The David Lynch "Dune," for all of its faults, nailed the look and atmosphere of the books completely. It totally sucks you in to the dark romantic world Herbert created and it's one of my top 5 sci-fi films of all time. I understand why they would want to make a remake with today's technology, but I have no faith that they can capture that magic the same way Lynch did.

I've seen both the original version (and the extended version) and the mini-series. I thought both were very good, but quite different. I've heard that neither really follows the book very well though. I have a copy of the novel, and might get around to reading it one day.

I don't know about the miniseries. I just saw the movie recently and liked it. I think the remake is going to suck. just imagine 15 years from now, and FOX starts talking Star Wars Remakes.

I don't remember the original movie being that much different than the book, other than the fact that the book was a LOT more complex of course. Like someone else said, it could fit into 3 movies easily. The actual story line is way more epic than the original Star Wars Trilogy. The main difference I remember is that the Baron in the book was not disgustingly diseased like he was in the movie, that was a David Lynch special right there.

Im a fan of both the Lynch film and the sci fi version. Both capture the look and feel of the novel, but in different ways. The mini is much truer to the novel but the way Paul and Leto r written always struck me as off key. The characters seem truer in the Lynch version but so much of the plot is left out it usually just inspires me to reread the book.

As for Berg, I like some of his work, especially the Kingdom. I really see no need to remake this movie. The novel is so dense it needs the larger canvas that tv offers.

I love the movie but I find myself enjoying the miniseries more. I can't wait for the miniseries to be released on blu.

I have Dune on HD-DVD... horrible movie. The remake would have to be completely different in order for me to even consider watching it, at which point there would be little point in still having the Dune title... so yeah, do not want.

'Dune' remake back on track with director Pierre Morel

Paramount has found a new director for its remake of the sci-fi classic Dune, after Peter Berg dropped off the project in October. The studio has hired Taken helmer Pierre Morel to oversee the movie. Paramount is currently looking for a new writer to incorporate Morel’s vision of the project into the original draft by Quantum of Solace scribe Josh Zetumer. Morel plans to make a very faithful adaptation of the 1965 book by Frank Herbert. The movie is a high priority for Paramount’s production chief Adam Goodman. Kevin Misher and Richard Rubinstein are producing.

3D please.

I saw both, but the original movie will always have a special place. I love how it looks, how it feels, the actors, and everything else about it.

A remake would be fine and I'd probably enjoy it, but the original movie will be tough to beat in my eyes.

Even a Lynch failure is more mesmerizing than most directors' great films.

You know what I just thought about - I would love to see a remake of Dune directed by David Lynch. A reimagining of it with today's technology and the same trademark Lynch weirdness. That's the only Dune remake I could get behind 100%. I know it will never happen.

I was introduced to Frank Herbert's world of "Dune" by reading his novels in the late seventies and early eighties. Needless to say, they blew me away. So when they first announced a film version I was floored, then I saw the thing . It still ranks as one of my most disappointing viewing experiences ever . And it figures, that version is the one that's released on Blu . I'm hoping (more like ) that the 2 excellent mini-series will be released....

And the equally stunning........

For these are stories that can't be told in 2 to 2 1/2 hours
