Spider-Man 3 DVD falls short of Transformers on first day - Page 2 - Blu-ray Forum

One thing to keep in mind that TF DVD is beating records - it sold more than 300 did and will most likely be the #1 title all year. That's a tall order for SM3 to beat.

Before I had much idea which would sell better on DVD I mentioned that I think one good thing to look at is how the high def disc does as a percentage of the DVD for that particular title. Based on Paramount's numbers I figured they hit about 2.2% of the DVD the first week. But I'm also not sure of their numbers given that they claimed over twice the sales that the Nielsen/Videoscan first alert numbers said.

When you say combined box set, are you referring to total sales of spidey 3 with the box set and standalone have outsold Transformers or total sales of spidey 1/2/3?

Wow. So, we're "well" north of 115K for the Boxed Set + SM3 in terms of units sold.

So, does this mean expectations need to be recalibrated up for Pirates 3 and Harry Potter 5?

Amazing thing is, and I'll wait to see the numbers for Spidey, how many units of Transformers would have sold on Blu-ray?!?!?!?

I'm sure that's what he means. It makes sense to count it that way because nobody is going to buy both. You're either going to get SM3 by itself, or in the boxed set. Only an idiot (i.e. someone who supports HD DVD

) would buy both. In this sense, by combining the boxed set and the SM3 release on its own, you can tell how many units of SM3 sold and judge against its comparables...

I really don't want to elaborate further until Sony releases something. I do not want to unnecessarily feed the FUD patrol if they end up not being accurate.

But yes, Spidey has soundly thrashed TF's first week numbers if they are correct. Keep in mind also that the numbers I've seen did not include the weekend either

It will be a very happy Friday, assuming everything holds. Please be patient so we don't end up giving the HDers any unnecessary ammo

We heard Transformer sold 115M units. Wicky said based on prelim numbers we're beyond that for Spiderman 3 + Boxed set. So, as wicky said, if this holds we're north of 115M units.

i believe it was the dvd version as well. you cant expect the dvd sales to beat that. alot of blu ray lovers was forced to buy TF on dvd.
