You would get the DTS core only.

Update to 2.50 and see if it fixes the problem.

This applies to software playback, not standalone units.

I got mine hooked on Sunday and I watched Casino Royale-- Impressive !!!!! I could not believe how great it looks. However, I am still thinking wheter I should have purchased a Playstation 3 instead so that I can watch movies as well as play video games and be able to take full advantage of my HDTV and the Blu-Ray combination. However , I am concerned that the PS3 may not have the same definition and picture clarity as the Sony Player...

I wouldn't worry about this. I have a PS3 and a BDP-S1, and when I did A/B testing I see no difference. The settings on the PS3 are a little less straightforward than the BDP-S1 (you have to look in two different places), but the best settings for it are surely posted here and elsewhere.

Guys I need your help. I can get this unit for 399.99 minus 10% today brand new!!! So $360 plus tax out the door. Is it worth this change? How does it stack up to the newer sony and other mfg blu ray players? Aside from slow and not supporting 1.1 and 2.0 profiles any other big issues with it? Not sure but is this HDMI 1.3 compliant. Thanks for the help in advance..

How was the load time for ratatouille? Have you tried the new fox titles, spiderman movies or the POTC movies. I am interested to know how this machine is handling the new Java and the BD+ pieces.

I have a PS3 and noticed your name so how does it compare to the PS3 in regards to picture quality?

Thanks and congrats on your purchase...

My BDPS1 with 3.1 firmware struggled to load Rat. It froze halfway through, and I had to finish on my PS3, which runs circles around the stand alone. I also think the PS3 has better picture quality.

Can anyone with the BDP-S1 give me the model number of the remote? I got my hands on an open box from bestbuy for $199 (with the 5 movies), but it did not come with the remote, and I'm not having much luck finding the model number to order one from somewhere.

How did you get the five free movies? I got one at sears for 299 with no remote. Slower than the PS3 but I like it and the sound quality noticeably better than the PS3 through optical. This player is built like a tank not to slag the PS3 but when I watched CE3K in the train scene. Two words "holy cow". The rumbling added something I hadn't felt in quite some time. I found some of these brand new in Comp USA and they were still 699.99. I actually may score the remote from my AV dealer for 20. However I am thinking of getting best by to price match this one. And may either take the sears one back or keep both. And now the free moveies and points from best buy l may definitely be doing this.

Actually my BDPS1 loaded ratatouille just as fast as my PS3. As fro Picture quality, it looks phenomenal. It isn't leaps and bounds better then the ps3 but i do notice subtle improvements.
