I don’t particularly have a dog in this hunt but surely you’re not implying dialogue is the only sound that matters in movies???

No, Lucas' point with that quote was that only music mattered in his movies (as silents were usually accompanied by music)

I doubt he would’ve put 10% of the energy he did into the sound design of STAR WARS if we were to interpret that quote that way. I posit that he meant the music and sound design could stay and the dialogue could go and you could still easily get the point of the film. Again, I’m no heavy breather for everything being Atmos’d; I just find Lucas’s quote about the narrative simplicity of STAR WARS to be an odd and specious challenge to those who are.

I think you got it wrong there Geoff on this one.

His exact quote is:
Quote:
Sound is 50 percent of the movie going experience, and I've always believed audiences are moved and excited by what they hear in my movies at least as much as by what they see.
This is the same person who started Skywalker Sound and made Ben Burtt famous. The same guy who pushed Dolby into developing Dolby EX 6.1 in tandem with Skywalker for Phantom Menace. Who started the THX certification system for movie theater audio standards...

Someone like Woody Allen making the "silents" statement I can believe. But not Lucas.

Eh, it's Lucas being Lucas, he says whatever fits his worldview at that moment in time.

There is a lot of controversy about the fact we are shooting this digitally. As far as I'm concerned, they should have been shooting digital cinema twenty years ago.

Now imagine how the AI-enhanced 4K remasters would look if Cameron shot his 90s films on 480i digital

Him and Blomkamp could have been made so many amazing films if they just left the writing to others.

Oblivion is a science fiction movie that received a PG-13 rating from the MPA. This movie had a budget of $120 million dollars with box office sells of around $287.9 million dollars. A successful science fiction movie. This Oblivion movie received a PG-13 rating from the MPA for the following reasons “SCI-FI action violence, brief strong language, and some sensuality/nudity”. The nudity in the movie is a brief full body rear female nudity. Oblivion was released on the 4K Blu-ray format on 8-9-2016 and both the BD-66 4K Blu-ray disc and BD-50 2K Blu-ray disc plays back perfectly fine with no issues. A total of 58.4GB of space out of 66GB is used on the dual layer BD-66 disc. A total of 43.7GB of space out of 50GB is used on the enclosed dual layer BD-50 disc.

Normally I only take the time to mention brief comments about BD-100 discs and not BD-66 discs. However, I was disappointed that the lossless 5.1 isolated musical score was not on the 4K Blu-ray disc and instead one has to insert the 2K Blu-ray disc to listen to the excellent lossless 5.1 Dolby TrueHD musical score. The studio did place the excellent Tom Cruise and Director audio commentary on the 4K Blu-ray disc. All the other extra features are located on the enclosed 2K Blu-ray disc. Overall I thought this was a very cool movie with the alien race being a AI supercomputer and some very cool drones in the movie. The human clones were kind of neat. In real life Tom Cruise would like to own one of those fictional year 2077 Bubble ships if some talented engineer some time in the future makes something similar to what is in the movie. Because of limitations of my display and A/V receiver the upscaled 4K Blu-ray disc with lossless 13.1 Dolby Atmos was downscaled to 2K SDR with 7.1 Dolby TrueHD core audio. Very cool movie and I happen to be a big fan of Tom Cruise who does all or most of his own stunts in the movies he stars in.

I can't believe most films that are 11 years old are 11 years old. Older people always said the more you age, the faster time flies. They were right.

If this ain't the truth! Just rewatched Oblivion last night in 4K. Like most said the video looks pretty much the same albeit softer. Atmos is awesome

But cannot believe this movie came out in 2013.. I fell out of my chair and wasn't even sitting in one!

Pretty scary actually!

I wonder if the 4K streaming version has more detail than the UHD?
