There is no personal vendetta. Some people are just so blinded by their love for all things Star Wars that they are incapable of reason when it comes to discussing it. Some people can't admit that incosistencies exist, even when the team at Lucasfilm has taken measures to explain them. If they weren't there, I agree, they need no explanation. I also agree that not every story detail needs explaining. If we can't debate these things, why do we bother posting?

Maybe that's why GL keeps tinkering with them, to try and make it more consistent.

But there are no incosistencies.

We, as fans are left to fill the holes that don't exist, until they become really obvious. Then Lucas steps in and attempts to fill them himself. I hope he does rectify the Artoo flying issue with the BD release (though I doubt he will). Not that I particularly want it fixed... But so his explanation regarding droids falling from the sky becomes yet another hole.

i look foward to buying this whole set with all improvements and additives. with all the upgrades that lucas has done with adding another scene here and there i am fine with, but other then making the movies picture better and adding a deleted scene here and there, i really hope he can make the sound to be a true 7.1. to me, that would be awesome! so i have decided this will be the first movie on my new system that i am putting together in september. the only question other then that would be the order i will watch them in????? 4,5,6,1,2,3 or 1-6? either way i expect my nieghbors to be annoyed with the volume. but its star wars so it will be worth it.

I really can't wait for the BD release. I just hope the format doesn't reveal too many things. I always bring up MIB... But for me, BD killed that movie. Every set & cheap prop is now painfully obvious. I hope the OT especially doesn't suffer the same fate (the PT should be okay).

X-Files was shot on film but edited on standard-def video, even the later seasons that were framed in widescreen (this is because Fox went with an "enhanced definition" 480p channel before going HD).

So the studio would have to find and retrieve all the original raw film footage, re-edit every episode from scratch, and possibly redo some post-production special effects. So I wouldn't hold my breath for this to happen.

ST:TOS was finished front to back on 35MM film, that's why it is on Blu-ray. They remastered the FX because of all the optical buildup of grain and other noise, plus to correct many compositing errors and dodgy FX shots that might have been fine for late '60s TV but cringe inducing today.

It's TNG (like The X-Files) and the spinoffs that were shot 35MM then edited and composited on NTSC resolution digital videotape.

You speak of inconsistencies: when in the plot of the OT would it have been handy for Artoo to fly?

I though this had been gone over & we were done.

When exiting the X-Wing on Dagobah would have been way more than appropriate.

Maybe not flying, but when he was clunkedly walking down the stairs toward the Falcon in Mos Eisley (ANH). Using his third, retractable leg would have been more appropriate, as it would have matched the scene in AotC on Naboo. Personally, I think a quick flight would have looked better than balancing himself on one leg.

The bottom line is that these things were done in the PT because they could be done and weren't done in the OT because they couldn't be (because of technology, time, money or whatever). To try and either rationalize them, deny their existence or simply buy whatever lame reasonong GL comes up with after the fact is just playing the part of uber geek. Rather than come up with excuses, I simply pointed out that it would be easy enough to rectify them for the BD release.
