Here's another TPM comparison, this time between DVD (top) and screenshots from http://moments.starwars.com/visualizer (bottom):

The stars will be what I look for in pretty much all the shots. Are there stars? Because if there are stars in space, then they did the space exterior shots right for the first time since the 1990's on home video. Maybe longer, I don't know, I'm not that old. |

EDIT: If you see the white land area of the planet, it is overblown and and you can't see any detail. It is the equivalent of crushed blacks. Either it's too dull and the blacks are crushed while the whites don't appear white(there is a slight yellow tint) or it's way too bright and the shadows are lost while the whites are overblown and you can't see anything. I'll be happy with the second extreme as long as the whites aren't too far gone as then you can always reduce the gamma, etc at your end but if you do this with the first extreme you'll get 'illuminated'/grey blacks, you can't get back detail which isn't there(stars, for example). But yeah, I would say a lot of what we're seeing is still really inaccurate and our own sets and personal calibrations (whether those calibrations are correct or not) will probably make a big difference. |

Why do Blu Ray movies always look brighter than DVDs? It's definitely a good thing and seems consistent with all movies. Is MPEG-2 just that awful?

The O.T might look like this too. It is film after all and especially the lightsaber cross in Rotj is looking great. The reason you maybe feeling like this is because the TPM was really looking that bad on DVD. It's quite a huge leap.

Ok, this is my first post here on this thread. I read a lot of posts here and came to the conclusion that some of you are so used to watching blu-rays that you tend to forget what a DVD on a big TV screen looks like.
I am sure that the Star Wars BDs will look great on a big screen. I have no doubt about that ;-) |

Seems sort of along the lines of there's no reason for Obi-Wan or Yoda to mention him to Luke either. But as someone else said, I wish the scene planned for RotS was restored to the film. But it seems unlikely. |

Guys, I don't know about yous, but I am frickin' pumped for this release.
I haven't watched the original Star Wars Trilogy in nearly 10 years. And I just cant wait to get the Blu-Rays and just stick them on and enjoy them. I'm not an obsessive geek so I dont really care about the changes, but as long as it looks and sounds good, I'll be happy with my purchase. 2 weeks on Monday for us Brits. Hopefully we get a full review next week. No doubt Lucas will have some sort of embargo on the reviews though so we won't get to see them until it's too late and the films have been dispatched from the sellers. |

No new post in 90 minutes? Is the world at a end?
![]() Three weeks left, still planning to buy them in store on that Friday morning even if I will be paying more for them. For those of you that are pre-ordering, do you expect to have them in by Thursday? |
