what I mean is something like: Wade gets Wolverines blood deal with cancer (which according to the comics is where his regenerative powers come from), incident in Wolverine happens and Logan leaves (what we saw in the movie), Meanwhile Wade becomes Deadpool and eventually others leave (in the movie Sabretooth and wade/Deadpool where the last two), Stryker decides that mutants can be useful but not predictable, decides to make super-controllable super-mutants, gets Deadpool to agree (I am assuming the controllable part would not be said), starts adding powers, decides that "unbreakable" would be good, experiments on wolverine (now we are back in the wolverine movie) first to make sure it will work and then tries it on Wade/Deadpool and weapon XI is born.

So in essence the "real" deadpool could exist with the story shown in Wolverine, it just happened between the two incidents (Logan left team X and became Wolverine). All we need to assume is that the comics never got to that part of his story.

As much as I like trying to make movies fit with continuity and such, I'd rather the creators say "Nope, didn't count. Do over!" Which is what they are doing... I think.

no prob, I can understand not liking what happened to deadpool in Wolverine. And since they created the idea of multiverse in the marvel universe in order not to need continuity (i.e. that happened in universe A while this is universe B so who cares if there is no continuity) and that these are two different media (i.e. not the same story being continued) some hand shaking between the two (comic world and Movie world) is not needed. On the other hand it is in my nature, I like things to make sense, I like to try and see the upside. I was just explaining how I reconcile what happened in wolverine with what we know of deadpool in the comics. They don't need to be at odds and so I can accept it. The same with the new movie if they do say ""Nope, didn't count. Do over!", at worst it is a different universe (which is acceptable in the cannon of the Marvel world), at best if there is no continuity issues between all the x-man movies, I will just assume it takes place during that period (if intended or not)

I get what you are saying. It is kind of too bad that we have to do that individually. I almost consider Wolverine to be separate from the X-Men movies for a couple of reasons. Hopefully Marvel one day gets all of their character movie rights back and can have control over continuity with the Marvel-Movie-verse

Deadpool Writers & Ryan Reynolds’ Director Choice

Two weeks back we reported on a Ryan Reynolds interview from MTV where they talked about the actor’s success throughout 2009 and the two major comic book films he is signed on for: Green Lantern and Deadpool.

Now, MTV Splashpage has put up another part of that interview where Reynolds discusses finding a screenwriter(s) to pen the X-Men Origins: Deadpool script as well as who his ideal director for the project would be, and how that choice just so happens to link to that other comic book movie he’s starring in: Green Lantern.

Interestingly enough, Tarantino revealed a few days ago to MTV News that he was offered the Green Lantern movie a while ago before there was a script, but he declined. How cool would that have been? Instead, Tarantino would like to do his own original work, so if he did a comic book movie, it wouldn’t be based on a character(s) he created himself:

Going back to Reynolds and that status of the Deadpool movie,

He continues to reveal that there have been a lot of meetings with writers, who each have something unique to bring to the movie. They’re working on that still and he’s hopeful that something can be announced officially sooner rather than later.

There’s nothing official on what writers are being looked at, but going by a potential scoop from CHUD, Zombieland writers Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick could be the chosen pair to write Deadpool for Fox Studios.

Although just a rumor, I would be in full support of Reese and Wernick taking over the script-writing duties for this X-Men movie. Zombieland was well-written, very funny and full of action which all meshes perfect with what a Deadpool film should be. As for who the director could be? I’d love to see Tarantino take over a film of this sort but it won’t happen and he’s keeping himself busy with his own work.

Whoever ends up taking over the writing and directing duties will have a lot of work on their plate with having to make a quality film and representation of the character after he was completely mishandled in X-Men Origins: Wolverine and after both that movie and X-Men 3 failed amongst the critics and split the fanbase. Not to mention, bringing to life a character with such a unique personality and sense of humor and who has been confirmed to break the fourth wall in the movie and interact with the audience.

Looks like Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick of Zombieland are writing it according to CHUD. I did not see Zombieland but it looked good and I heard good things about it. I'm just glad to see some progress with this movie; it still feels like it is in limbo with people saying 'we would like to do this and that'.

That would be great. I don't want QTT simply because if you're making kill bill or something make up you're own story thats great!, but if people have already grown to like a character, I'd bet most people would wan't it relatively the same as what they know.

Agreed. Best case scenario, there is a director who is a fan of the character already and wants to adapt the comics to film like Louis Leterrier for The Incredible Hulk.

Ryan Reynolds Talks Deadpool Trailer & Costume

MTV Splashpage just put up another Ryan Reynolds interview segment continuing off of the Deadoool update post we put up yesterday. All of these updates seem to be from the same interview a while back, divided into a bunch of separate news items. Yesterday’s talked about Reynolds’ wishful hopes of someone like Quentin Tarantino helming the Deadpool flick and we also spoke about the rumor of Zombieland writers Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick possibly taking over the scriptwriting duties for Fox.

In today’s update, Reynolds talks about how the Deadpool trailer must play out, the costume of the “Merc with a Mouth” and the challenges of finding the right story for a full length feature film adapation.



To start, Reynolds admits that he’s not tried on a Deadpool suit, nor is there one created for him to wear just yet (unlike with Green Lantern). He loves the costume and thinks that might be one of the easiest creative aspects of the project and that the real challenge comes with adapting his scattered history into a feature film with a sensible story.

As for the plan for the trailer, Reynolds has a pretty unique idea for what that should consist of, which demonstrates his true passion for this character and film.

This may be difficult to pull off but if someone must break the fourth wall as a comedic live-action comic book character, Reynolds is the right man for the job. He is really destined to play Wade Wilson and I hope the complex character is done justice by Fox and the creative team.

You really have to pick and choose so many of the best elements and cobble those together and create the movie of your dreams

This is why Ryan Reynolds is the best possible person to play Deadpool. That is so awesome that he pitched that idea to Fox! He really knows he character. Glad to see he wants to keep the costume the same and you're right Diesel, that picture of the costume would be sick if it was real.

Agreed, it's just like the character to do his own trailer, just like in the games where its pretty much established he knows its a game, I'd like to see it in the movie as-well it doesn't need to be all over the place but just maybe a nod that he knows its a movie .

Like go into a room and kill 30 people and look at the screen and say "only in a movie" something like that

Confirmed: Zombieland Writers to Pen Deadpool

Last month is was rumored that Zombieland screenwriters Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick were writing the script for the big screen comic book adaptation of Deadpool. The Hollywood Trades tonight confirm CHUD’s report, adding that Ryan Reynolds will indeed reprise his role as the wisecracking mercenary he portrayed in last year’s X-Men Origins: Wolverine.

20th Century Fox has no idea when the film would or could go into production. Reynolds is busy filming the DC Comics adaptation of Green Lantern, and won’t be available for another film until this Summer. If a script is complete, production could begin then. No director has yet been attached, and it’s very doubtful that Quentin Tarantino would consider the project, as much as Reynolds might want that to happen.

I’m a big fan of Reese and Wernick’s work on Zombieland. I don’t think people give enough credit to the clever and hilarious screenplay when talking about the success of that film. Also, their comedy style seems perfect for the Deadpool persona.

I think it is a step in the right direction. I didn't see the movie but it looked like there was a lot of humor based on brutal violence ... sounds about right for Deadpool.

We can only hope FOX doesn't screw too much with it like trying to make a spin-off of the spin-off's spinoff.

Reynolds Collaborates with Deadpool Writers Every Day

"Tonally, they got it," said Reynolds. "They just [understood 'Deadpool'] right off the bat. They're fans of the character and they were so excited. We couldn't have done any better [than Reese and Wernick]."

I think that is an awesome way to work, total collaboration. Also, it is great that the writers are fans.
