I believe it's because he was riding on the Boga. The glove was to protect his hand holding the reigns.

Also interesting note, it's believed that Obi-Wan's cry that scares off the Sand People in ANH was altered in order to more closely resemble the Boga's.

I always thought his "cry" was supposed to be a Krayt Dragon call ... an extinct beast from tatooine that the sand people still feared ... Maybe the boga and the kryt dragon have a similar ansestor lol ...

I also think it was a Krayt Dragon originally. Makes more sense to use the sound of Tatooine's most fearsome beast instead of the sound a transport animal on a far away planet to scare off Tusken Raiders..

That was the original In-Universe explaination. But Obi-Wan's cry was changed for the 2004 DVD release.

So it's possible they were going for him echoing the cry of the Boga instead. Since it does sound similar.
Makes me wonder if we'll get the original Cry or the new Cry. Or even a newer Cry for the Blu-Ray.

Also another interesting note:

"Boga" was the name of a soft drink found in Tunisia that the crew became familiar with during the filming of A New Hope.

The DVD version was likely changed to sound more like the Boga however this is changing once again for the Blu Ray. The new cry sounds starts out similar but then has this weird echo effect that lasts the full shot until the Sand People run away. They actually released this new version in some Sounds of Star Wars book (it had a little speaker on it). People have recorded it and synced it up with the video. It sounds overly processed to me but hopefully that's just a result of low sound quality from the book. We'll find out soon enough.

Similar to what he did with the Wookiees in ROTS, if I remember correctly.
I think if the whole film were animated, they would have looked great, even for the time. They move better in ROTS, but I think close up shots with live action actors would made them look better.

On the otherhand, the actors in the original Stormtrooper costumes seemed to have a rough time doing anything but standing around or marching. When it came to running and shooting, the suits just seemed bulky. Perhaps, in his mind, Lucas just wanted to avoid that. Of course, that isn't to say the suits couldn't have been re-invented with better materials to give actors more flexibility in their movements, but also I think he wanted to test his latest digital frontier.

Another thing I wonder about. Would real suits fit in with the digital surroundings? Or would it have been too obvious that they were real live actors in front of a blue screen? Which was one of my complaints for AOTC, that sometimes the actors clashed with their digital surroundings.

I always thought having all the Clone Troopers made of CGI was some kind of metaphor between CGI and cloning. But that might just be me....

it still leaves people curious about actual updates and discussion relevant to the blu-ray release out in the cold.

Very, very little of this thread is about the blu-ray release in particular. There could be a general "star wars: hyperbolic praise and complaints" thread.
Most movies it's fine because they don't generate 10 pages a day to sift through.

It's mind numbingly exhausting to read the circular and stale debates/arguments over and over again, hoping to see something about the actual release.

and to clarify also, no one has a "right" to to say anything here. Except the people that own the site/forum.

I probably missed someone, I apologize if I did.
yes, you do realize it's a message board at "blu-ray.com" right?
and in the Blu-ray section of that forum, not the general section right?

You do realize some people actulaly come to this site and this section to read about blu-rays right?

and that if we wanted to read 1000 pages of people bickering about George Lucas, we have no shortage of options for that on the internet right?

I would like people to stay on topic. I don't often see the need for such a request, as in most threads it can be a fun tangent. This thread is now 1067 pages long.

If someone, maybe a moderator can point me to another website or forum with a thread just about the blu-ray release, I'd appreciate it. I've obviously mistaken this for being that place.

Post Prod has a point. We're not going to change anyone's opinion with our own.

I'm sure we'll have oodles to discuss and debate when the Blus are actually released.

So why don't we table this tangent a bit for now and return to discussing the release.

I wonder what other websites are going to be posting info. we know 10 groups were invited.

It was either in the post of HTF or Bill Hunt's report that there were international sites included in the 10 groups that were at the viewing. Therefore I am assuming we may never see all 10 reports on the presentation. Also, after reading the two big ones already posted I don't think there will be much more in the way of new or unique information from any other reports.

I was initially reluctant to buy Star Wars again, fourth time for the OT and second time for the PT, but after reading the early reviews I am ready to cough up my hard earned cash and do it all over again .

I'm not sure if this has been discussed somewhere in the 1000+ pages here, but do you guys think we can see the complete saga for less than 89.99 a bit closer to release? I have it pre-ordered at Amazon but I noticed that the 3 movie collections are both going for 39.99. Something extra coming with the Complete Saga justifying the extra 10 dollars?

The bonus features are only in the complete saga.

Uh... 2 discs of never-before-seen deleted scenes, tour of the Lucasfilm archives, etc.

1 disc of documentaries.

I never think we should pay extra for bonus content, but in this case it's $10 for three discs. Two discs of stuff we've never seen before. I can live with it.

In Canada, the Complete Saga is cheaper than buying the two Trilogies (isn't that the way it should be?)... Go figure

Who is doing that?

Yeah, your just adding to the mess you are complaining about... so....

Yes, I realize complaining about the mess in this thread adds to the mess. Much like when my parents would ask me to make time to clean my room I would say "I can't make time for it if you don't get off my back already, sheesh"

But for me, I actually came here to read about the blu-rays.
I don't have a passion to have a general debate on star wars.
Or read it. Over and over. and over. and over again. This is a general topic discussion in a niche thread.

I kept my mouth shut about for the first 1000 pages.

Once again, this is where I thought I would come to read about updates for the star wars blu-ray. at blu-ray.com, in the blu-ray forum, in the thread for the Sept 16 release of said blu-ray set.

Am I surprised that the majority of what's here is not about the set. No.

I simply thought, maybe there would be a few, just a few people here, who came for the same thing. Or maybe a few passionate (yet mature) fans that can concede there are other places to rehash the same star wars debates.

It happened in the LOTR thread. It's happened here.

I'm not trying to DEBATE you on this. I am simply trying to ask people to please stay on topic. I like this site and this forum and use it often.

and again if you can think of a place more appropriate to talk/read about the actual blu-ray release and avoid the "Is the animated stuff truly canon? Whats a TRUE Sw fan? ect ect".

I know I know, restraint, is a lot to ask when emotions are so high. Emotions about Star Wars.

Thanks for the fast reply. I was going to buy the full set regardless since I wanted them all in one box (and I like the cover art), and I don't mind paying 10 bucks for some special features I haven't seen before!
