It's called a set-up movie. It sets up the Universe, the characters, and the situations.

It was done that way so that they could hit the ground running for E2 and E3. Without having to slow things down to explain how things work. Plus it's probably the best of the Prequel trilogy. Since it really gives us a look at the Universe and how things operate.
The original "Star Wars" was a cultural classic and set up the next wave of sci-fi explosion after Sputnik and the space race. Phantom Menace was a joke in how it handles storytelling and featured little more than basic shot-reverse-shot film school crap for any dialogue scene. It was really sad to see such the visionary director of "Star Wars" and "THX 1138" handle a dialogue scene like Kevin Smith.

The film plain did not make any sense. It was a tech demo just two steps above Transformers. If Lucas would have spent more time on the scripts and worked with accomplished writers and not just yes men then there would be far less bickering amongst the fans.

That said, I pre-ordered the Complete set because it is going to be straight-up killer. No doubt about it.

I also agree that people need to stop *****ing about the trailer. Even the Disney trailers look nothing like the finished Blu.

Now how long do we have to wait for the features list, hmmm? Also, where'd that guy go that was hyping this announcement so much and said that Lucas has been working on this set for years?

The only real flaw of Episode I is Darth Maul. He just was a pretty mediocre character.

I thought the fandom for Boba Fett was ridiculous, but damn.... Maul's fandom is crazy.

He just doesn't really seem to fit the mold of Sith Lord. After seeing Vader and Palpatine.

He's nothing more than a rabid bulldog, there's no elegence of evil there. Not like Vader, Palpy, or Dooku.

Default 'Star Wars' 3D Coming in 2012, Lucas Says

To anyone who's interested. Copy and paste on here.

Haven't had enough of the Jedi and Sith? Star Wars fans and movie-goers alike will be thrilled to know George Lucas and his post-production power-house Industrial Light and Magic will be returning the
entire Star Wars series to theaters, starting in 2012, in full 3-D.

According to the The Hollywood Reporter, all six films in the sci-fi mega-selling series will be released in consecutive order, starting with Episode I: The Phantom Menace in 2012. Fans of the movies will recall this is the second time the three original movies will have been re-released, the first time being in 1997 when new CGI footage was added to the films to mark their 20th anniversary.

Though originally skeptical of 3-D technology, George Lucas, the series creator and director, was won over to the technology by recent block-buster hits such as Avatar and Alice in Wonderland, according to the movie blog Hero Complex.

Star Wars purists will be happy to know there are, according to an interview with Industrial Light and Magic special effects manager John Knoll in Variety, no current plans to add new footage to any of the films. Knoll assures that they will be exactly as first run, and that every pain will be taken to ensure the quality of the Star Wars 3-D transfer.

There are somewhere between 2,000 and 2,500 3-D screens in the United States, as also reported in The Hollywood Reporter, though this number is growing by up to 500 screens a month. According to FOXNews, this, combined with the increasing prevalence of Sony 3D technology in the home, was a key factor in George Lucas' decision to port the Star Wars series to 3-D.

It's Lucas' hope that 3-D television will be common enough by the end of the Star Wars 3D theater run that a 3-D DVD format of the films will be financially viable and practical. He did not mention how many years it would take to complete the Star Wars 3D run, though the process of transferring studio film to 3-D is notoriously painstaking and could take several years to implement.

Regardless, eager viewers can expect the first run of the Star Wars 3-D films in 2012.

Oh god, that was painful even writing it.

Anyway, I never really had that much of a problem with the dialogue in the prequels. Although I like to make fun of this particular exchange.

Anakin: Are you an Angel?
Queen Amidala: What?
Anakin: An Angel. I've heard the deep space pilots talk about them. They're the most beautiful creatures in the universe. They live on the moons of Iego, I think.
Me: I think those are called "Space Hookers", Anakin.
Not to mention:

Leia: Han, we need you!
Han: We need, what about you need?
Leia: I don't know what your talking about

The scan button on remotes was invented because of this scene.

Seriously?! That's a line from that movie?! Glad I never wasted my time with that release!

Maul might be more explained in the upcoming Clone Wars episodes, there is a 3 part series on Maul's race and we will probably understand more of Maul's origins

Your opinion. Buy A New Hope is probably the worst of the 6 Star Wars films.

It made plenty of sense. On just has to step back from the pedestal worship of the OT and watch it.
And please, there has been bickering from Day 1 about Star Wars. Always has been, always will be.
I remember schoolyard arguments over whether Vader was lying at the end of Empire Strikes Back.

Agreed.

Well, agreed in the sense that it's true if you remove the film's 3 billion other flaws. On second thought it's probably better to consider the film one giant flaw that houses the Darth Maul flaw.

Picking up the Complete Saga. I hope among the 30 hours of bonus footage the original Making Of... documentaries are included. They were my and probably many others first exposure to the films.

You and I have very different opinions. Darth Maul is one of the only highlights of Phantom Menace IMO.

Also that you think the PT is better than the OT.

Does any of you know off hand what resolution Attack of the Clones was "filmed" in?
Pretty sure it was 1440x1080 using http://www.panavision.com/product_de...&id=100&cat=36

In this thread that is considered reasonable.

Things also fall up in this thread when dropped, so keep an eye out.

All of the films have flaws. If one doesn't drink the kool-aid of fandom worhsip and watch them for what they are.

Thankfully a lot of the flaws of the OT were fixed by the SEs. Especially getting rid of Humpty Dumpty's ghost and replacing him with Anakin.

Yeah. But I still don't think Maul really works as a Sith Lord. The double bladed Saber was keen though.

Agreed.

Flaws like Darth Vader's red lightsaber always bothered me, as did Luke's staying one consistent color throughout the first film. Also the lack of really out-of-place and poorly done CGI creatures occasionally blocking the frame used to rub me the wrong way but we can color that problem fixed. I wish Hayden was in the OT more often. Talk about PRESENCE man!

Presence.

Ok, now I can't tell if you're trolling or not. Especially with the Anakin part.
