Umm, it doesn't. Nobody has been speculating that the UOT might be included in this set. That ship sailed months ago.

People new to the thread will pop in from time to time to ask whether it's included but that's about it.

The complete 2 disc score for ROTJ contains music that would have covered this scene (from 5:16 to 6:43)

This music takes place between the music for Vaders announcement that the Emperor will be arriving to oversee the construction of the Death Star, to C3PO and R2D2 arriving to Jabba's palace.

Music existing to cover the lightsaber construction scene means that the scene was cut from the movie very late in post-production (most deleted scenes are cut early enough that no music is composed, let alone recorded for them).

This leads me to believe that the scene was indeed shot in 1982 and that Mark Hamil simply doesn't remember it.

It may have been shot in 82 but that was not Mark Hamill

Even if that wasn't Mark Hamil, how does that make the scene "bogus"? And how do we know that Hamil just doesn't remember shooting that scene? It's not feasible that he doesn't remember every single thing he shot, including scenes that didn't end up in the movie, 30 years later?

because I have a feeling that it was not shot in 1982 but much much later. At this point I would not put anything past Lucas. He has lied, flip floped in interviews for far too long to be believable in my book. But that is just my opinion and a hunch I have that the scene was created not that long ago.

And yes I think he would remember being in a cave with a hood on working on a lightsaber. Jeez...

I don't know. Could it be possible that Mark Hamill just forgot filming that scene? To me, that looks like him in the cave. Look at the strong dimple in the center of the chin on his face. Now look at some of the You Tube interviews when he was slightly younger than the one you posted. You can see the same strong indentation. Obviously, they could have used a double with the same feature, but to me, that looks like him.

He has so many questions asked of him and he's had to repeat the same stories over and over again for 30+ years. He could have just forgotten that scene. They film so much that never makes the final cut anyway. It would have to be difficult to remember every sequence shot.

Exactly. That was confirmed last fall. They've always made it clear that we were getting the 2004 versions with any additional updates.

So you're suggesting John Williams composed music in 1982 for a scene that didn't exist until just recently?

I have no idea what Lucas has done. I said it was a hunch and when it came out that there was this really cool scene that Mark Hamill has no recollection of it? I have no idea if it was or was not shot in 82 but I am willing to give the actor in the scene the benefit of the doubt. Much more than I am willing to give George when it comes to honesty. I personally wouldn't put it past George to do or say anything at this point with his track record. And the reason this was even brought up was because Lucas has said it was Hamill then Mark basically said..."Hey that was not me" Might have been something done in post production but it was NOT me.

Of course, you'd remember it. Because to you, it would be a unique, cool experience.

Good ol' Mark spent years of his life, in various caves, deserts, and backlot sets working with all manner of props. Unique and cool left town long ago on this sort of thing for him.

You're expecting him to have total recall of each one of those moments, including one brief one that didn't even make the film? That's probably just a few hours of his life, from almost 30 years ago. Come on.

It's assumed that you like and care for the 6 movies - why else would you bother to wait for them to be released on Blu-Ray?

Isn't it plainly obvious to you why someone, in the situation you describe, would still buy the Blu-ray set? It should be. Some want all six. Some are buying it for the OT on Blu-ray and for the bonus features. They can't get the bonus features without purchasing the entire set. Most of those who prefer the theatrical versions are also realists. They want the UOT in HD but they realize that only the "2011 versions" are available right now and the newest versions are a hell of a lot better than no versions at all.

Since they like 3 of the 6 films and want the bonus features, that would mean that they want "most" of the stuff on the set. Most meaning over half of it. Some like all six. Some like five. Some like four. Some just like the OT. It doesn't make them less of a fan. I can't believe this incredibly nerdy and dweeby "true fan" nonsense is coming up again.

This is not directed at you personally, but not everyone is some kind of sycophantic, apologetic, mindless drone that will like everything because it says "Star Wars", "Star Trek", "Indiana Jones", etc. Tastes and opinions vary. Your "fandom" is not measured by the amount of material in the franchise that you enjoy. Normal, mentally well-adjusted individuals have minds of their own and have the intelligence and educational background to not leave reasonable and objective criticism at the door because of their love for a franchise.

Maybe not many know this, but Star Wars was not based on true story, it's fiction. The story evolves as we go from one episode to another, some things will change. Lucas was not lying about the movies because the story was never fact. It was "true" at the time of the inteviews years ago, he didn't lie then he didn't lie now. Remember it took more than 30 years from the time he started writing to the day Episode III was released.

I would definitely remember being in a cave and working on a lightsaber and I would have absolutely had a hood on.

Lucas? Lucas didn't compose the music for the movie. He also didn't produce the soundtrack, or write the liner notes in 1997 that perfectly describe the lightsaber construction scene and how the music would have fit the scene.

I understand you hate Lucas and think he's a liar as you state so in every other post, but I'm talking about music that John Williams composed for a scene that existed in 1982. Do you hate Lucas so much that you can't even acknowledge the possibility that Hamil's recollection might be incorrect given the musical evidence that he is?

They shouldnt, he should have tailored his "new" films to fit what has existed for 20 years instead of just shooting on a whim then going back and changing things to "fit" a much inferior product.

And the music proves that scene was filmed in in 1982? It's conclusive without a shadow of a doubt? You are 100% positive on this? You seem to be the musical expert so I am asking you that there is no doubt in your mind that the scene that was offered up was in the film in 1982/83?

Like it or not, Fox will get the most sold set for a second year in a raw. Last year the King (the Queen leave it inside the movies) was the Alien Anthology, one of my most treasured BDs set, I just love it. And they will do it again this year with the Star Wars set. I sure love the movies but if the presentation is like the Alien pack then I'm in good luck.

I believe it does. Look, I'm not a huge Lucas fan by any means. But I also think this scene was slapped together. I mean...listen to Vader's dialogue. It's clips from other scenes.
I fully expect people to turn the brightness up once we get this set and see if any of mark's face can actually be viewed.

Maybe I'm missing something in your point, but if music was composed and recorded in 1982 for this specific scene, and the liner notes were written in 1997 for the 2 disc complete soundtrack release describing the scene for which the music was written, then what other conclusion is there other than the scene existed in 1982?

Perhaps it was shot with Hamil's stand-in (which is done all the time in every movie) and maybe that's why he says he didn't shoot it, but that doesn't mean the scene itself didn't exist in 1982.
