I just called my local walmart and they said that they don't know how much they're charging yet because they're checking on what everyone else is charging first so that they can be competitive.

EDIT: Another walmart near me just said that the blu-ray is gonna be $18.98!

2 possible reasons, they didnt send out review copies, or their in an embargo on them, which means there is a specific date when you're allowed to post official reviews. They do this games a lot, espcially games that suck and the publisher doesnt want that news getting out too early.

A possible situation here is that since there is nothing on this disc but the movie, which by todays standard is unacceptable, that they are aware that is going to impact reviews, so they dont need that news getting out before all of us suckers go and buy the movie anyway, knowing they will get us again in 6 months. Its all strategy.

Very true! I understand that they want to release the extended cut in the fall with extras, but they ought to at least include a making of documentary with this release! That way, at least, it would take the sting off of double dipping later. They are two different releases IMO, Theatrical and extended... It just feels like we as fans are being fed a line about best possible quality with a barebones release!

Exactly. They know damn well this is going to have an impact on the reviews, which in turn will impact sales to an extent. There are many people not buying this release when they heard there's nothing else coming with it. I cant remember the last movie I bought that didnt have anything at all.

I dont have a problem with double dipping, but give me a little something extra please.

Yeah most big movies just cram the extras on a 2nd disc. Problem solved.

I gotta admit I'm very curious as to this great PQ. I don't have to work early tomorrow so I may just take a drive over to Best Buy at midnight, come home and sample it.

If it said april I would have never purchased this. And the truth is the behind the scenes stuff isnt that big of a deal to me, but it is to many people. I like that stuff but I dont need it, its just the idea of what they're trying to do thats a little insulting.

You hit the nail on the head! I'm in the same boat as you... I havent seen the film yet at all and still, I'll be there at midnight getting my copy. Blind buy, midnight release, and movie only!!! I must be on crack!

I want to be able to enjoy the best possible bluray experience too, but I feel like I'm being taken for granted AND advantage of!

Why would that take the sting off? You're buying the barebones now...

And the fully loaded version later. Why toss some crappy EPKs or such on a second disc?

The more they save and stick on the Special Edition later, the better.

I saw on Best Buy's page that Avatar is $23. Are they going to match the target price?

Since nobody is forcing you to buy this version, you are not being taken advantage of or being taken for granted. You have the power, it is all in your control. Unless you really are on crack...

Well yeah thats understood, and many of us unhappy about this are still buying the movie, but really, they couldnt put a single 20 minute documentary on it?

Look at the Dark Knight. Huge movie. Shipped with tons of extras, and ill bet they could put out another version with even more. With movies like this they document everything. They really are skimping out on this one here. If I buy a blu ray, why are they giving me a second disc as a DVD? Get rid of that crap and give me a small helping of extras and my mouth is instantly shut about this issue.

is there a "best place " to buy Avatar, or is it going to be the same everywhere? Im just gonna go to target Walmart, or Best buy, and usually each of those stores has their own distinct deal or extra.
