"haloing" like seen around the edges of the plane and the mountains is usually evidence of Edge Enhancement actually. My guess is that they wanted viewers to be able to see the plane apart from the early morning sky and got a little carried away with it. You can also tell that quite a bit of DNR was applied as well, the original shot was probably heavy with debris and grain since it was a night/early morning shot.

I've seen the disc and the opening sequence does not look like edge enhancement to me. More like something in the film element.
