I mean....adopting a format really isn't that hard. Here is how I went about the process. I bought a PS3 for it's ability to play Blu-ray. Then, I know it sounds crazy, but I started buying movies. Funny thing is, I enjoyed those movies so much, I continued to buy more. Now I have a collection of about 60 spectacular movies. I mean, you don't have to do it like that exactly, but thats one way.

How is this anti consumer? The only right you have when purchasing a movie is to watch it, not copy it. Saving money? You are probably renting HD DVDs and ripping them. I'm sure Universal, Paramount/Dreamworks and Warner Bros. loves you for that. You will probably be even happier when Disney and Sony start using BD+ too.

The real question should be why are you buying HD movies to watch it on your computer? wouldn't it be the same to buy cheaper DVDs and watch it on your computer? lol

I find it funny how "backup" has now become another word for steal.
To the OP did you expect people to agree with you? LOL this is a blu ray forum....people on here support blu ray. Your post is just to wind people up, taking a shot at one of the blu ray exclusive studios is not gonna sit well with blu ray fans |

your justification for making illegal copies is hilarious. don't you ever read the opening screens of movies? they strictly do not want you to copy discs for personal or monitary gain what so ever. i'm glad the BDA has a stronger encryption than hd dud... the faster those movies get pirated, the more likely it is those studios wise up and jump off that sinking wreck of a format. it doen't matter though, i appreciate your kind... you make the dud look less and less viable.

AACS was supposed to have Managed Copy which would legitimize and control the copying of discs for media servers and portable use. The problem is, AACS has been stuck at v0.9 since launch, and the final full version 1.0, which is supposed to allow Managed Copy, has slipped and slipped and slipped. The inability for everyone to finalize AACS is the anti-consumer move here. Gary |

Even with a server with several 1TB hard drives, why would you want to serve them out? Because you can't get up and put the disc in the drive? I mean come on, the only reason I can see from my standpoint, is to create an FTP (or whatever) site so people can download the movies. I mean does anyone actually know anyone who really backs up their movies?!!?

Theres no reason why you should need to make copies of blurays. They have a hard coating. They are very very durable. BD+ is anti pirate, not anti consumer. Copying movies to your HDD before watching them is the silliest thing ive ever heard.
Obvious troll. |

i still don't understand, so you like HDDVDS because you can rip'em and save it on the HDD. why would you want to do that? this is the first i run into someone that likes HDDVDs because of this reason. if you said you like it because of Hi Def presentation, then i would have said, you don't know what you are missing with what BD has to offer. |

If you think otherwise, then you should stop watching movies whenever your friends or family members are in your presence because the movie studios aren't making any money off them. The sames applies to lending movies. Sounds ridiculous? Well, that's because it is! The only thing in process of making a back-up copy that is "illegal" is that you are breaking the law by decrypting a encrypted property. What I'm saying is, consumers shouldn't be held accountable for making backup copies of the movies they bought. It's the thieves who re-distribute movies to the public without authorization that should be held accountable because they are the ones who are taking the profits away from the movie studios. When you buy a movie, you automatically agree that you will use it for privates uses only meaning you will play it in your household or other private households, nowhere else. Not even in a school classroom which is considered a copyright infringement. It's only the encryption that is illegal to break through. So it's a gray area for the consumers. The encryption is meant to prevent piracy. There's a difference between piracy and back-ups. |
