undecided with the complete saga preorder. leaning towards just getting the original trilogy, and just get revenge of the sith when it comes out by it self.

You're not alone! I've never really cared for the prequel, the original trilogy is such a classic. Prequel trilogy is too childish for my taste. But then again my taste might change and it would be nice to own all. Oh well..

A majority of statements from ex-Lucas-collaborators think what he's doing is just nonsense. Righteous little article there! It's refreshing to hear somebody in the business speak so candidly about Lucas's decent into madness.

Also fantastic to hear that Speilberg knew enough to leave E.T. alone. Thank God.

The disc art isn't THAT important to me, and I don't care for the cover of the box regardless of whether I get it from the US or Europe... and I'm probably just going to go with custom labels in regular Blu-Ray cases anyway. It's just that from a functional standpoint, I do prefer the set that you got over the US one if I inteded to keep the discs in the original packaging. I prefer to have the discs in regular hubs than in those sliding cardboard trays or whatever.
I'm not sure which country that release is destined for I think German, France and Italy which all have Amazon sites will all have certificates, I know we've seen foreign language versions. I'm definitely not an expert on such things but I bought The Matrix the other day with an Israeli bar-code on from Amazon UK and that didn't have any ratings on it all. It's possible that's where sets like this are destined. But I'm not 100% but I've always thought most countries have their own language sets and ratings but these are possible designed for English speaking consumers abroad. It looks great though and a high quality set. But I'd wait and see if these start popping up on Ebay or have rating labels applied.

So let me get this straight: one of the people responsible for the special FX in the original trilogy is upset that his work is slowly being replaced with CGI.

Why would that surprise you? Why would that surprise anyone at all?

Depends on your point of view. It looks to me like some bitter ex-employee was lashing out at his former boss. A backroom special effects dweeb who rants on the works of renowned filmmakers like George Lucas, James Cameron, and Robert Zemeckis.

You'll forgive me if I take his opinion with a grain of salt. When someone like Spielberg criticizes GL, I tend to listen. When some random dweeb does it, I pay less attention.

Do you have the discs or just sample box art? We don't care how the box looks (no offense) can you pop a movie in and tell us if the problems with the light sabers still exist????

Well, maybe they'd be more fun for more people if he would fix the color timing and stop making changes that infuriate many people.

Because he's absolutely right?

I missed the controversy the last couple of days, and tried to read all 160 pages these past few hours, but ultimately abandoned that.

I will not be buying these latest versions of whatever George Lucas has come up with. I believe none of the special effects of the original are unwatchable, and look fine for their age. I also think that retroactively fitting movies that were made thirty years ago with movies made just a couple of years ago, is the completely wrong thing to do.
I understand that George Lucas may have been unhappy with the making of Star Wars, and that he might have wanted to change a few things, but I don't believe for a second that he couldn't do most of the changes made in any of the Special Editions that are currently out. He's just gone too far, and soon the movies will be unrecognizable. Apologists might argue that these changes are 'just a few additional tweaks', and that 'they really do not matter or influence the story'. Rubbish. If you make an awful amount of little tweaks, you're still altering a lot of the movies.
And Lucas apparently didn't see the need in creating a new master. Even Lowry basically admitted that it was a rush job, why don't do it over, and more importantly, the right way? There's no excuse for this, considering that Lucas decides when the Blu-rays will be released. Probably all the funds needed to go to the conversion of his movies into 3D. I ordered the Limited Editions with the originals, and have some unmentionables on my hard drive, and I will only buy the Original Trilogy on Blu-ray. It would be a very sad state of affairs if that never happens, but so be it.

Random? So the Academy just picked his name out of a hat? All six times?

And no, I'm not suggesting six Oscar nominations and two wins makes him an unassailable authority on filmmaking.

I should think they do make dismissing him as a 'backroom dweeb' more than a little silly though.

Come on, guys. Let's stay on topic with the blu-ray. Reading this thread the past few days has aged me by 10 years!

We all forget there is another thread dedicated to discussing the revisions and all things related: https://forum.blu-ray.com/movies/172...ensers-63.html. Let's argue in there without derailing the blu-ray discussion.
