With the release of this Blu Ray set, I just wanted to complete my Star Wars home video collection. You can't complete it without some form of the theatrical cuts of the Original Trilogy.

-'06 Limited Edition with the Special Editions ('04) and the theatrical cuts.
-'11 Blu Ray Edition.
-'01, '02, and '05 Prequel DVD releases.

I'm done with Star Wars on home video. Three different cuts for the Original Trilogy should be good for the rest of my days...no?
What about the 2015 version with more improvements!

'm sure most of the biggest monsters of history were unstable in their youth.
Anakin's character was pretty much what I'd expect for a future Vader. I just wish he was written better. Of course, that's a debate for another thread.

I'd rather the originals came too just to shut them up =P

It's not really the change that bothers me - it's the fact that Lucas is basically trying to erase the originals from history. That's what bugs me. If both were available, Lucas could tinker all he wanted without nary a complaint from me.

You know I never thought Kevin Smith was that great of a director. He lived off his own hype more than the quality of his work. I mean I do like a couple of his films. But their ultimately fanboy strokes with the incessant nerdyness.

Unless I missed a memo were George Lucas somehow invented time travel and replaced the original cuts and altered reality, it's impossible for him to erase the originals from history. Cause I still remember seeing those original versions in the theater many many moons ago.

I'm not talking about memories Beast; I'm talking about a $*#@ing physical copy

Haha I mean, I'm only 20 and I still remember the originals as well as anybody else does, but that doesn't mean Lucas isn't trying to make sure my future kids don't get to see them. I'd like them to see both, just as I'd like to continue seeing both on Blu-ray. In HD.

Like I've said before, I'll take what I can get, but I'd LOVE an Alien Anthology/Blade Runner type of set here.

I understand completely ppl want to enjoy the originals in the highest defintion i get it. To defend lucas though, he never said he wont ever release them. Actually how money hungry he is, he would be stupid not to. He has to wait though, once everyone says " Screw it! Im just gonna buy this set, better then not having it at all" Then he will force us to double dip (again) and to be honest ill end up buying it. Its fans like that, that make him do the things he does. Same with 3D release coming soon, i bet he makes a ton of money then releases them again in 3D Blu-ray, then releases the originals in 3D Blu ray. Its a never ending cycle.

I can't see him releasing the originals in 3D, but it's his typical marketing strategy.

I didn't buy the theatricals on DVD though - didn't feel like spending more money on the series and the same thing will probably happen to me here. I want them both in one place on the same day and date release.

Also for those who say Lucas just does it for money and doesnt care about the fans. Honestly if i was an artist and i painted a picture, someone says wow that great! If you paint more of those ill give you a million dollar for each one. Over time i make millions, then i start changing things, the buyer says "wait, no that stupid dont do it" But the millions of dollars keep pouring in. Why the F would i stop? Please tell me that? hahaha i wouldnt damn the only way he will ever stop and i dont blame him is if one year he releases the movies either in Theaters, blu ray etc.. and he actually loses money, then he will think of stopping until then expect more changes to come, starting with the 3D.

You forget, he did release the theatrical editions as bonus discs included in individual re-releases of the DVDs of 04. They were non-anamorphic ports from LD masters with no work done to them. Except for one. Ep IV's crawl was digitally redone without the "Episode IV: A New Hope" added. It was not there in the theatrical versions.

So if he decides to release the theatrical versions yet again, will we be getting the same versions, you think?

George Lucas was one of the most outstanding film makers this country has ever produced. He was a brilliant and outstanding in every way and he was a good man too. Humanitarian man, man of wit, of humor. He joined the Entertainment Business. After that his ideas, methods have become unsound... Unsound...

...things get confused out there, power, ideals, the old morality.... Out there with these fanboys it must be a temptation to be god. Because there's a conflict in every human heart between the rational and the irrational, between good and evil. The good does not always triumph. Sometimes the dark side overcomes what Lincoln called the better angels of our nature. Every man has got a breaking point. You and I have. George Lucas has reached his. And very obviously, he has gone insane.

That "Money Hungry" nonsense that people keep spewing is laughable.

If he was so "Money Hungry", he would have released not only the OT in something other than LD encodes on DVD. But also would have released the retired '97 Special Edition Cuts as well. And it's not like he has to make these changes he does to get people to buy something. So that makes no sense either. I honestly think he views Star Wars much like oral tradition storytelling where the story changes a lil as it gets passed down from generation to generation.

Just because there's a lot of Star Wars merchandise out there doesn't mean he's "Money Hungry". The license for products is available from Lucasfilm, he's not making the stuff. It's the fanbase that is desiring this stuff. And it's not like Lucas is the one churning this stuff out. Other than having Veto power over any merchandise a company makes, it's up to the individuals that license Star Wars to decide what they want to release.

I think we'd be getting the same versions if he put them out on Blu. Except they'd be Amorphic, obviously. And in HD.

EDIT: I don't think he does all this for the money.
I just think it's a smart way for a business man to do it. Not the way I would do it if I was in his line of work, but it's very smart.

We can only hope that they are at least anamorphic, but they were not in the last release. And if they are struck from the LD masters again, they were not in HD to begin with. And according to LFL, they are the best versions available.
