That is bullshit and you know it.

Do you honestly think George Lucas can't afford to do a restoration?

Hayden as Anakin at the end of RotJ is one of the best changes to the OT.

Yoda: "Luminous beings are we. Not this crude matter."

Grandpa Humpty Dumpty Ghost never made any sense. If Obi-Wan can manifest not cut in half, and Anakin can manifest with intact limbs, no scars, and hair... then it's silly to assume that as luminous beings they forced to conform to their previous "crude matter" forms. Anakin would manifest as the man he remembers himself being, not as the walking corpse that he was trapped in due to the machines that kept him alive for 20+ years.

Obviously you'd like to see results showing the general audience's preference for the untouched trilogy vs. the CGI-laden saga but I wouldn't be that interested considering how the PT outsold the OT on DVD and people routinely express a preference (or at least an acceptance) for the SE/DVD editions of the movies when polled online. The less-than-stellar sales of the individual OT releases didn't help things either, and I don't think the anamorphic issue was a huge factor. I don't think most people even know what anamorphic enhancement is.

The OT purists really are a minority. An incredibly vocal minority (on the internet, where the irrational-dork-to-normal-person ratio is skewed) but a minority nonetheless. I personally think all incarnations of the films should be available as the format allows it and its the only way to please everyone and I'm disappointed that this Blu-ray release WON'T include those options but even if I were given the option I'd watch the past cuts during my initial item-by-item runthrough of the set and then the upgraded editions would be what I'd be coming back to for future viewing.

Personally I think the most popular movie ever made SHOULD be available in its original form but that doesn't necessarily mean I'm opposed to the concept of modifying it. This truly is a case where you can have your cake and eat it too, Lucas is just being stubborn. That doesn't mean I hate the fact that these will be modified versions only. "Could be better" doesn't necessarily mean "bad".

Look, nobody likes Greedo shooting first. Aside from that the hatred towards individual changes becomes harder to pin down and it becomes more of an argument for the original versions being preserved vs. the concept itself of a director modifying his work. That fuels discussion on internet forums but doesn't really have much of an effect on sales.

So yeah, I expect this Blu-ray box set to feature further changes to all 6 films and I expect it will cause a new wave of anti-Lucas sentiment online and I nevertheless expect it to be a bestseller at its price point and sell more Blu-ray players than any other title in the format's history.

$150.00 MSRP.

You do realize the Alien Anthology is only 4 movies and has a $139.99 MSRP.

Yep and most of the Aliens Anthology sets will be sold ONLINE @ less than 100 dollars. If you think average joe @ wal mart will be forking over 130+ dollars for films you are wrong.

I hope that Rocky Horror Picture Show being a Digibook makes it possible that all 6 films in the set will each have their own Digibook. I love those damn things. Hell, I would take all of them in a big plastic light up Death Star.

You do realize how MSRP works, right?

Cause you sound like you don't really get how it works.

Note that the 2004 DVD Boxset of Just the OT Special Editions had a $70.00 MSRP.

The MSRP on the SW set will be higher than the Alien set, meaning it will go for a higher price, online or in stores. And since the Alien set appears that it will be going at least in the $80-$90 range on release day, it's reasonable to guess that the SW set will be over $100.

Quite honestly, I'm more excited about a potential Indiana Jones Blu-ray set than Star Wars. No 'original trilogy'..? No thanks.

Default The Original Trilogy: Bravo

I remember the excitement present in Westwood in 1977 at the premier of Star Wars Episode IV: A New Beginning. The rousing audience ovations at the end of each showing were unworldly.

I prefer the first two films (episodes IV and V). I'll buy the original trilogy on BD and skip the dreadful sequels (Director to Anakin, "Roll you eyes up and look mean; you must project evil!"). How could anyone like the poor casting, oddball characters, and stuffy dialogue in the last three films ? I walked out of Attack of the Clones, believing that a stand-in pretender, and not Lucas, was the actual director. Only the name and the ripped off fans made the latter trilogy a financial success. Kind of like Revenge of the Fallen.

I can live with that. So long as there are no 'Greedo shoots first' scenarios.

I can understand fans being upset at Lucas not including the original originals on Blu but I am not that big a Star Wars fan to be upset about it and I was never able to see the original originals in theaters as I was too young. In fact, I've only seen the three originals once and don't remember much of it! But I'll be getting at least the prequels on Blu although the six disc boxset looks hell lot of tempting and affordable if I dare say (compared with the Aliens set which I will not touch with a ten feet pole).

Thumbs down Nope. IV-VI only please.

I cannot believe I'm saying this, but I'm going to have to pass. Give me the first three films only IV-VI, and I'll be happy. I hate I-III. I'm not going to pony up extra money for three films that I utterly despise.
