I liked this movie a lot more than I thought I would have, in fact, I really liked it. However, I have to come in here and gripe about one thing:

"Unobtainium" - REALLY!!!?? There was so much originality in this movie, especially with character design and so on that you would think that they could have come up with a better name than that

That's the first thought I had too until someone told me it's a term used for quite a while by scientists:

I've said it before, but that's no excuse, it's still a ridiculous term, he could have come up with something else

A phenomenon it may be, but you can't use stats to prove something is a masterpiece.

Dark Knight and Transformers used IMAX film for select scenes which is a comepletely different aspect ratio to 70MM.

If you don't enjoy 'Avatar' then why are you in the thread?

I think the movie has grown on me. I first enjoyed the 3d and now I have come to enjoy the whole experience more.

There is no question it is a tale been done before however in my opinion it has never been done so well.

It is a fantastic movie experience that has not been improved in theater or at home(thus far).

The only movie I like from what you have listed is Terminator Salvation and that is because of the Arnold cameo. The rest suck just as badly as Avatar!

If the cameras are 2K, I don't think they even approach the resolution of film IMAX. I believe that R. Harris said that it took approx. 8K to fully captured the resolution of the 70 mm Lawrence of Arabia, which was shot on 1962 film! Of course, we won't see that resolution on Blu-ray, due to the resolution limits of Blu. If you are referring to the large format film IMAX, it has a much greater frame area that standard 70 mm (since it runs on its side) and can use film incorporating 48 years of improvements (compared to Lawrence), so I don't see how 2K could replace it. Unless there is something I'm missing.

P.S., I have seen IMAX films with essentially no grain, and even some regular 70 mm films with grain that is not noticeable at a reasonable 10th, 11th, or 12th row viewing distance (Sleeping Beauty, Ben-Hur in all but a few shots, 2001 most of the time).

Does anyone make an 8K or higher camera? If not now, when?

I ask because I registered mine and all I saw was a link to a page to install an Avatar screensaver. Do you have to install this screensaver to get the coupons? Or will they be sending the coupons out, via email, at a later time?

Thanks in advance for you response.
I registered too and got an onscreen prompt that I would be sent a follow-up email, which as of today still hasn't arrived. My thinking is that the server was probably clogged with registrations. When I registered I didn't see the link you mention in your post regarding the screensaver, don't know what's up with that.

Just watched Avatar again, and i must go back on my word in reference to the AQ. A lot of people didn't like the AQ because it wasn't dynamic well it gets crazy at the end with the fight scene, and i have to keep in mind that they are in a forest and not NYC during a gunfight. This movie has the most ambient sound effect ever. Only to come close i've heard is Mr and Mrs. Smith.

But I suppose you can use your highly opinion to prove contrary?

Avatar is a masterpiece. Because it's a phenomenon. It's a phenomenon because it's a masterpiece.

So if Arni would appear in digital cameo in Eclipse you would like it? Gosh, hilarious.
