I never liked it and never will, I would have prefered David Prowse or Jake Lloyd over stock footage of Hayden, lets face it Anakin was evil the moment he left Tatooine and his mum to rot lol....

The chances of David Prowse getting recognition from Lucas again is about as likely as monkeys flying out of his butt.

Some are accused of raping the planet when in fact all do, but most importantly only a few rape the people, and we know who they are. C'mon man, in a Blu Ray forum you people bring in politics.

US people are extremely funny. They have no clue of the bliss they live in. I know people that will exchange their current location for a disillusioned Marxist wannabe-nevertriedandeversufferedcommunism American anytime. Come and live in my country please, I'll have in return an army of people swim the ocean to come and live in yours, even as messed up as you Americans have managed to destroy it in the past 50 years it still is a beacon of hope for most of the aspiring people of the rest of the world who want to prosper and be civilized.

I know David should have walked around with a big
[Show spoiler]SPOILER! sticker
on his big gob. I can't believe he's been shafted by GL so badly though it seems he goes out of his way to be mean. Just because he was over enthusiastic about his role to fans and the press. Lucas spoilt the entire reveal 25 years later lol....

I posted this on the UK SW thread. From the Star Wars blog.

Quote:
“Earlier today, I found myself perusing the first issue of Future magazine, cover date April 1978,” says Windham. “The issue has a ‘Databank’ feature for ‘News Items from the World of the Present’ on pages 6-7, and includes this entry for Star Wars…”

“In the realm of the Wars, George Lucas has approached all of the original film’s principals, including Mark Hamill, Harrison Ford, Carrie Fisher, Peter Cushing, Alec Guinness, Dave Prowse, Peter Mayhew, Anthony Daniels and Kenny Baker. Noted SF author Leigh Brackett has been approached with the task of writing the screenplay for the big-budgeted sequel. One of the key elements in the second script may be the origin of the Dark Lord, Darth Vader. One version of his life being considered for the forthcoming production will reveal a young, handsome Darth turning rogue Jedi, killing Luke Skywalker’s father and being pushed into a pool of molten lava by avenging angel Ben Kenobi. Darth is so badly scarred that he dons his black armor forever. It serves as a combination exoskeleton and walking iron lung. The second version portrays Darth as being, in reality, Luke Skywalker’s father. After a psychological trauma, Luke’s father succumbs to the darker nature of The Force and allows all that is good within him to die. And rising from the ashes of his soul is Darth, the arch-foe of all that is righteous. Whatever Vader’s fate in the as-yet-embryonic script, the film began pre-production in London in January.”

The first scenario mentioned – the one where Vader is pushed into molten lava by Kenobi – was likely lifted from a Rolling Stone interview with George Lucas in 1977. The source for the second scenario – the father one – is uncertain, unless the reporter was within earshot of Prowse’s comments recorded at the October 1977 Horror Elite Convention (and referenced in our original post).

In any case, that cat was out of the bag by April ’78, although it fortunately didn’t get picked up by the mainstream media, allowing the Dark Lord’s identity — as Kenobi says — to remain safely anonymous until 1980.
I still think we'll see the theatrical cuts appear. Lucasfilm will say something like 'due to unexpected demand from vocal fans we've decided to release a limited run of the original theatrical versions. Collect 'em all!' And we'll all think we had a part in it and feel proud of ourselves lol. 'I was one of the vocal fans.' Lol....

I doubt that will happen but it whould be nice if it did. As I've said before I like both the original cuts of the original trilogy and the special editions of the original trilogy. The special editions aside from a few things are not that bad and the films look better with the updates to them. And I like the prequels as well and aside from a few things they are not that bad.

There are a few things about the SE's that I like. I like the new victory celebration song.. And I don't mind the scenes of the celebration either. It lets you know that Coruscant is still there (LOL).

I like the new Sarlaac. A pit of spikes isn't scary. Didn't it have snakes in it too or something? Or just tentacles?

Those are things I can understand why GL wasn't able to do back in the day.

Which makes me wonder if they will remove the 'Jedi Temple' from the end of RotJ. After all, why would the Emperor allow it to remain standing?

It probably was turned into something else. Besides, he'd want to retain access to the archives.

Besides, it was added for the DVD release of the flms. It wasn't there for the theatrical '97 SE.

Well, I guess without Jedi to occupy the Temple it's not really anything but an empty building...

Maybe it became host to Dark Side training?

He left it defiled so it would continue to mock the jedi order. He had the holocrons removed.

That's really the only change to ESB or ROTJ that I thought was wholly unnecessary and cheesy. It's just...silly. Even though I like the fact they brought back Oola for new shots. I also dislike the animated Sy, it's very fake and cartoonish, which is something that doesn't go well with the rest of the Palace atmosphere (yes, I prefer a rubber puppet, that's just how I feel when I watch). Other than that, I was surprised at what they *didn't* fix, notably the Rancor scene, which I think looks just as bad as it always did.

The only film that I feel was butchered was Star Wars, because it really does look like cartoons put over live-action (specifically in the Tatooine scenes). CGI just wasn't good enough in 96/97 to do what he was trying to do.

It will be interesting to see if it's done any better this time around.

I know what you mean. I don't know what it is, but there's just something more real about tangible objects

I believe the stance that many take on that is that Anakin "died" when he turned to the dark side, at which point he would've looked like Hayden Christiansen.

That dance scene in ROTJ is the only change that I really don't care for at all. Like you said, it feels silly and kind of puts the movie on hold. But hey, at least DVDs & Blu-Rays have chapters (I always just skip that scene).

On the DVD release, they did fix up the Rancor scene pretty well. The black lines were removed and the color balance was much better in my opinion. I just remember whenever I watched it on VHS, there were many shots where it looked like Luke was being filmed in front of a projection screen (like when the Rancor drops him). Now it looks much better when I watch it.

That renders his redemption meaningless then. I think it was just a knee-jerk move on Lucas' to have some sort of connection between the two trilogies. Plus it's kind of disrespectful to Sebastian Shaw.

It makes no sense to show Hayden at the end. He's known for being the "ultimate betrayer." It was Sebastian Shaw's Anakin that redeemed himself, fulfilled the prophecy by destroying Sidious, and became a force ghost or whatever they're called.

I also skip the "Jedi Rocks" scene. I actually felt "Lapti Nek" was kind of unnecessary in the first place (I don't care to see a musical performance in Jabba's palace), but atleast it seemed to fit the situation. It seemed like something you'd hear in a galaxy far far away, whereas "Jedi Rocks" is, imo, an obnoxious pop song that takes you straight out of the movie. Meh.
