When this was posted over at AVS, I did a search for a thread to post it in, but nothing came back. Oh well. The track list is up on their site, so check it out. I can't wait to see 'Hurt' in HD!

For those that were wondering if this title could be in 1080 30p or the 30 fps encoded as 1080 60i (Which your display or the player should be able to deinterlace correctly to 1080 60p anyway if it was working correctly), here's an interesting post on 1030p encoding for Blu-ray, just posted by dialog_gvf

I"m pretty sure there's a NIN thread for this release already.

The best news (although Trent doing it would have been even better) is that Elliot Schriner is doing the 5.1 mix - he's amazing. His work on REM and Sting's release is nothing short of brilliant.

Interesting that MS had to update the VC1 codec because of this title...

Besides the BD having a higher bitrate encode, it will also support multiple angles where the HD DVD can not:

Quote:
How do the alternate angles work with the three different formats?

A second angle is presented during Eraser, Right Where It Belongs, and Beside You In Time, allowing you to watch the projection screen imagery uninterrupted. However, because HD DVD and Blu-ray were still new and developing technologies at the time BYIT was created, the alternate angles do not work the same on all three formats.

On the standard DVD, pressing enter enter during the three songs will toggle between angles. You can also use the angle button on your remote.

On the HD DVD, real-time angle switching was not possible, so the alternate angle is included as a standalone feature.

On the Blu-ray, an option to toggle the angles will appear on the pop-up menu during the three songs. Most Blu-ray players will display a multi-angle icon when multi-angle content is playing. On many players you can turn this icon off in the set-up menu.

They do have one thing wrong there though.

To hear Dolby TrueHD, you will need a receiver that supports this format. In the future, there may be Blu-ray players that decode Dolby TrueHD and output the audio through analog ports, so this may be another option.

NOTE: When setting up your player to pass a Dolby Digital stream to your A/V receiver, make sure you set the digital output of your player to "Bitstream." If it is set to PCM, you will get a down-sampled stereo version of the surround track which your receiver may then attempt to play back as Dolby ProLogic surround. The audio experience will be compromised and will not sound good. You can tell if you have your player set up correctly by using the Audio Optimization menu on the disc to ensure you are hearing the discrete mix.
Selecting PCM will decode the TrueHD with the PS3's internal decoder and sent it through as PCM. You only want to set it as bitstream if your receiver has TrueHD decoding.

I did find that the only way I was able to hear my DD audio track was setting it to "bitstream". PCM only read as Pro Logic thru my Lexicon. You need it set to bitstream when using the optical cable to receive the DD track otherwise all I got was standard Pro Logic thru the optical cable.

You can only get two channels through optical when using PCM, which is why it shows up as Pro Logic as it would with any other 2 channel source.

When using HDMI you want the output set to PCM unless you have a TrueHD receiver.

Aaahh.. ok. So when I finally upgrade to HDMI then in order to get the DD track I need to change it to PCM ? I really like the way the Lexicon sounds but unfortunately I dont think they will be doing any hardware upgrades on the pre-amps, and their HD pre-amp is a kewl 13k.

No, if you change it to PCM, the PS3's prioritizes PCM as the main audio. For discs with native LPCM, it'll output it straight through HDMI. With TrueHD, it'll decode it and output it as LPCM via HDMI.

As you can imagine, the MS folk are falling all over themselves on damage control for this title.

In order to get the TrueHD track you need to select TrueHD from the audio menu and change your PS3 to output as PCM.
When you get a TrueHD receiver then you can also use "bitstream" which will send the TrueHD signal through the HDMI natively and let your receiver decode it.

I just got back from a screening in Dallas, it is a great concert movie. They didn't play any of the extras/alternate views but it was still great; can't wait for the blu-ray to show up!
