MaxCLL here is 1.3k nits but it only really eclipses 600 nits in a couple sections, and mostly stays well under that threshold. Average peaks are around 104 nits. MaxFALL is 337 nits, average frames at 35 nits.

My highest shots were still pretty low: 233 nit peak, 138 nit frame:

WCG usage here is seriously impressive. Most of the shots I took pushed into at least P3 and in a variety of colors:

Bitrate is also strong here with a mean of 72 Mbps and peak above 145 Mbps.

I think the host is having technical/server issues. At least I hope that's all it is.

Honestly, probably not. I think I'm going to avoid all the Cameron releases out of principal. Now, if I get it as a gift or something, I'd be happy to run it through the paces but it's not in the cards at the moment.

MaxCLL is 1271 nits but the DV layer expands that to the full 10k. Average peaks are a manageable 389 nits. MaxFALL is 761 nits, averages near just 23.

Highest peak and total frames captured were 1489 nits and 56.6 nits, respectively:

WCG usage here is pretty minimal aside from some little details and this one cool shot:

Strong bitrate here too with a mean of 74 Mbps and a peak of 119.

Found this in the clearance area at Big Lots and wanted to run it through its paces. Was taken aback by how strong the highlights were, in basically every scene. MaxCLL is 1.7k nits and the average highlight is 922 nits. More importantly, though, I noticed very little detail in those highlights. So I tracked down the Blu-ray and decided to a comparison of some of those strong highlights to make sure:

4K Blu-ray Tonemapped, 4K Blu-ray Raw, Blu-ray SDR

All images have been resized to 1080p

And what do you know: no new detail there at all, as far as I can tell. On top of all that, there's no use of the WCG (P3 or Rec.2020). So we're left with an upscaled image (it comes from a 2K DI), Rec.709 color, and artifically raised luminence levels. Basically, it’s fake HDR.

For posterity, the strongest highlight I captured was 2011 nits, full frame 93.5 nits:

Yep, I got their one 4k Doctor Who release and the thing is brighter than the sun. I actually watched that episode on BD the last time to avoid it. It's a shame that the BBC didn't keep going with 4k, but if they had who knows how long it would have taken to change this issue.

Since this is a Dolby Vision title what affect does this have on the MAXCLL and MAXFALL compared to the HDR10 data you posted?

The best thing about comments like this completely (and conveniently) ignore the fact that original prints play in retro/art house theaters like Tarantino's New beverly, so you don't have to remember 28 years ago.

No doubt. But there are people who post here who honestly claim to remember how a movie looked when they originally watched it, decades ago. That’s who my post is directed at, not those that have seen a print recently. Obviously those thoughts would be far more valid.

The Matrix trilogy does not have their brightness raised via Dolby Vision, if that’s what you’re asking. You can see those titles here.

I’ve run into several UHDs now that have remarkably good seeming HDR presentation with no brightness issues and interestingly show 0 on MaxCLL and MaxFALL nit usage when I open the playback info on my UB 820. Is this a particular thing with the 820 not displaying info on certain titles or have people finally figured out that catalog titles should be much more careful with HDR handling?

Two of these are the Arrow Barbarella UHD (DV) and the Disney Cinderella UHD. (HDR10)
