Going to watch Jedi first and then The Phantom Menace, A New Hope, Empire and then Sith (ADHD at its best). I don't find ATOC enjoyable at all, but it will make an excellent beer coaster I am certain.

Jedi and The Phantom Menace are the two I am most concerned about. The botched lightsaber crossing in front of the Emperor (appears fixed!) and the horrible transfer of TPM (also fixed!) have killed the dvds for me. So, they are the two I am most anxious to see. Not to mention, they flow very similar in narrative.

Now, all this talk about a new Yoda in TPM and replacing Hayden's head on Sebastain Shaw has me wondering if they will put Sam Jackson's head on his 'fill in' at the end of TPM. NOW that is a small change I think would be worthwhile. Dude doesn't look ANYTHING like Sam Jackson...lol

To all saying it's not a big deal - It's a Blu-Ray Disc forum and WE DO CARE about the quality. People who are saying there are no problems, are like those, who say there is no difference between DVD and BD. Trust me, such people do exist.

I had to say this, because if you only want to enjoy the film, you are in the wrong place. This release is only about the quality, nothing else. That's why they made BD.

Seeing how so many people have their own favorites, I could just buy the complete set, keep episodes 4 & 5, and sell off the rest piecemeal on ebay. I bet you could sell just the extras discs for $25 each.

The rules of gravity and life support don't apply to the Star Wars universe. I think we see pilots ejecting in Episode III and they don't have a life support suits on.
But weren't they in low orbit or something?

Anyways I don't like the generlization that people who did not care about the issues with the DVD are the same people who say DVD is good enough I for one thought the DVDs were good at the time, I still do, but I do not ever think DVD is as good as Blu Ray ever. I even asked SEVERAL times to no response if the errors were only noticable on big hd tv's because I have always viewed them on smaller sets and sd tv's but this week I did skim through on my laptop and some of the errors people talked about became more apparent tome but I consider them minor because yes I want good picture quality but to me that means crystal clear image, as long as it looks clear and shiny and all the details are present I am ok with that, I could care less if tiny color flaws exist or not because those issues do not hurt the films that much for me anyways. Yeah I noticed the tinting on thelightsabers but it is not thorughout it is shots here and there so it is annoying yes but not distracting. As for Hoth, I thought it look ok I never noticed the blue tinting it looks pretty good to me from what I saw. The only issue I ever had was in Star Wars where they are on the Falcon and Lukes saber is all over the place, fix that at least and I could care less about the other saber shots.

They were, I went to take a look at the DVD and the commentary was still on and they mentioned that. So those Clone Troopers are a lot shorter than they used to be.

One postive thing about the Blu-rays is: Universal ain't doing them....

I am confused why people are getting excited about shots of lightsabers with the same exact coloring and effects as seen in the 2004 DVDs. The footage just leaked of Vader and Luke on Bespin always looked fine on DVD and didn't need "fixing." It's been pretty much confirmed that only select shots of lightsabers, such as the infamous saber crossing from RotJ, have been fixed. The lightsabers have not been updated or worked on extensively at all, not that there is anything wrong with that. But let's be real with ourselves and with the evidence provided.

The 'Luke and Vader Begin Their Duel On' picture below Episode V, shows Vader's lightsaber being pinkish.

The pink lightsabre only demonstrates the problem with the color timing. It's not that the pink lightsabre is the biggest problem (well it is certainly a small problem, because in the prequels the lightsabres are all red and really beatiful), but it is the whole color settings, which caused the problems.

Adywan made a great experiment (it took him a few seconds), he changes magenta settings in the picture and received a red lighsabre. That says all about quality control at Lucasfilm and ILM. It is so easy.

Sure I'm not completely happy with it either, but it doesn't bother me that much.

And I am not against the complaining itself here, you missed my point, or probably I should have made my earlier post clearer. I am just amused that people complain/judge the movie because of a screenshot and can't wait for the actual release.
Sad, that you can't distinguish between haters and people who care and want the films to be presented in the best possible quality. Expressing the problems on forums, cause the film studios to do something. I saw it already a few times. The problem is, people who are passionated about films, quality and so on, can't express their opinions, because immediately they are called haters and so on. I'm surprised, I wasn't called a hater, although I like the prequels and SE (but I also want OUT to be released). I just can't stand poor job from companies, especially when it comes from a company like Lucasfilm. Maybe a pink lightsabre is not a big deal, but excessive color saturation and crushed blacks are. Look at 97 release of SW and you will notice what I'm talking about. I noticed it many years ago, altough I had no clue about technical aspect of the film back then. And as I said before, I don't care about rosa tint (just like in LOTR release).

And I just can't stand, when we are discussing the problems with SW releases and people come and say "I don't see anything wrong, so there are no problems. You guys are all haters". And so on.

They ejected? I was always under the impression that their ship exploded, while their lifeless/dying bodies drifting off with the rest of the debris.

Totally agree.

It's like if you don't say something full of praise round here, you are then shamed into being some kind of hater. Why can't people take constructive criticism about technical aspects of the movies? Nobody is coming here to just moan for the sake of it - we're all discussing the blu-rays and the pros and cons of this release - what's wrong with that?

And yes, it does seem lazy that if all ILM are doing are altering one or two shots for the lightsabers and not for others and still claiming it worthy of being finished/fixed from before.

The thing I don't understand about all this, is that certain things looked fine/better in the 1997 versions (colour wise) and now in fact look worse. Load up a ESB laserdisc from 1997 and you will see there are no pink lightsaber problems - or at least anywhere near the same issues as the 2004 hd master. It seems as though they went backwards in some ways with whatever they did to the 2004 transfer.

It's understandable some of you don't care/notice these problems with the transfers, but for those of us who remember it looking better in certain parts (not to mention how easy it easy for them to fix), it really does boggle the brain why some things look the way they are (still).

Anyway, it's still somewhat early to get a true grasp of what it will look like in blu-ray, but if the trailers/clips really are anything to go by then some of us understandably shouldn't get our hopes up too much.

And since the Episode I, I always watched these movies in English.
prequels had the french-canadian translation on dvd, and they kept the name as they are in english, so it's darth maul and not dark maul.

someone who is one with the force and gets it. the good part is once the blurays come out, only the haters will still be on here posting about what a crap release it was and how the original versions would have made it better. the rest of us will be busy watching the movies.

Hey guys I found these awesome threads to discuss anything related to the Star Wars universe aside from the actual blu-rays coming out.

https://forum.blu-ray.com/movies/172...ispensers.html

https://forum.blu-ray.com/movies/513...-versions.html

Wouldn't it be nice to keep this thread strictly on topic. And I'll be the first to admit I've been guilty as well.

I think it's worse between ANH and TESB/ROTJ than PT/OT

For the PT/OT, the only changes are:
Darth Vader/Dark Vador
C-3PO/Z-6PO
la guerre des clones/ la guerre noire

but for ANH vs. TESB/ROTJ:
Chiktaba/Chewbacca - Chico/Chewie
Millenium Condor/Faucon Millenium
D2-R2/R2-D2
Jabba le forestier (TESB)/Jabba le Hutt (ROTJ)

and when you play the DVD in french, even the opening crawl use the name in english instead of the parisian french translation. For ANH, they even wrote Étoile de la Mort instead of Étoile Noire.

I wouldn't mind if eventually they redoo the dubbing using a french-canadian translation for the OT, like they did with The Exorcist back in 2000.

I don't understand the need for French (from France) to translate every word. Names aren't supposed to be translated. I remember seeing a french-canadian trailer for The fellowship of the Ring and Frodo was still Frodo, not Frodon.

Sorry to all english people that don't care for my language that must have read that post. I do watch movies in english sometimes, but wife and daughters not as good as me in english....

Wow, it's worse than I imagined!

Thank god my fiancee in fluent in English, so everything we watch is in the original language. I have some improvements to make, but I can listen a movie without any problem. The hardest thing for me right now is to speak or write in English (which I improved a lot since 4 years).

Sorry everyone, back on topic now!

The page 1138 of this thread is near! I'm sure we'll be able to score that before the release of Star Wars on Blu-rays!
