’t make me enjoy it any less. Actually, the opposite. I thought if
[Show spoiler]Patty Jenkins’ Rogue Squadron was this exact movie, except with X-Wings, I’d be happy. Maybe it was, and that’s why it was delayed
