WHO THE &$@% CARES???

It's a frikkin' BOX. A package. Something to hold the discs while you're not playing them. The End.

It's sad so many are concerned more with the packaging than the content.

That is indeed sad.

The world would be a much nicer place if we all liked the exact same things and prioritized them the exact same way.

Sarcasm aside there are too many threads derailed by the slipcover obsessed cult here.

When I see people who already own the ALIEN Anthology going to buy the new standalone discs just for the slipcovers....

Oh wow. People actually do that? See, this is something about collecting movies that I will NEVER understand. A slip cover is basically a cardboard blu ray condom. Now that I think about it, maybe I will sell my slipcovers on ebay for more than the movie is worth. Just wow though that people would buy the same movie twice for a peice of cardboard.

How is it different from collecting vinyls for there covers? Or collecting rare books with different covers? Its a far sight better than what some lunatics collect such as hair and toenails and lint. I'd be more worried that it bothers you so much. To me the packaging is just as important as the content. I ask you do you buy books without covers? Would you buy something thrown in a paper bag? I like my collection to look nice and I'm not gonna buy something that is wrapped in plain cardboard. To me the package is the presentation. People can't always set for two hours to evaluate a film. They have to gather info from the cover, and if the cver looks like shit or cheap they aren't going to give the film the time of day. This is marketing and you want to sell the idea to your customers upon first glance and you do that with a good presentation. Slipcovers are shony and flashy for a reason lol. Now would I rebuy something for the cover only in extreme cases. But the people who are doing this are supporting these films so I say buy buy buy.

On the upside, it proves that the economy can't be that bad because there are people with more money than they know what to do with and it also helps support the BD industry.

I don't know how big the "slipcover cultists" phenomenon is, but I'm surprised the studios don't take advantage of it by doing what some paperback publishers have been doing: putting out the same book/disc with different covers (or differently colored covers).

I am one who appreciates nice packaging and art, but I have never considered slipcovers "nice packaging".

A slipcover is almost always redundant with the information actually printed on the jacket.

People want the movie, not the package.

As I said, too many threads derailed by slipcover talk.

Except that the slipcover almost always has the same images/info and is about the same size as the original cover, so it's kind of pointless. Although I think most of the people who say they "rebuy" the movie for the slipcover actually just buy it, keep the slipcover, then return the movie still shrinkwrapped, so they're not actually spending twice the money. It's a bit obsessive, but who cares? In their defense, there have been people in this thread who have said they plan to buy the complete saga and the separate trilogies just so they can say they've owned every set. To me that's just as obsessive, if not more. And trust me, we all do stuff like that once in awhile.

For the most part that's true but there are exceptions.

Let Me In and The Dark Knight had pretty cool slips.

Wow ... I bought the movie because it was Star Wars: The Clone Wars ... I was simply commenting that someone had a different release than I even knew existed and now I'm part of some kind of cult. Even if the slipcover was my only reason to purchase the blu I believe that that is my buisness and no one else. Some people are "so uncivilizied..."

I'd actually call that "theft", since you'd be keeping part of the retail presentation after returning the shrinkwrapped film. Until you purchase - and keep - the film, none of it belongs to you, even the packagaing. Now, if an individual offers to give away or sell their own slipcover, which they paid for and kept, that's a different story.

My fantasy ultimate set:

The original versions of the first three films
4K scans
Original stereo mixes losslessly encoded
Digibook packaging with the original US poster art

That's it. I don't need extras or anything else. I would pay more than I paid for the definitive laserdisc box set almost 20 years ago.

I just hope the colour timing is fixed more than anything, because a worrying aspect is that, on the Blu-ray trailer, they used the 2004 transfer which is horrible.

Of course, since the 2004 version of the film was, apparently, only scanned in at 1080p, they could have simply used that same footage for the trailer, as its common for many film trailers to use older footage for promoting new releases.

I want the film looking how I saw it at the cinema, not dark 'bluey'.
