Ben's Howl

Enjoy!
I'm not sure which of the two is worse. The no is just pointless. I don't entirely mind the first "no" since it's not heald out and sounds deeper and more in tune with how Vader would talk. The second "No" is just too reminiscent of the way he says it in ROTS, which was horrible.

As for Ben's howl, I actually cracked up. I'm not kidding. I laughed out loud when I heard it. It's just laughably terrible.

Seriously, Lucas puts the effort into making these pointless changes, but he doesn't complete redo the lightsaber effects in all of the OT movies? It's not like that's something hard or overly expensive to fix. Fan videos do it all the time with relative ease. And there aren't nearly as many light saber shots in the OT as in the PT, and they had no problem with it there.

I think Lucas has been drinking Drain-O.

Do a little research before you spew at people who don't want classic movies tampered with.
Hyperbole much? And how many times has it been noted that that was in regard to people other than those who created the films doing that?

The only person mentioning "GL raped my childhood" is you. Why all the anger directed at people who are noticing the various changes and color problems? The only stereotype about SW fans I see is those who will gladly accept anything, no matter how faulty, GL puts out. The rest of us are rational about this and don't feel obligated to spend money on something we don't feel has sufficient quality or treatment.[/QUOTE]

Are you reading the same thread as I am? People aren't noticing for the MOST part...they are outraged angry cancelling pre-orders...there is legitimate anger about the changes, not people just "Noticing"

These films need to be taken away from Lucas!

Though what that article neglects to mention is that the rumor, as far as I know, is based entirely on pirated copies, not "review discs"

Yes, some of the changes, if real, are fn silly, but so are the reactions. If people hate just about EVERYTHING that Lucasfilm is doing, whether in the originals, the special editions or changed for the BDs, then what are they doing here in the first place? I don't post on threads for movies that I have no interest in or think are bad movies. Having said that, I haven't ordered yet. I'm waiting for the first credible reviews to see what these BDs are really about. But anyone who decides to cancel their order because they just can't accept either the quality, the supposed lack of fixes or the changes, but STILL posts here is beyond all hope, IMO. In the end, they're no better than a troll.

You can't take every single frame and every single tiny bit of audio out of context and expect it to work. A movie is much more than the sum of its parts. If I dissect enough, I can make any movie ever made look bad, whether it's Birth of a Nation, Modern Times, Gone With The Wind, Casablanca, An American In Paris, Bridge on the River Kwai, Ben-Hur, Lawrence of Arabia, Midnight Cowboy, The Godfather, Amadeus, The Lord of the Rings, Slumdog Millionaire, etc. These were all Academy Award Best Picture winners and they ALL have their faults. But they were all great pictures. (And I do expect someone to post that "no, those movies were all crap".)

All this discussion about laser colors really boggles my mind. Who gives a fk? Is that what people were really paying attention to when they first saw this movie? The color of the beams emanating from the weapons? That's funny because I was paying attention to the story and the relationships between the characters. IMO, people who pay attention to this crap are making the same mistake Lucas made: he thought that by enhancing the special effects and adding more buildings, people, creatures, fighters, etc., that he was making the movie better. He didn't realize that once you achieve a certain level of believability and craftsmanship, adding more on didn't matter. The people who are critical don't realize that likewise, the color of the lasers is meaningless (all IMO, of course).

Once again, Lucas fixes stupid crap like this, but we apparently still get a mostly white light saber on the Millennium Falcon, and inconsistent light saber shots in TESB.

Don't get me wrong, this particular change doesn't really "bother" me, per say, but it just hardly seems to be worth while to even bother with compared to some other things.

That change is pretty noticeable. Adywan pointed it out because he's watched the new rip. I think most of us would notice it, too.

Yeah, but there was a whole part of his speech about movies being preserved for public interest, etc. He clearly isn't practicing what he preached to congress.

I use to agree with that statement but now I think even he's taking things too far. He's starting to replace things that don't need to be replaced.

I'd buy a BD version of the Original Trilogy with the color fixed and Han shooting first.

At this point, having just seen the R2 change and barely recovering from the alleged Vader dialogue, this is what I now want. Some sort of differentiation between the 1997 Special Edition and whatever the hell these 2011 bluray editions are. I want them called something else and I want to be able to choose between the cuts.

What I've seen of the Yoda CG effort in Menace I'm not fussed on either. Anakin's cheeky "what has that got to do with anything" was followed by a great moment with puppet yoda's ears pinning back. Now completely gone with the CG iteration, the reaction isn't the same. I'm not liking any of this at all.

I got used to the 97 Special Editions. I know the prequels backwards. Just leave them alone FFS!!!

How is hiding R2 behind more rock that hasn't been there for 34 years an improvement? It'd be like Spielberg hiding E.T a little more in Eliot's closet amongst the cuddly toys, because Dee Wallace surely should have seen him!!

I used to be a Lucas apologist just like you. At some point, however, it becomes impossible to defend him in all areas. There's NO excuse for these films not to be given proper restorations when there's been 7 years since the last video release to work on them. If Lucas wants to make changes to the films themselves, that's fine. While I might not agree with the alterations(the new Vader NO and NOOOO are ridiculous) I will at least concede that it's his right to do so. What I can't forgive is the laziness when it comes to the picture quality. When you have people with home PCs doing proper color correction for all 3 films it's inexcusable that a multi-billion company can't do at least equal work. As I said before, the best guy in the film restoration business, Robert A. Harris, wanted the chance to work on these films, but I'm sure Lucas didn't want someone with that much talent showing him up so he decided to let his amateur team do the work and the results speak for themselves. Anyone who thinks blue snow on Hoth, a Yoda that glows greener than Kryptonite and lightsabers that change colors in every shot are acceptable clearly has low standards.
