Simply dreadful.
I disagree. I think their performances fit very well, within the setting and circumstances of the films. Besides, standard "Hollywood fare" has become notorious for showing romantic relationships as carnal, sex-drenched, lust-fests, with two people who care more about selfishly using one another, more than having true intimacy. Lucas deliberately chose to keep Padme and Anakin's emotional journey much more subtle, and I think it worked. Their most brazen moment in the whole trilogy is probably the "fireside confession" in Episode II, which doesn't really delve into any kind of radical territory. He tells her that his feelings for her are haunting him, as if she were in his soul. That's not something you'd hear a lot of people say in everyday society, which is why it works. They're in a huge time of war, only able to completely trust each other, until Anakin's desperation turns to greed. I like the way the novel of "Sith puts it, near the end...

"You killed her because when you could have saved her, when you could have run away with her, when you could have been thinking about her...you were thinking of yourself. And it is now you realize the true nature of the Sith: that now yourself is all you ever have. Deep inside, you burn in your own flame. This is what it's like to be Anakin Skywalker, forever..."

I can't believe you guys are ganging up on someone for loving Star Wars movies in a Star Wars thread. Is it really necessary for everyone to despise the prequels?

I think some fans won't be happy until the prequels stop existing.

I don't care what anyone says the novel for Revenge of the Sith is probably the best Star Wars has ever been for me. The character insights and story were told in such a fascinating way. Being based off an early script it is also different enough to be enjoyed as a seperate entity from the movie. Had the film Revenge of the Sith turned out as good as that novel it would easily be my favorite film. Moviefan's quote from the novel got me thinking about that. The prequels had great stories to tell. There execution was just flawed in some places. This is why I still enjoy them. I like the story.

Yeah, because the prequels are mediocre at best compared to the original trilogy. The dialogue is stiff. The acting is bad. It's a clear case of style over substance when looking at the prequels.

If you see it any other way, it's because you're drinking the kool-aid pretty hard core. It's fine to be a fan...I would consider myself one. But as a whole, the prequels are bad.

I can't wait until there's some decent news about this release again.

This thread is now just a parade of general SW chatter.

Not that's there's anything wrong with that!
