Well...the saber is disappointing, but after watching the three film clips, I can say the PQ of these releases is astounding (and I can only imagine what it'll look like on my TV with my sound system blasting!)

I think as long as I can overlook things like the sabers, I'll be more than happy with this set. Still disappointing that they can't fix all the damn lightsabers though...so much for making it a "seamless saga"

Either way you look at it, the PQ IS really awesome. We all knew that we'd be getting fantastic PQ, at least we have that. That's what makes the jump to blu-ray, is it not?

They look identical to the HDTV versions with better resolved grain, I for one expect more than that.

You know what? I would have more respect for Lucasfilm if they just went balls-out and said "We're doing what we want. We're changing what we want. You're either going to like it or you're not." Don't string fans along. And don't be passive-aggressive about it.

That's exactly how I felt. This lightsaber sequence was screwy from my first viewing in '77 and I never cared if it got fixed. It was one of those "that looks crappy but oh well" kind of things. It doesn't take me out of the film and still doesn't. When they mentioned specifically fixing lightsabers last week and now we see this, that's what I find odd. IndyMLVC is right though. We should have known better than to trust a PR presentation. These people lie and spin all the time. It's their job. After all, she tried to tell the people at the presentation that DVD technology had screwed up the lightsabers in 2004 and blew out the cores. I've been skeptical about seeing many corrections from 2004 anyway.

I've never been one of those fans that cared about seeing "fixes" to the films. I never cared about some stupid lettering on the tractor beam control being in English instead of the "proper" language. I never cared about seeing rank badges fixed. I never cared about Vader's and Obi-Wan's sabers being fixed in ANH. I never cared about transparent speeders getting fixed. I never cared about ship models appearing and disappearing into thin air.

2004 was a little different though. For the first time in buying Star Wars releases, I had been sold a substandard product with flaws that had never been there before. On top of that, we were lied to and told these were "deliberate creative decisions" when anyone with an IQ above room temperature knew better. That made me more vigilant when it came to Lucasfilm and their home video releases. I now want and expect to see the flaws of 2004 fixed, including those pink lightsabers with the blown out cores.

Is the "blue fuzz" video noise still mucking up the Death Star explosion?

Any digital tweaks to Yoda in Empire?

Any digital tweaks to the Jabba and his Muppet Friends in ROTJ?

Inquiring minds want to know.

There's a difference between spinning things and outright lying though and it's called false advertising, which seems like an unnecessary mess to get yourself into.

I'm sure there were some (probably not that many) who decided to order the sets off the back of that press release. If I were one of those customers, I'd be pretty hacked off if it turns out not to be the case.

I'm hoping this is a fan boy storm of hyperbole that ends up being wide of the mark come release...

Unfortunately, it's the fan boys who would be the FIRST to be thrilled if these things were fixed. They're also the first to complain when they're not.

I wish they had been fixed. I just never expected it.

I'm including myself in the fanboy category here...

OK, perhaps baseless optimism here, what are the realistic possibilities concerning these rips...

Obviously, they are legit, what we will be seeing upon release and the LFL restoration press release was misleading to say the least.

Could they be well made fan-edits? It's hard to get past Wicket blinking and the new Krayt sound being mentioned over at MF.com...

Or, could they be WIP's that were ripped and leaked?

I doubt it. At this point, I'm *SURE* final discs are being pressed. It looks like just the OT is being seeded so I'm sure the person who has it just has that set. Plus, for fanboys, no one really cares about the PT so, given the choice, they're going to take that set from their "source."

Just saw Adywan's screenshot comparison of old Wicket and new Wicket. Startling to say the least.

Regarding your questions; 1. Industrial Light and Magic did go in and make many technical improvements, most notably color matching on select lightsabers shots. 2. The list of extras for discs 7 & 8 are currently available online! We released all of that information on May 4th. 3. The Blu-rays will be the special editions of the movies.

Thanks again and May the Force be with you!

Best,
Your friends at Lucasfilm

Looks like I'll have to leave this thread earlier than I expected, or at least try to. Regardless, I will look upon the release only when I have it myself.

We will see, but if they didn't fix the lightsaber shots Kenny needs to apologize, as of right now it looks like he made that Email up.

Yeah that would be the simplest way of telling whether it is indeed the true blu-ray source. Surprised nobody went there first.
