I wouldn't {entirely} say that... I mean they DO have to make money on the product, and Iphones are bleedin' expensive pieces of kit {which is factored into your basic monthly bill when you sign the contract}

The data is required to have the phone. The best you could do is alter the number of voice minutes. Even then though, whenever a change is made to a plan it renews the original agreement terms, so if you signed up for 2 years then you will be stuck with that new plan for two years again.

AT&T is rumored to break even after 18 months with the iPhone. That means they make ~$510 profit over the life of your contract, IF you actually kept it 24 months, and I doubt anyone does...

AT&T is giving a good deal, Apple = fail (as usual).

Most of the complaints I hear about the iPhone are AT&T's fault rather than Apple, and I hear a lot. Hardware wise, the iPhone is solid. And AT&T's iPhone plans are hardly a good deal.

Yep, while I don't personally like Apple the iPhone is a good phone. AT&T has been handling their network horribly though and didn't anticipate the amount of people that would flood their data services.

Why would I be crazy? If somebody doesn't need unlimited minutes, then that doesn't seem like that great of a deal, especially considering you've got no data on a phone that is pretty much worthless without data. Like a V6 Mustang with Cobra badges on it to me, but, to each their own.

Oh noes... a company making money? Anything but that... why would they ever want to make money and keep people employeed to fuel the economy...

That's crazy talk!

Companies should just run as charities and give everyone an immediate 900% increase in pay!!

Seriously... once you understand economics, you'll understand why AT&T has to charge so much for it, not only that: {as someone previously stated} if you don't like what's in the contract when you sign for the phone, then DON'T SIGN THE CONTRACT!

It's pretty-much that simple.

You don't NEED the Iphone {for those that do have it} you WANT the Iphone, there's a subtle {actually it's anything but} difference between the two. You can get a phone that has pay-as-you-go capabilities and just exist off of that, most people who've I've seen with Iphones {even business professionals} don't NEED it, it's a status symbol for people who can't afford a Benz.

What's even more funny is to have people sign the contract {which was never hidden from the customer} and then b**ch about the price of the contract. Endlessly. It's not only annoying, it also makes you look kinda stupid for signing something without full understanding of what was going on. {or simply READING the contract}

of course i have data

im grandfathered into a 'tzones plan' for $5.99/mo which i hack easily on the iphone

sure i dont get 3g, but i get unlimited everything including the 'edge internet'

to have att for the plan i have (unlimited everything) and to get '3g internet' youre paying 200/mo

no thanks.

plus i have no contract and if my phone breaks i buy another iphone for $150, pop my tmobile sim card into it and im good to go

i was thinking about going to sprint for the $100 everything plan, but i really like the iphone

Not really trying to start an argument, but how does that have anything to do with what I originally posted? I'm very aware of what AT&T charges their iPhone customers, hence why I said the OP could get basically the same thing about about $60 a month by unlocking the phone and going with T-Mobile.
