Well... I could hold out no longer and finally pulled the trigger on a Stout Kill Bill... naturally I went all in and grabbed the variant. Still waiting on the Captain America and then I will be waiting a long time for framing as I want to frame all 3... and all 3 I want triple matted like my other 2 framed prints I have. I'm not quite sure which one of you to blame for this hobby, but I need to blame one of you before my wife leaves me

No, they must have just posted that because I've been checking for it every other day hoping it would come out at their normal new release price in the $25 range, I'm sorry, but I'm out for $100. Time to PM Kinsella!

BTW this isn't a rant just because I didn't get a poster and I'm crying, I just think it's a shame for the people that like a certain movie and want to buy a poster that they are denied because of money grubbing c*@#s but hey who am I to judge they are making money hand over fist.
You aren't alone in your feelings... I posted similar sentiments recently, it is frustrating indeed, I understand supply and demand so I try not to begrudge others of making money... I just would rather the money go back to the artists personally, you know, the people who actually do are the hard work, rather than the people with a quick finger.

Though I am no where near Austin Texas and will never be able to attend a Mondo Mystery Movie night, I do like what they are doing with the next one which is giving a poster to everyone in attendance... I think that is a cool idea.

Art always appreciates in value for the most part, why not buy it enjoy it in your house for a few years at least, then sell it. Not buy it and hock it on ebay a week later just because you heard people pay up the butt for a certain artist work.

I thought about going for the Dream Warriors but I'm done with Mondo. I'm tired of dealing with the nonsense and playing games for a $40 poster. And then I'm supposed to what, buy posters I don't want so I can trade it for one I'm after later on. Screw it. Mondo is creating a bunch of douchebag money hungry animals with their "limited edition art posters". I'll still be going for the stuff Cinema Overdrive and other small groups put out though.

Oh and they're all about the art and artist. Look how much loot has been given to Ebay/Paypal over the last year in fees. If you add it up it's probably more than the artists received in compensation.

Here's another one I did for fun. CONSUME CONSUME CONSUME....

I do love the posters though and without Mondo I wouldn't have so many cool ones. But hey if it never existed I'd have never known it, and never miss it.

I am surprised Paramount hasn't released a Mission Impossible 4 poster yet. I am anxious to see what it looks like as I love the Mission Impossible movies...

Badz, sorry I didn't see your original post. What you need to first understand is MovieGoods, who also sell under the names MoviePosterShop and PopCultureGraphics are selling reproductions, not originals. That LOTR poster is nothing more than a reproduction they are producing, so what you are buying has no collectible value, and more than likely not even a licensed reprint either. You could probably do better finding a reproduction from a site such as AllPosters.com and having it framed yourself. Just be very careful out there as there are a lot of reprints and fakes of movie posters being sold by some dealers who don't like to inform their customers (or potential customers) that what they are buying is a reproduction.

Yes, just been awful about updating everyone. I was shocked to see MoviePoster.com charging $100 for the Dark Knight Rises teaser already. Wow! I guess if people want to spend that much they can go that route. Eventually it will probably be that or higher, but I don't feel now is that time, however, as time passes, supplies won't keep up with demand, and prices will slowly trickle up. By the way those look great framed, thanks again!

Mondo just needs to raise the prices of their posters and make as many as customers are willing to buy over a certain time period. Maybe a day instead of 22 seconds.
Personally I felt Stout's Star Wars prints blew the Moss ones out of the water, but Moss did do a great job. If Mondo raises their prices, people will complain. In fact, every way you look at it, there will always be someone who isn't happy with how they are doing things. The thing is Mondo has gotten really big, really fast, and while I feel they are doing a great job, and am happy for their success, they should catch their breath a little. Remember to sign up to their newsletter so you get the notification a day early as to when/what is going on sale, but then on release day, its all a "random time" but in 95% of the cases the drops always occur before 10:30am pacific time.

With the larger of the two, you could see the banding that appears sometimes when you print solid colors from an inkjet printer. With the other poster, they didn't even bother trimming off the large white border at the bottom that was another dead giveaway that it was produced using a computer printer and not a printing press.
Trust me, that's just the tip of the iceberg. They have been known to make double-sided reproductions, and also take images from collector's websites, and then make prints/posters of those images. I had read how a collector had his personal collection on a website, and had a watermark he added to each image. Not long ago, MG was selling a poster of one of his from his collection, and it even included the watermark too! How low can a dealer go with tactics like this? Pretty low.....

With that said, I'm also not in a position to start spending $150+ for original prints + framing afterword, so right now budget will also play a large roll in my poster purchasing.

Thank you again.
Badz, I would say $150 would be if you went down the route to have an original movie poster professionally framed. That HP Deathly Hallows Part 2 poster you were referring to was known as the advance style "A" and you can get a poorly done reproduction from sites like MovieGoods for about $30, or you can get the original authentic double-sided one for about the same price elsewhere. You then can get a 27x40 frame from Michaels Arts & Crats or Aaron Brothers Framing for around $30 (or cheaper if you check the Sunday newspaper ads since they often have coupons for 40% off an item, frames included). So then you could only be into your purchase $30 plus shipping for the poster, and about $20 for the frame, which is about 1/3 of the price you thought it would cost. Trust me if you have time, re-read this thread, there is a lot of "helpful" information through out.

$23 for that poster is actually a very fair price. Remember original authentic movie posters aren't made for public distribution, only for movie theaters as they are promotional items not intended to be sold, so unlike comic books, or baseball cards, you can't just walk into a store and buy one. If you really want originals its best to go through a poster dealer that specializes in originals...cough cough. The problem with eBay is 95% of the people selling posters on there simply either work at a theater or know someone who does and they take one or two and sell them, but in most cases have no idea what they are selling and often times misrepresent the condition of the poster. When theaters generally get posters in, a lot of the times they are loosely tossed into a tube with no protection against damage during transit, again because they aren't intended to be sold but to be placed in a lighted frame inside a theater. Mint unused ones do exist, again you need to find a dealer that specializes in that. But condition is key, as is packaging, and if the poster isn't properly packaged up, it can suffer damage, etc.

My guess is they got in a very small amount of them, and are unable to get more, and that is why they have such a high price on them. But then again, they are also selling a different Dark Knight Rises poster as "unofficial artwork" perhaps not understanding that what they call "unofficial" anyone else calls "fan made" and that is not something they should be selling. It's boggles the mind when I see fellow dealers selling fan made stuff.

Congrats, just remember do NOT drymount them, make sure when you frame them that the framer understands to have them loose between the glass and the backing of the frame. Drymounting will destroy the value, and make sure to use an acid-free backing on something as rare as that.
