Well, we've seen most of them for the Prequels. But as for the OT?

A New Hope - Basically all of the Luke on Tatooine stuff. Even though we've seen it.

Empire Strikes Back - Wampas Vs. Snowtroopers. My most anticipated deleted scene.

Return Of The Jedi - Moff Jerjerrod and the Emperor's Guards barring Vader entrance to the Emperor's Throne Room.
And ending up on the receiving end of getting force choked.

At this point it's all speculation, since the only cut scene that's been confirmed is the Vader & Luke telepathy/Luke constructs lightsabre scene from Return of the Jedi. What I'd like to see are the deleted scenes from A New Hope (Luke at the vaporator, reunion with Biggs at Anchorhead, reunion with Biggs on Yavin IV restoring excised dialog where Red Leader mentions having met Luke's father when he was a boy). I have a passing interest in the ESB cut scenes and it's my understanding that the sandstorm footage from Jedi is unwatchable. Seen all of the cut scenes from the Prequels that I care to.

I'm just glad I only had to pay LESS THAN $50 for my Complete Saga set (TY Barnes/Noble 50% OFF Coupon!), & have the patience to wait til' Sept.

I only read the last 3-4 pages & was literally --- It's just nuts what Inane things get argued about.

ANYWAY, with the Extended LOTR Trilogy coming out next month (which I also paid UNDER $50 for ), there's plenty of opportunies to pass the time. I was 12 or 13 in 1977 & can't recall how many times I saw STAR WARS, or if it was even More than Once (?? ). I do have the Trilogy on DVD which I haven't watched in forever, though I'm afraid to at this point (knowing that the PQ & AQ would be Barely ok to get thru).

I have ZERO worries or concerns about these having Reference Quality AUDIO (6.1) & VIDEO.

Good luck with the PJ upgrade. Just imagine the Iconic music from John Williams playing in Your Home Theater with your incredible system. Talk about a factor ! You ever thought about charging admission?

Yes prints were cleaned up. But many people have cited sources even in these threads about the condition of the negatives.

And I think you may understimating the costs of making a quality release from the prints. Especially when you consider that GL is a perfectionist. And let's face it because he is a perfectionist it would take a large profit margin for him to let go of them for home release. Since he was never satisfied wiht them. Which is shown by his own words and his constant tweaking.

There are a number of ways that the films could be restored or cleaned up. A different print could be used and has been offered. The missing/altered scenes could be scanned into the computer from another print and digitally restored and combined with the SE scan they already have. They could use an IP or separation masters. There are many ways available to them. On top of that, GL did not pay for the last restoration, 20th Century Fox did. They would likely do it for the theatricals as well since they would profit from them as they would be handling the distribution.

I agree that GL's constant tweaking of the films proves him to be a perfectionist, whether those changes hurt or help the films is another matter open to opinion. On the other hand, I don't know if I'd go as far to say that the quality of the theatrical negatives and his being a perfectionist would relate to whether he would release them. His perfectionism in terms of his inability to leave the films alone is obvious. Yet, when you look at Lucasfilm DVD releases, that perfectionism has not always been obvious.

Consider the Episode I DVD we've had all these years. Released with a transfer riddled with edge enhancement and softness. The 2004 OT DVD set had an overly dark transfer compared to any previous home video release, a blue cast over the films, botched lightsabers, reversed surrounds in SW(ANH)and missing/suppressed musical cues in SW(ANH). The 2006 DVD release of the theatricals used the same transfer from the 1993 Definitive Collection LD set. A grainy, window-boxed picture on your widescreen TV. Although, that last one was slyly intentional, I believe. The 2011 BD release is leaving off number 4 of the four original OT docs, "From Star Wars to Jedi", while including the other three, and is also leaving off the 2004 "Empire of Dreams", yet giving us almost four hours of fluff on stormtroopered fans, spoofs, and a ported History Channel doc with scientists pontificating about the technology of Star Wars. A nice tenth disc, separate release, or store exclusive, but at the expense of the above-mentioned documentaries? Six years since the last film and not even a nice documentary on all six films?

I just don't think that his perfectionism has carried over to DVD releases of Star Wars home video product, with the exception of TPM's bonus DVD and the AOTC and ROTS DVD's, in my opinion. Based on that, I don't think his perfectionism would play a role in whether he would restore/release the theatricals. I think a "good enough" release would placate him. I think his decision would be based solely on sales revenue projections/profitability, as you already pointed out, and whether or not his philosophical reasons for their absence will ever change.

He has wavered a little in recent times. Years ago, we got the ridiculous quotes of calling them "rough drafts" or their being "on VHS if anyone wants them" and the callous "I'm sorry if you fell in love with half a movie". Last fall, he mentioned nothing other than the restoration being "very expensive". From "artistic reasons" to "cost". The article below gives me a glimmer of hope, especially the last paragraph. It may not produce anything, but it's the best attitude I've seen him display toward the theatricals for years. Although "best attitude" is relative.

That was a good link. In fact that last paragraph

"“We’ve been working on them for quite a while,” Mr. Lucas said, “but still, there are pipelines. Unfortunately, the recent releases get priority over what we call the classic versions of things.”"

That is another conderation is release schedules. Given that BD is brining in new releases as well as conversions of classics that have been released on DVD. The studios only have certain windows in which they can be released. the last thing they want is a situation where they are competing "with themselves". They will want to staggar the big releases. Not to mention the physicical resources required to produce the discs and packaging. Those are not infinite.

Besides, given the hype that threads like these create I bet GL will make more money by releasing the UOT later as a special limited edition collectors set lol.

I am sure it will come out, the only quesion is when.

Good points. Release schedules are definitely a factor. From a strictly business point-of-view, I think he would be making a mistake to release the UOT at the same time. A separate collector's edition at a different time would do much better in terms of raw sales numbers as it wouldn't have to compete with the new box set in September and could be used down the road to (re)generate interest in Star Wars on home video. From a film/Star Wars fan perspective, can I have them tomorrow?

I actually feel that we'll eventually see them released too.

LOL I hear ya, I would like them now.

But let's face it, GL is good at looking at things form the business point of view when it comes to the SW franchise. :P

he's already made money hand over fist because of this cash cow....it's about time he gave the fans what they wanted as a bone on top of the versions that he wants out...

and I'm all about a movie being a director's artistic point of view, I'm just saying from the standpoint of being quadruple dipped at this point and he knows this is going to sell like crazy, so he'll just come with the UOT after everyone buys what comes out this year...

there's a business standpoint and then there's....well, a business standpoint is the PC term for greedy and people look at that as smart nowadays which is sad...or they are just giving someone an excuse..

and this is coming from someone who has seen the OT countless times and never even owned any of them until this upcoming September....right is right and wrong is wrong...but people will still eat it up, so whatever...

I loved these little featurettes on the VHS SE's, I was hoping we'd get an updated version for the DVD's in '04 (it was a shame they weren't included on the DVD's as well) but alas.... Hopefully we'll get something on the BD's which highlights the changes made.
