I don't know if I would go so far as to say it was "incredible", but it was good for what it was. The "Empire of Dreams" documentary is very good and interesting, and the other features that were on the disc were nice in-and-of-themselves, but overall for how huge these movies are, I would have expected A LOT more in the extras department.

It didn't even have the three "Special Edition" trailers that were featured on the 1997 VHS Widescreen release of the Special Editions. The only SE trailer featured on the disc was a very early version of the eventually finalized trailer (the finalized version of which was featured on the "New Hope" '97 Widescreen VHS tape) that stated the first movie of the Trilogy was to be released on Presidents Day weekend (which was later bumped up to January), and didn't even give the specific release dates for "Empire" or "Jedi" that the finalized trailer did (though even that "final" Trailer isn't accurate for "Jedi" as it's release was pushed back a week at the last minute). So, it was missing the finalized trailer for all 3 SE movies being re-released, the trailer for "Empire" and "Jedi" that was shown in front of "A New Hope", and then the trailer for "Jedi" that was shown in front of "Empire".

Granted, there are other features that are arguably more important than these trailers, but considering that they were relatively recent material at the time that the DVD set was released, and not something burried somewhere in archives that have to be searched through and might require some cleaning up to make it watchable.

Hopefully we get more robust features on this Blu-Ray set. It sounds like we will be (which is good), but outside of the one deleted seen from "Jedi", we don't know much in the way of specifics yet.

I suppose to addition of special features in a Star Wars Blu-ray release can be important and epic depending on your level of geekiness when it come's to Star Wars

As for me I am a total Star Wars nerd to the point where I make the guys in Bing Bang Theory look normal Star Wars is one of the few times where I still bother checking out all of the bonus features, the others would be when I purchase movies in the Criterion collection. The rest of the time I am not really that interested in bonus features. Those features were fun back 10 years ago but after a while I sort of got tired of them. I mean how many time do I need to see how they created some CGI stuff for a movie The only set in the last 7 years for which I saw all of the bonus features beside Star Wars was The Lord Of The Ring Extended sets who had some very epic features and bonuses.

I agree with you about special features. My interest in them has certainly waned over the years. My favorites now seem to be documentaries included on releases like the DC animated films, where they dive into the history of the comic characters. I eat that stuff up with a spoon. The actual making of the film material is less interesting. You've seen one EPK, you've seen them all.

And, while not as comprehensive. I wouldn't mind having "From Star Wars to Jedi" from the old VHS set either.

+1. I'd also like to see "Star Wars - The Legacy Revealed" that always airs on the History Channel.

Empire Of Dreams was awesome. I have a feeling some of the problems with ANH and ESB were exaggerated for effect, but I digress. It was still an amazing documentary.

I'd love to see Fox's 1997 "Star Wars: The Magic and the Mystery" documentary thrown in as well. There's lots of great old documentaries that would be awesome to have as extras.

Yeah, me too. Maybe even longer, since its focus was primarily with Lucas and the first movie, while the other two didn't get nearly as much attention. If Blade Runner got a four hour long documentary, surely each of the Star Wars movies should have one .

The guy is a total douchebag just looking to profiteer. JC called a spade a spade. In this case I 100% agree with JC, this little prick that was hassling him is no better than a common scalper.

Lucas should at least give us the originals in anamorphic and cleaned up. If Ridley Scott can make Blade Runner look like it was filmed in HD Lucas can do the same.

I think the chainsaw scene should be removed from Scarface and the horse head scene should be removed from The Godfather cause kids might see it ... There are just some things kids don't need to see and some movies just need to be PG13 or R rated.....

Maybe that would turn The Godfather into a good movie if they were to do that

Somebody hanging around the Arrivals exit with a poster in hand has obviously been tipped... not your average fan. I'm not a huge fan of JC as a person but his response to this "fan" was appropriate.

The whole Star Wars 3D thing... I wish Lucas would leave well enough alone. I was glad to see the Special Editions of the original trilogy come out but the prequels were bilge swill and the 3D versions will be unadulterated exploitation of his fan base. I may see "ANH" in 3D just to see if 2D can be converted but that'll be the extent of my Lucas coffer padding.

Besides, Lucas can't and won't get anyone from the American Director's Guild to direct his movies anymore. That leaves various mostly untried/unproven foreign directors.

"The Hollywood unions have been taken over by the same lawyers and accountants who took over the studios," Lucas says angrily. "When the Writers Guild was on strike, I couldn't cross the picket line in my function as a director in order to take care of American Graffiti when the studio was chopping it up. I quit the Director's Guild because the union lawyers were locked in a traditional combat with the studio lawyers. The union doesn't care about it's members. It cares about making fancy rules that sound good on paper and are totaly impractical. They said Lucasfilm was a personal credit, not a corporate credit. My name is not George Lucasfilm any more than William Fox's name was Twentieth Century-Fox. On that technicality, they sued me for $250,000. You can pollute half the Great Lakes and not get fined that much. When the DGA threatened to fine Kershner $25,000, we paid his fine. I consider it extortion. The day after I settled with the Director's Guild, the Writers Guild called up. At least their fine didn't go all into the business agents' pockets. Two-thirds went to writers."

http://books.google.com/books?id=P2P7pwHeZSkC&pg=PA139

The ultimate issue, of course, is the ownership and of his films and the creative license to do what he wants with his property. Lucas won't reliquish that to anyone, the corporations, the studios, the directors, the writers, the unions, the lawyers, and especially the fanboys.
Hmmm this sounds so familiar. Lucas, God bless him is a capitalist at heart. If you don't want it don't buy it. I know I've given him crap over some edits but hey I love the movies. Unions, I'm sure us taxpayers are funding some of that stuff. Unions, if they want pensions and other benefits thats what their dues are for. Lawyers and politicians and unions have ruined this country. They wouldn't even let George work on his movie.
