Thought you might all enjoy it, good analogy.
The analogy isn't really all that good. It's so flawed it's idiotic. Since Lucas isn't doing anything to your property.

Those ROTJ shots look naturally soft, like something that occurred during filming with the lenses they were using. It doesn't look like DNR. It just looks very soft...almost like the original BD of Predator. Both films take place in a jungle. Perhaps they both used a similar film stock.

Aside from that one Qui-Gon shot, the rest of the PT shots look fantastic!

Looks like a lot of DNR on the Qui-gon shot. Digital Yoda looks a lot better than the puppet to me.

what i find most funny about this is that if Dr. Svet A. had reviewed JEDI he would have given the PQ a very high rating despite the obvious (as shown on these pictures)

Something is fishy with these screens. Plenty of grain is intact, so there isn't a fault with the transfer.

It looks like all of those shots were taken while the actors were moving, so the lack of sharpness can be attributed to motion blur or the scene being out of focus.

Seems like someone is intentionally trying to deceive us with these shots. Why not take pics throughout ROTJ, instead of just the Endor scenes?

I'm thinking this as well. Every one of those looks to be a scene that is in motion.

Adywan already pointed out that there are some minutes in ROTJ where the picture quality is not as good as in the rest of the movie. It starts with the flight to Endor and ends with the beginning of the speeder bike chase.

The same problem also exists on the DVD and the HDTV broadcast.

Yeah, it's definitely something that occurred during the original filming. It's in the negative.

You all do know that the inserted Jabba scene in ANH was originally a deleted scene with a stand-in of a human Jabba before Jabba was established as a slug Hutt in ROTJ, don't ya? It's not like this scene was a totally made up scene for the '97 SEs.

It was pointed out a couple days ago(Adywan I believe) that only a few scenes in RotJ were like this.

- EDIT -

Yes I always found the phantom menace to be a tad on the soft side in terms of it's visuals, and to be fair a fair bit of Dnr is applied post production,so it's not always the blu-ray transfers fault.

Silly analogy.

Some (rather more impressive) TPM captures from the actual disc:

Yeah, something is definately on going here. Those don't look much better than up-converted DVD shots. If it's film stock, motion blur or whatever, I can't believe in any case the Lowry Digital restoration didn't clear these up any better.

Indeed. It's fine to not like the changes. To not like the Prequels. But the hyperbole from both sides would shock even Stan Lee.

Star Wars is such a unique beast that it's almost it's own genre. And not everyone is going to be happy with every piece of the puzzle. That's life.

It's the perfect analogy for how a fan feels, not for the situation in general. But if you want to amend it, it's as though Lucas keyed his own Ferrari. (Or if you prefer, added a neon purple racing stripe because he thought it would look better.) A beautiful thing was irrevocably marred.

At least it's different than the analogy we had a few months back comparing the movies to girls.

If I remember I said that the original theatrical version was a game old girl (at 34 no less), sure she has a wonky leg, she's a bit weathered from her days in the sun and her eyesight has got a bit blurry but compared to her twin sister (who's had numerous face lifts, a chemical peel, laser eye surgery, Botox up the yazoo, a chin implant and breast augmentation) she's a natural beauty.

The only problem is there's a mean old man who's locked her up in his mansion while her sister gets to go out and play....
