Does anyone remember if there was when they were in theaters? I really hope they'll look exceptional too. They are by far my very favorite movies, and I simply cannot bring myself to watch the DVDs anymore. I popped in TPM again to, but it's so soft, full of EE, and grainy-noisy that I had to turn it off again. Popped in AOTC, and it's just too soft. BD is the only thing that's allowed to be screened on my Kuro. DVD is dead for me, and I can't wait to experience the Saga in Blu!!!!!!!! Sound is going to be fantastic of the PT, that's a given. There are incredible standout moments in each Episode. Actually there are too many to count. John Williams' genius scores will be an extraordinary experience to listen to in lossless Audio!!!!! I wonder how much of TPM DVD PQ is grain and how much just noise, and if they are going to use DNR to decrease the grain in case there is too much!?!? AOTC and ROTS should look immaculate. However, I read somewhere that George Lucas had them blow up a full HD image (AOTC) by 200% or so at times to compose a new shot. If this is true, how could it possibly look good???? ![]() Also, if they are replacing Yoda in TPM with the CG model of ROTS, then they certainly need to replace AOTC's Yoda with the ROTS model as well. Yoda in AOTC was OK for the time, but the version in ROTS is leaps and bounds better, so I'd love them to go for it. They'd only have to re-render the skin and clothing paths anyway, right? What are your thoughts? PQ/AQ/changes??? |

Every time I hear the Tosche Station line anymore, I can't help but think of the Robot Chicken Star Wars episode, where the "power converters" were actually exotic dancers

I'm curious about what they are going to do feature wise. With all six films in one place, will it be the set we are hoping for?
Personally, I would love to have something along the lines of the Alien set, just without the impractical packaging- it's a good thing that the only problem I've had with Star Wars packaging over the years is the harmless and horrible photoshop covers. I'm hoping for some new documentaries on there, with more attention given to the sequels and prequels than before. Given the retrospect, I think it's time to have a documentary, ala Blade Runner's Dangerous Days and Alien's docs, that so in depth and informative, that they even have the kahunas to mention even the toughest of times, not just "we almost didn't get to film this" but the tensions. I also wouldn't mind seeing more time spent on the story developments and script formations. Deleted scenes for the original trilogy would be cool. But given the lightsaber scene revealed earlier in the year, it looks like we might get at least a couple, if not more. Empire of Dreams had a couple of small portions of deleted material, and a CD-ROM from the early 90s had the early Tattoine scenes with Biggs, the alternate Cantina scene, and a couple of alternate scenes, where shots and material was flipped and returned to their originally intended spot. For example, the shot where C-3P0 is covered wires and says "R2, this is all your fault!" was to appear in a different scene entirely. |

In fact chances are that the 35mm "release" prints of star wars in 1977 were nothing more than roughly the equivalent of 700 lpph(lines per picture height). Barely 200 lines above the resolution of a standard DVD and well below the 1080 of a blu ray disc. Lucasfilm technical director Mike Blanchard says, "Almost all of the resolution that’s lost is through the printing process. It’s really funny about technology and the film business right now. People get caught up in these numbers games that are flat-out ridiculous. They say, ‘Film is 4k,’ but it’s not 4k. It’s 4k on the camera negative, but no one has ever seen a camera negative projected. Countless studies have shown that what is shown in U.S. theaters [via the interpositive/internegative photochemical printing process] is between 700 and 800 lines of resolution when you get to the release print. We get that easily. http://mixonline.com/sound4picture/f...ars_episode_2/ |

Well, in order to get the lightsabre fixes I believe that means you'll be getting all the changes and updates in EPs 4-6. IMO, thats an OK thing overall. YMMV.

Which is the point. The 2011 presentation of Star wars on blu ray will look superior to whatever was seen on cinema screens in 1977. Last edited by danny_boy; 12-26-2010 at 04:37 PM. |

My problem with the whole series stems more from the fact that Vader's motivations in Episodes IV - VI are never really examined. The building of the Death Stars seems like an awful lot of trouble for rulers who already have achieved power over the "galaxy" to fight what is described as a small band of rebels. And there are tons of other logical errors, but those have been discussed ad nauseum. Where I think the films fail is that they never explain how that cute and highly intelligent little boy becomes that troubled young man because they skip over those years. In addition, I have a lot more trouble with Natalie Portman's line readings, even though in general I think she's usually a good actress. When she says, "Oh Ani, I don't even know who you are anymore", it seems like a Saturday Night Live routine. Everyone in the theatre burst out laughing when she said that. |

I agree with that well said. And the blu-ray's will look better than what was on dvd , vhs , laserdisc and those hd broadcast that was on spike tv in hd.
