Indeed. It's the same with not mentioning Qui-Gon. Qui-Gon is dead, and can't help train Luke. So why go into detail.

Luke was a dumb blonde hick that shot small animals for fun, so Obi-Wan probably wanted to dumb it down for him.

Exactly.

Ben: Luke.
Luke: (shivering, in pain): Ben?
Ben: You will go to the Dagobah system. There you will learn from Yoda...the Jedi Master who instructed me. Well, actually, Yoda only instructed me when I was a youngling. Later I was trained by Qui-Gon but you don't really need to know about him since you will never meet him or have any need to know about him since he's dead now but I thought you might like to know while you lay there freezing to death.

The plot hole screamers are satisfied. The movie is dumb because of it.

Luke: Do you remember your mother? Your real mother?
Leia: Just a little bit. She died when I was very young.
Luke: What do you remember?
Leia: Just images really. Feelings.
Luke: Tell me.
Leia: She was very beautiful. Kind, but sad.
Luke: But how are you able to know that?
Leia: Like I said, I just see images. I remember feelings.
Luke: Oh, kind of like how I was able to sense that you and Han were in danger AND in pain in Bespin when I was on Dagobah. Yoda said that I would be able to see the past, the future, other places and old friends long gone. Maybe that's how you were able to sense your mother...through the Force. Because my family is strong with the Force. And maybe since you haven't been aware that you're strong with the Force, you've been mistaking these images for memories!
Leia: Luke, why are you spelling this out?? As if you were trying to explain it to some audience that needs every dot connected for them?
Fanboy: And I would've gotten away with it too if it weren't for you meddling kids!

Heee. I've always wondered if people wanted the movie to pause, and the characters to spell things out them.

Our heroes are ushered into the freezing chamber. C-3PO is strapped to Chewbacca's back. Vader sees 3PO!

Vader: 3PO?? C-3PO??
C-3PO: Oh dear! How do you know me?
Vader: I made you! Don't you remember?
C-3PO: I'm afraid I don't.
Vader: I'm Anakin Skywalker! I mean, uh, I mean I was Anakin Skywalker. That name no longer has any meaning for me...but everything else in my life during that time still does! Because I'm very sentimental you know.
C-3PO: I still have no idea what you're talking about.
Vader: What did they do to you? Did they erase your memory?? Well...this whole conversation was a waste, wasn't it?? Put Captain Solo in!

The plot-hole screamers are satisfied that it's been explained. The movie is dumb for it.

Why? They're unwatchable anyway. Besides, I'm pretty sure that nutcase Lucas will use DNR like crazy in an attempt to make everything look digital.

They're easy to watch. You just have to open your eyes.

No. Again they're perfectly watchable. You just don't care for the tweaks. And "nutcase"? Seriously?

IMO, some characters talk a bit too much as it is. Especially in ROTJ, and most especially in some of the newer films.

I don't see any problem with Qui Gon existing in the universe and not being mentioned in the older films.

Like I've been saying, my problems with the newer films, mainly TPM and AOTC, have to do with tone, acting, writing, and editing. Mainly a lot of pet peeves of mine, like characters babbling way too much about how they feel, when in many cases, it would have been better to just show it with their body language and a small bit of dialogue. Or scenes the pointless dialogue from Anakin and Obi Wan when R2 was fighting the droid on the ship at the beginning of ROTS. That moment would have gone far more smoothly if it just had the droid moving onward to R2, and R2 just buzzing it in its "eye."

The tone of the gungan battle at the end of TPM is far too childish for my tastes. Perhaps with liners such as "Weessaa in bad dooodooo this time, Jar Jar!" and Mr. Binks running around like a chicken with its head cut off, I just end up feeling like Star Wars just ends, and The Battle For Smurf Village begins. Once again, not because of the CGI or the look of the scene, but because of its overall tone. Don't get me wrong, I know it was intended to be that way. But I just can't stand it.

I feel the same way about the announcers during the pod race, which for the most part, is otherwise a solid sequence.

They need to do a skit like this if they do another Robot Chicken: Star Wars.

A few shots here and there changed and they're "unwatchable".

The only part I find unwatchable is Tatooine from SW, and the new "let's make Jabba's a fun place for kids" music video. The former is simply bad CGI cartoons inserted over the film, the latter simply awfully CG'd blather put in to make Jabba's less threatening to kids.

Many of the other changes are OK, some are even great - like Bespin finally being a Cloud City and not a White Wall City - but that doesn't change that I wish they'd give us both versions and let us decide what to watch.

Actually, there's literally hundreds of changes. Not to mention that the colors have been altered throughout, meaning that every single frame has been changed.

I´m curious about the color. I watched some Clone Wars last night and the interior of the Republic Medical Frigates was the original white that the Tantive IV had in ANH before the alteration (if I compare them to the screenshots).

As most of you know the color of the Tantive IV is also the proper white colour in Revenge of the Sith.

So there is hope

From an editing standpoint, "a few shots here and there" can affect a lot, including pacing and tone.

Of course, on a Blu Ray forum, that might mean nothing.

None of which really change the story one iota.

So a few tweaks like adding windows to Cloud City hardly is something to have a tizzy over.

.
I personally think, given what we know about Anakin before he turned, Anakin would've wanted Luke to have it, even if he hadn't told Obi-Wan. Obi-Wan had been with Anakin longer than we, the audience, have and it's clear they're close. Heck, Obi-Wan said they were brothers. When your that close to someone, you can make a few assumptions about that person. Ergo, Obi-Wan assumed Anakin would want his son to have his lightsaber and, quite frankly, I don't think it was a wrong assumption.

As for Vader not recognizing 3PO...Yeah, there really nothing that special about him in his universe (and that's coming from his biggest fan). He looks like every other protocol droid. I mean, look at all of them; except for 4-LOM (the droid in the bounty hunter scene in Empire) all looked like 3PO. Sue Vader for not recognizing 3PO . Also, he never talked to Vader. The only time 3PO talked around Vader, Vader was busy luring Luke. For the admittedly valid point about Vader having the force to recognize others, possibly even those without the force:

(In case you haven't watched the films yet)
[Show spoiler]A.) Vader didn't even sense anything about Leia, so what chance did 3PO have at being recognized,

B.) Vader did recognize 3PO, but he probably didn't even care.

Just my theories, feel free to dismiss them if you want.

I got the feeling that there were a ton of protocol droids in the universe and that we didn't see that many. There may be more that have 3PO's voice. Again, Vader may not have really cared even if he recognized 3PO. Oh, and watch your language.

Off topic (or on, depending on your view): I can't wait for a detailed breakdown of what's on the discs. I know there's going to juicy stuff in this set and I want to see what it is.
