Regarding "Pet Semetery": The book is probably among King's best overall and flat out his best true horror story. I agree though...the movie doesn't work. The imagination makes the story scarier than a visual interpretation could. This is all just my opinion, of course.

For me I find him a bit overrated as a writer, I picked up some of his books over the years, most were just not that great for me.

I only have a top 2 for his movies

1. The Stand (the only book I did like from him)
2. Shawshank Redemption (one amazing story and movie, never read the book)

I think King is an incredibly gifted writer - and the most prolific American artist this side of Twain, Rockwell, and Disney. King is almost too prolific -- he's like a shotgun -- he doesn't hit the target so much as he impacts everywhere near it. IT is a masterpiece right up until the climax. Same thing with THE SHINING and THE STAND. His short fiction seems to have a better sense of story - Shawshank, Green Mile, The Body (Stand by Me) - and it is no wonder why they're his best cinema adaptations.

By the way, I thought Mikael Saloman did a great job with the Salem's Lot reboot. And the 5-6 hour version of STORM OF THE CENTURY was wonderful as well.

I'm glad someone FINALLY mentioned Salem's Lot. One of the best vampire movies IMO.

Shawshank, Green Mile, Mist, It, Misery. I like The Stand, but every time I watch, I feel like the actors are just reading the novel aloud. The actors in my favorite movies became the characters - not so much in the Stand.

I just got the urge to see the movie about the house...it is an old house that looks like a hotel and people can't get out of it. Not a good movie, but I feel like watching that one.

A lot of you have put The Mist down. I know it is all opinion but I thought the film was pretty crap but it did have an excellent twist at the end.

The twist made the movie for me.... and The Mist was a classic King movie... from the actors to the script.... loved it

There wasn't a twist in the book. Personally, the ending in the film is cruel irony. There's a reason the movie is the lowest grossing Darabont/King adaptation -- when you watch a movie that makes you feel worse than you did walking in, the word gets out.
