I'm pretty sure I've identified a fix in Return of the Jedi from the Star Wars Aficionados videos.

Take a look at the rancors skin in this video @ 0.08 seconds, as he moves towards Luke:

Then take a look at the shot from the previous HD and DVD release. The skin is now more in focus and i've looked at it a dozen or so times on an A/B comparison, and I wouldn't be surprised if its been totally replaced. Thoughts?

I'm with you on that. Do you think they will impose the usual embargo that everyone breaks, and we get it Friday? Normally when a title is as big a release as this, it takes over a day to pack and send all of the pre-orders, so they tend to start way in advance. We may even get it sooner.

Only worry is a supermarket price war on day of release with BIG discounts available above and beyond the online price. Still, too late now, plus we are getting a cardboard film cell thingy which will bring literally milliseconds of joy

I think you're right. Even as a kid I though the original effect looked tame and the matting was obvious. After seeing the new video though, it looks brand new. An example of a good change!

HD vs SD, exactly the same skin just much clearer and defined. It is still the identical Phil Tippett puppet.

Good thing to use if someone ever doubts how Blu ray is superior to upscaled DVD though

I'm comparing it to the HD TS file and I'm still seeing the same difference.

Finally! They cleaned up the matte lines during this sequence. Looks great. Can't wait to own these in a few of weeks.

Still can't see it myself. Here is a capture from the clip you note, and then one from a youtube video (assume it is an older transfer as uploaded in 2008)

Sorry i don't have the proper DVD file, but at work!

Looks exactly the same, just in higher definition. Compare the Lukes.

I could definitely live without that. Rather than fit more or less seamlessly it would be the kind of change that fairly shouts 'look over here, behind the curtain, look at us...look at what we can do... this wasn't here before and now it is...isn't it cool'. And even if it actually is cool it's also distracting.

If they absolutely have to add The Imperial March to ANH maybe just hints when Vader announces the dissolution of the Imperial Senate. There it could at least blend in a bit less intrusively.

You can just tell from the Visualizer Clips that everything looks cleaner, more detailed than the DVDs. I mean, even at this small resolution, you can just tell immediately.

And, for the Original Trilogy, everything looks brighter...

Video-wise, the masters of the Classic Trilogy created for the 2004 DVD release served as the starting point, which is to say that the negatives were not rescanned using more modern telecine technology.
I'm pretty disappointed

Still not convinced these are from the blu-ray. Nothing on the site tells you they are. These appear to be what has been quoted at the preview event as pieces taken from the 1080p '04 digital file that will then be tweaked. A number of colour issues/matte lines seem to still be present that we are assured by all and sundry (Denis Muren for one) have been fixed for the '11 transfer.

Still, if they look this good when not the finished article, yippee

merlinpants,

The clip of the digital Yoda from Episode I has me convinced that these are from the Blu Rays, if not 100% completely done. They're a very close representation of what we'll get.

I posted late yesterday, so you would have to dig to find it, that some would quote that as being proof of Blu ray footage. That clip is the EXACT clip used in the 2008-2009 Star Wars A Musical Journey concert footage. It has been in existence for ages, and does not prove anything other than the fact Yoda has been inserted into the blu rays. Again, it would be prudent to assume the footage is from the 1080p digital files.

It needs a tweak anyhow as the opening shot is weird. He looks really obvious as he is not showing any orange tint as are the rest of the council.

Some posts that did not belong got moved to the other Star Wars thread, this is for the Blu-ray release not about how you love or hate the prequels.
