Regardless, the set isn't exactly environmentally friendly. Come on, it's got so many different sleeves and everything else. I don't think James Cameron ever cared about the environment with it; it was just Fox trying to promote it in connection to Earth Day.

It doesn't make any sense. I guess it's region free or print mistake.

I will be upgrading from the regular Avatar BD to this.

Did anyone else notice that on the first release of Avatar on BD, during the opening of the film, up to the point when they land on the planet, there is some odd artifacts in the picture. It is especially noticeable in the scene when the main character wakes up from the cryo sleep and is floating around. Hopefully this is fixed in the new release.

In Russian it spells in English way. On the cover it's written in Cyrillic.

The review made it sound like all three versions will have the family audio track. My question is how many of the versions will be able to play the family audio track.
The one and only Bill Hunt has answered my question about the family audio track.

The family audio track works on the theatrical cut and the re-release version, but not the longest version. Best!

I had a feeling that the +16 minutes version wouldn't bother with the family audio track, since that version is more for the film fans. Still great to know. Many thanks to Bill.

Any idea yet if the US Extended Collector's Edition is region free? I've pre-ordered the Scandinavian 6-disc (3 Blu-rays & 3 DVDs) Ultimate Collector's Set with the Jake figurine, but it's a bit too pricey for me really, so I might go for the US version instead if it is indeed region free.

Did not know about that particular scene, however many pages back in this thread around August I believe, someone posted picts about some anomalies at the beginning when Selfridge is golfing in main opperations.

Yes, the same as the Alien Anthology. I normally don't care for it either, but judging from people's reactions to the packaging for that, I'm guessing Fox made that style of packaging better than some others. I'm not worried about it for Avatar for that reason.

I know I'm probably walking into a minefield with this question but is anyone else on the fence about double-dipping here? I bought the bare-bones version (have watched it twice) and have this new version pre-ordered through AMZN. I keep going back and forth whether or not I should buy this new release....

Am I interested in seeing the new content: Yes definitely. I tend to be a sucker for the inevitable 'director's cut' (Aliens being a prime example)

Do I generally watch a lot of bonus features on my discs: Not really. I'll watch some, but I definitely don't exhaust content in most 'collector's editions'

Anyone else feel the same way?

I feel the same way.
But given the fact that it also comes as a steelbook, I am not able to resist.

If the set was expensive, I could understand your point, but for $25, the set is practically being given away imo

Once again this isn't the directors cut. The directors cut ios what was released in cinemas and on the original blu-ray.

Finally! My copy has been shipped! With Disney titles I usually have them a week or even two before street date, but with this one, I'll probably have it on street date or a few days later. Can understand that Fox don't want this out of the gate too quickly though... Either way, go Axel Music!

pre-ordered on 10/22, just did a "live chat" with Amazon, said it'll be shipping this Friday (11/12) so I will have it ON the Release date of Nov. 16th (3-disc ext. coll. ed., of course)

$24.99 (down from the pre-order price of $29.99) - gotta love it !

Correct, however keep in mind that during interviews, Cameron has stated that the 'Theatrical Release' was EDITED with the audience's ability to handle 2 plus hours of 3D, without getting sick and puking in the theater.

So, for me, I will consider BOTH of these edits as director's cuts.

Cameron actually said in an interview that any cut of Avatar that comes out is a Directors Cut...since he was responsible for all of them. However, he says the Theatrical cut is the definitive cut.

Then what's the whole point of making other versions? Should I only watch the Theatrical cut? I thought the 16-minute versions was better.

The other two versions are made for the fans. If people want to watch the extra content that wasn't in the theatrical version, it will be there for them.

The point is for Cameron to be able to complete and finish the sequences that he loved the most but had to be cut, while at the same time give an additional treat to the fans. Its not meant to replace the theatrical cut.

The director gets to have his cake, and eat it as well.
