What picture could actually do a movie justice? I don't understand screencaps. Aren't they basically limited to whatever your computer screen is?

Well unless the matte lines are only there for one frame... it's a pretty glaring issue on any display, regardless of the settings!

I mean in general. I don't know what the pic is supposed to be from and what format it is but in general if my computer screen is better then yours then wouldn't I get more out of a screenshot?

Notice the screengrabs at the bottom. That 3PO R2 shot has a nice layer of grain on it...or is that digital noise?
Nice to see one of the people who attended the event know something about Star Wars...

Speaking of the Clone Wars, did you know Matthew voices General Grevious? He also voiced the live-action version of the character as well as Bib Fortuna and Ody Mandrell in The Phantom Menace, and Magaloof and Seboca in Attack of the Clones. I should have asked him to do a quick Grevious impersonation for our group. If you're reading this, Matthew, you'll get that request next time.

I'm so excited after seeing some pics of the new Blu-ray packaging. Has anyone confirmed that this new packaging is correct? (see below). I want to know if this new packaging with the Blu-ray multi blu-ray packaging is correct. I hated the previous design where the Blu-ray "slid" into each page. Has anyone confirmed this new packaging?

perhaps if I were using an old CRT monitor (although it would win in terms of black level )...

We're not looking at the colours or anything though, just the presence of matte lines in this case. So anyone with a $100 LCD monitor or a $1000 monitor would be able to see them. Resolution wouldn't matter either.

Screenshots are very rarely intended to show overall video quality, more often than not they are just used to show improvements or changes. In this case, the absence of any improvement.

This is the UK packaging. Where have you been for the past month

Those of us in the US and Canada will get the book with disc slots. A la Alien

Lucafilms have been shipping the Alien Anthology-style cases out to reviewers and everything.

I think they want the OT but sort of perfected w/o matte lines and boxes?

Or not.....man I don't know.

I think some purists just want the OT HD warts and all.

The gamma has been pumped up really high on this shot. Surely this can't be representative of the Blu-Rays though. There are a few shots like the dianoga in the trash compactor that have had the gamma pumped up while others remain dark. But then you see the videos and they are no lighter than the 2004 versions, so it's highly unlikely that this asteroid shot will look like that on the blu-rays

Found this over at originaltrilogy.com. Curious.

I asked the shtv forum member who worked on the 04 transfers about the OCN:

Yes, 100% of the time. The OCNs were scanned by Post Group in Hollywood, and I did all the final color at IL+M in San Rafael in Building C (the old post building) on Kerner Blvd., using conformed 2K scans on a Quantel iQ, and a Pandora Platinum color corrector. This was from February-April of 2004.

We were using the 1999 version of the movie with some new fixes, so these were the revised effects versions from that time. Certain sequences were almost completely new, like the updated Jabba.

All I will say about the creative choices is that what you saw is exactly what the director specifically wanted. I was told several times that this was the first (and at that time, the only) video transfer Lucas had ever personally supervised.

So this means, if I'm reading correctly, that the 04 is in fact a 2K scan directly from the 97SE o-neg restoration. (I think he meant 97 instead of 99.)

Not convinced these shots are from the actual discs. We'll see.

That's good news. I always thought the whole "Headbutt" thing over in the UK was weird.

can't say I'm surprised that these bds have more changes.
it is what it is.
I'm getting the bd set, but will always treasure the crappy laserdisc port on the dvd more.
