I really did not see the lack of "heart and story" that both the review and MANY seem to have taken away from this movie. It seems pretty easy with any special effects laden movie to just throw that type of comment at it, some very deserving its true, but i can't help but think some are just reacting in an opposite direction to all the hype.

I felt very involved with all the characters good and bad, and at times had problems distinguishing which side i would include myself with. I agree that the "moral" was heavy handed, but with it being such a real world occurrence both past and present imo that is the only way to handle it, heavy handed.

The world and effects themselves were an absolute treat, and i would love to see a video game based on an Assasins Creed engine allowing us to explore the world of pandora.

Over all i thought this was a great flick, and if anything i think the solid story might just be overlooked by some as they focus solely on the visual and think based on their focus, this is all Avatar has to offer. But to each their own and i plan on buying this as soon as payday hits and until then this rental is NOT going back.

Avatar surely isnt godsend. Its just a very good blockbuster movie that has heart and soul in contrast to a lot of other such movies.

For me the Star Wars Prequels are crap because of really bad acting and tons of bad dialogue. And they are badly directed in terms of storytelling and acting. Cameron is way better in that than lucas.

I had no problems at all with the acting in Avatar. Even thought the acting is good (Weaver, Worthington, Saldana especially).
The Dialogue was at times simple but never as bad as the prequels.
I felt very involved with the story and characters in avatar.
In the SW Prequels i was completely out of the movie cause of bad acting and dumb dialogue.

Just be warned.

There's been a couple mentions of the movie going on moritorium in July on a some websites.

So the only available version in November might be the Special Edition release.

This of course, has no been confirmed.

Just here. It could be bullcrap.... but who knows.

The value of this disc in your collection is entirely dependent on your love of the film itself. If you're looking for cutting edge 3D in the comfort of your home, you won't be getting it here. If you crave supplemental features, again, you will be disappointed. You can get the film; you can wait until the fall of this year for the rumoured 4-disc edition, or wait even longer for the 3D version to hit home. So know going in, that this version will inevitably be replaced in a few months, in fact this release will be put into moratorium as of July of this year.

My audio completely went out at both 1:44 and 2:14, but I think that was fault of my player rather than the disc, because a simple pause and replay fixed the issue. Does it hiccup every time you play part ? Or does it go away if you rewind it a few seconds and replay ?

1. His opinion appears to correlate with the evidence more closely than many others' opinions.

2. If you don't find this to be a weak script with poor characterizations and dialogue, well of course you are entitled to your opinion, but it does mean I will be weighting your opinion accordingly with regards to other scripts.

I think the person was talking about the motion interpolation that is so often on, on thosde sets, which looks horrible.

Agreed. After watching it last night I thought okay, that'll be a 3.5, 5.0, 5.0. And so it came to pass. This is my new #1 eye-candy, show-off blu-ray. Plus the movie was okay, too, just not worth gushing over. But the AQ and PQ? WOW!

I actually have seen a few different signs that said "For a Limited Time Only." So it's very possible that they will take it out of print in a few months. It would be a very smart move on Fox's part.

My issue with most of the people feeling that Avatar deserves a low rating in the Movie category is that you think that just encompasses story, acting and in some cases direction. Video and Audio are just meant to detail the technical merits of the encodes placed on the BD. Avatar is THE cinematic experience whether viewed in a theater, on DVD, on Blu-ray, on your PC or on your iPod (ok maybe not this one, but you get the point). The visuals are not meant to be summed up in the Video review, they are a part of the movie. I also hate ratings out of 5 (or I guess here it's actually out of 10), because they are so imprecise. Someone may not want to give a 4 because, "well that's just 1 away from perfect", but in actuality it's 20% away from perfect.

On Rotten Tomatoes the sample of Top Critics resulted in a Freshness rating of 94% and none of them thought the story was groundbreaking or anyone had oscar worthy performances. They were watching a movie and most of them realized that Cameron delivered in spades.

What evidence? You mean the billions of dollars it made world wide? The numerous people who fell in love with the film. What exactly is it correlating with? Other fans opinions that are likewise all over the map. Not everyone is going to view the film the same way. That's true of any film. Your second point doesn't even make sense.

I encountered the opposite yesterday. Was at Shoppers Drug Mart, wanted to see how much the blu-ray cost there as it wasn't marked, but the DVDs had a $19.77 tag on the display rack. Brought it up to a cashier who was also a manager of the store there, and he tells me I'd be better off with the DVD because it was cheaper!

I put it down and walked out. Bought it at Wal-mart for a lot less!

BTW, it was $31.99 at Shoppers Drug Mart FYI
