I might do this as well. As a semi-Star Wars collector I wouldn't mind having a a backup, or a set to loan to friends who will be after my Complete Saga edition come September.

I've wanted to complete get the 2008 DVD box sets and the 2004 set as well, but maybe I'll do that once the blu-rays hit and the DVD prices drop. Lately I've been trying to buy all of the VHS sets ![]() in just under 2 weeks, I've been able to get the 4 "main" trilogy box sets, TPM widescreen set and one of the Star Wars Droids cartoons (along with some other single cassettes). Unfortunately almost everything is in Pan & Scan. Now I have to start looking for Laserdiscs and Widescreen VHS. The only thing with the blu-ray is that in this case, the only difference is the packaging. With VHS and Laserdisc each wave of releases came with it's own special features. But then again, until 2005 there was no Complete Saga and most people had moved on to DVD by then... It's going to be fun tracking down Revenge of the Sith on VHS :P |

Now i was thinking about the deleted scenes. Now they are probably going to include the PT ones that were seen on the DVDs, plus a few others, but what really interests me is what we are going to get for the OT. Now we know that the Wampa base attack, the bunker shootout, B-Wing pilot, saber construction, treadwell scene and the sandstorm scenes are all going to be included. There are also the Biggs scenes that have already been seen and most probably will be included. But what about the others? Now ANH has a wealth of cut and alternate scenes thanks to the fact that there is a whole different cut of the film known as "the lost cut". Some of these scenes were seen in the holiday special. Now we know that originally the film was cut so that Luke made 2 trench runs during the death star battle. There is also a scene straight after the falcon escapes the death star where the heroes celebrate after exiting the gun turrets. Also more mos Eisley shots, Leias reaction after Alderaan is destroyed, longer cut of the cantina, Han & co casually walking through the death star, Luke & 3PO looking for R2, Luke deciding not to replace 3Pos restraining bolt in Bens hut and a lot more. Now we know all these shots were filmed so there is a wealth of stuff to choose from here. But what about ESB & ROTJ? ESB: Originally when they hear the probe droid signal in the control room on Hoth they hear a communication from one of the outposts, hear the probe droid, which then destroys the outpost. We know this is the way it was originally filmed because of their reactions. This was only changed during sound editing. As has been already mentioned, there were more outside shots in cloud city, most notably a shot where the heroes are heading to the dinner with Lando and they walk across a bridge to the main building. Pictures of this have been seen against a blue screen, but the effects were never finished. Also Hans torture was longer and more intense, but was cut because it was a little too graphic for the audience. Then there is general Veers death as the speeder flies into the AT-AT cockpit. Now this scene was filmed but the shots reused for ones during the battle ( Veers looking from behind the periscope, the head exploding and the walker falling after head explodes). There was also extra footage of the AT-ST where you see if from a speeders cockpit as it flies over it , that was filmed but it had to be scrapped because the background scenery slipped slightly while doing the stop motion but wasn't spotted until after it was completed. A whole scene where Luke walks through the battlefield back to the transports, before he sees the falcon fly off was also filmed and pictures are out there. 3po ripping off the sign where the Wampas are being held and the Snowtroopers heading in there and being attacked is another. Leia and han's kiss on Bespin (seen in EOD) ROTJ: (apart from the ones we have seen) there is the scene where vader goes to see the Emperor but is stopped by Jerjerrod. Now shots of this scene exist but it is uncertain whether Vader strangles him, One of the Red guards electrocutes him with the stick or both. as shots suggest both of these things happen. Luke jumping up to the grill, jawa stomping on his hand and him falling during the Rancor scene. A scene aboard the barge with 3PO stopping an argument. The falcons gunner during the endor battle. Now we know this one might just end up on the Blu-Ray because they are releasing this characters action figure: http://www.galactichunter.com/gh/sto...gures-revealed General Madine commanding the mon calamari cruiser and then there is ben's extended dialogue on Dagobah. But not much else is known about what was cut from jedi so anything else will be a nice surprise. One thing that would have been a great extra feature on this set, instead of such a long spoofs doc and others, would have been the "Revenge of the Ewok" mini movie. They showed part of it on the Hyperspace site and the full version can be found in low quality on youtube. Surely something like this would have been much better than just sticking on stuff that we have already seen |

I haven't liked any of the Star Wars video artwork since the 90s, though. All of the DVDs have been ugly photoshop. Give me those great original posters! |

The DVDs are being discontinued. Some stores may still have some in stock, but once they are gone they are gone. Many of them (including that 2008 OT box set), are no longer available directly from Amazon, and the 3rd party seller prices are going way up. If you really want them that badly, I suggest you get them ASAP when/if you find them in a store at a normal price.
